Tir Na Nog Irish Bar & Grill - Times Square Ratings and Reviews
I called to make a reservation over a week ago to watch the Patriots game and celebrate my anniversary. They guaranteed that I would be at a high top and be able to see the game. We get there and we are seated in a corner, not able to see any TVs! They told us they had no other tables. When I mentioned I had spoken to a manager on Wednesday the hostess worked with us. (Again, Helen claimed that I said this was negative, when I didn't) Got an okay table where people used us as the main walk way, better than not seeing anything at all! Tamara (our server) was amazing! Although very busy - the bar backed up, host sitting her horribly, etc. She was calm and collected. I felt for her being in these shoes before. The food was mediocre at best. 7 dollars for a side of fries that is about the size of a small at McDonald's. My drink came half full. (Again not her fault) She said the bar was mad I ordered a margarita. If you struggle to make a margarita during a dinner rush, you shouldn't bartend. Tamara took off a bucket of beers and a margarita for us- so again I felt for her. She even made us a reservation for next game at any table we wanted. The only reon I'd be back would be to support her!
UPDATE: The manager Helen called me to CANCEL my reservation next week for the game. (She claims that it is because I wrote a harsh review, sorry it was all honest) On top of that, she told me I could have my 50 dollar tip back that I left the server on a 40 dollar bill. WOW. If this was ever my manager, I would be embarrassed to work for her! So sorry Tamara! Go somewhere that appreciates you! The owners should really be embarrassed and think about who is running their restaurant they are lucky they are in Times Square --- an overflow spot for other places when they are packed -- or just a bar with an Irish name that sounds comfortable-- but isn't.
Warm and comfortable place with solid menu. Wonderful selection of beer and ciders.
The cod, in particular, was outstanding. Our server, a pretty lady from Limerick, was patient , professional and friendly. We enjoyed our meal on New Year's Eve. Great location a few blocks from Times Square and the Port Authority.
Food was lovely and arrived quickly. Unfortunately waitress wasn't too friendly - overheard her complaining to other staff members that she didn't want to be there and was abrupt with customers. Forgot a few items even though the place was quiet but the busser brought it over. (He was very nice.) Otherwise it's a lovely bar/restaurant.
Stopped in at a friend's recommendation and we were glad we did. The restaurant is charming and was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The brunch menu had both brunch and lunch options and the bloody marys were excellent. We all loved our food as well. Our server Tricia was great, friendly and fun to talk to. Definitely going back!
It was alright. We went for happy hour but the waitress told us there was none and as we were leaving later that evening....it was written on the board. That was confusing. They also no longer offered pasta options. The website is outdated since the menu (bar and food) were not the same.
Went to NYC for a night with out of towners.. tried going to 3 other places that were all completely packed out at 6pm. Looked here to make a reservation for party of 7 at that time and was surprised they had availability.
Place was fairly deserted.....after the meal and the service I can see why. I won’t be going there EVER again. Hope this helps at least 1 person
I took my 5 grown children (37-23) and my 16 year old grandson for our holiday dinner. They had never been there before. It was a very short walk from Port Authority & they loved it.
We had a great time and it will be our new tradition!
Food was amazing, service was wonderful, ambiance was perfect!
My kids were snap chatting, showing how cool the restraunt was & saying, “look what my mom did for us!” I loved how it felt to share with them a cool spot in the city they didn’t know about and give them a new place to make memories.
Ate here on numerous occasions - and, always, gravitate towards the fish and chips. Delicious everytime! Burgers are also really good. Great place for meeting up with friends and having a beer or two at the bar. Friendly staff throughout. Some nights it gets really busy so it would be a good idea to make a reservation for your table....
What a great place! The bar is very big - and energetic. But if you want to dine with friends, and actually hear what each other has to say, you are in luck here. The tables are away from the bar and behind a low wall. You can see the bar scene but you're not actually in it. And the food was great. It was PERFECT,
We decided to go there for a date night but also for the patriots vs Atlanta falcons Superbowl rematch. This was one of the only real patriot bars in NYC. That said, it didn't disappoint. From the staff to the awesomeness of the venue to the food it was all in all an incredible night and I'd definitely highly recommend this place. Good job!
Given table right at entrance area even though had reservation. Saw waitress only to take drink and food order, otherwise was gone. Food delivered by food runners. We chose the price fix, had the bangers and mash (okay) and wife had the Shepherds Pie (okay) dessert was blah. Much better restaurants in the area.
This place was as advertised in its blurb on Open Table. The food was well prepared and the menu includes healthful items such as beets. The steak and fries were served at the right time and with the fries hot enough so that they remained warm while I was eating. The waitress remained aware of me and provided good service. The interior architecture caught my attention for being just right. The location is good, being near the Port Authority and the Broadway district. I'd definitely recommend this.
I've enjoyed brunch here before so I was disappointed when I took out of town friends. The food was fine. Our waiter was friendly but inept. Despite having gluten-free options on the menu, we were informed there were none available.
About 50 minutes into our meal, the volume on the TVs was cranked up to a deafening level for the game beginning at 1:00 pm. When several patrons complained, staff said: "Well, this is a sports bar!" I've been in other sports bars where you could watch the game and still have a conversation. I won't be coming back.
We arrived for a 5:15pm reservation. Empty restaurant, still stood at the hostess station for 5 minutes before anyone noticed us waiting. When it was time to order drinks, I asked if they and a full bar and the waitress said, "yes, but only for like vodka and cranberry, or rum and coke, we don't really do drinks." OK... I could see the full bar with many alcohol bottles, but if the waitress is saying no... well... Dinner was meh. Husband's fish and chips were good, but my chicken pot pie was disappointing, at best. Chicken, potatoes, and carrots were all evenly cut into small cubes.. just like buying frozen carrots. gravy was bland and flavorless. I suspect the whole thing was frozen, poured into a casserole and a crust slapped onto it. I didn't eat more than 5 bites... yet the waitress never asked how the food was, the buss person never asked if it was OK or did I want a box. All in all, although I really was hoping this'd be a great meal, it wasn't.. and I can't recommend it for dinner, and won't go back.
Their website had a nice dinner menu, in which my guest and I were interested in purchasing from. We had already decided what we were going to eat, until we arrived and was notified their dinner menu was no longer an option. They only had bar food left, which was not much to choose from. The food was greasy, and tasteless. The waitress was nice, and apologetic, which was nice. But, we arrived, with an appointment set in advance, in order to try the dinner menu. They should try advertising when their dinner menu concludes, and when the bar food menu begins. This would weed out anyone who is in the mood to actually eat food. And not just fries.
We went with the traditional fare at an Irish pub. I had the fish and chips. The fish was a bit soggy. The chips were okay. Overall, well below the quality of fish and chips in any part of the British Empire. My wife had the shepherd's pie. Again, the meal was okay, but lacking in the flavor of lamb and the texture of the mashed potatoes was grainy. The food was not terrible, but okay. The service was great, the crowd was small but the music was way too loud...especially with so few people present.
This is a regular 'go to' for us when a bunch of friends meet up in the City. They just recently extended their menu (dishes like duck are new). Highly recommend the fish and chips which comes with fries and mushy peas. Very good. Great selection of wines and beers.
