The outside is very deceiving but once you walk in, what a pleasant surprise! I highly recommend this place. I had the best salad while the people next to me looked like they were tremendously enjoying their awesome comfort food. Service was superb as well. I will definitely return to this restaurant.
Service was great. We had Fish/Chips and Shepherd's pie, both delicious. Very convenient to Madison Square Garden. Nice choice of beer. A little too loud to have normal dinner conversation if you're seated on the first floor.
Consistently good food and service in a part of town where that is much needed.
The website gives the impression that it’s a cozy, authentic Irish pub. It’s not. It’s a super loud sports bar.
Had great food and drink, thanks to Kevin Walsh's recommendations; met wonderful people next to us and engaged in tremendous conversation.
Food was very good for everyone in our party of 8. Can not beat this location’s proximity to Madison Square Garden....
the Pretzel appetizer was really good and we all had a burger of sorts, which were all done as we asked and quite delicious, though the bun could have a little more sturdiness or toasting to it. Did not know there was an upstairs, which may have a lower sound level than bar area.
Met friends and family at Tir Na Nog before a concert at MSG. Very convenient location. Two of our party arrived a few minutes before our reservation time and were seated and given menus. When the rest of us arrived, it took some time for our server to provide menus and she seemed a bit put out that we had not decided on what to order...ummm, six of us were sharing two menus. The food selection was not extensive, but many of the items were enticing. I ordered the wild mushroom flat bread which was the perfect size and absolutely delicious. Others in my party ordered the fish tacos and enjoyed them although the surly server did state that the tortillas were corn when in fact they were flour (and therefore not gluten-free.) The Korean BBQ Lettuce wraps were also a big hit and just the right amount of food when paired with the Caesar salad. The turkey burger was juicy and well prepared. The noise level was very high and it was difficult to converse with anyone not directly next to you...which was still not easy. The server we had was crabby and not very attentive. I recognize it was busy, but maybe one stop by the table to see how we were doing would have been nice. We had to "snag" someone walking by to get more water since our server seemed oblivious to us as she rushed by several times without even looking our way.
Overall, the reservation held true and we were not rushed, food was delicious and other than the loudness, the decor and ambiance was nice. The cost was fair, although, like most places in NYC it would be nice if drink prices did not rival entree prices! I would go back and would recommend it to others.
Food was very good. We shared apps and loved all four different dinners. The waitress was not interested in being there at all and was a non entity. The restaurant was basically empty so it wasn’t that she was overworked. In spite of her the food was very good
Saturday brunch with an included Mimosa was a nice treat
Tir has become a happy hour/after work gathering place. As such iris noisy crowded and rowdy. Still the food is good and the waitstaff are first rate.
We went here for dinner before a Rangers game at MSG (this restaurant is across the street from MSG/Penn Station, which makes it very convenient).
I had the bronzino and my lady had the fish and chips. Both were delicious. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Highly recommend.
Perfect spot for a pre-game or pre-event meal or drinks before an event at Madison Square Garden. It is right across the street from MSG and large parking garage is nearby. Despite it being a busy night the host greeted us warmly upon our arrival and quickly took us to our table. Great comfort food - we had the meatball appetizer and the hummus along with the fish and chips and burgers. Moscow mules served in copper mugs and a nice beer menu as well.
Hard to find a good place near Penn but this one is consistently good.
It was a great place to watch a game and get a great meal. I highly recommend it.
Great spot for watching football on Sundays! They don't rush you out to change over tables. Stay and enjoy all afternoon....
We were looking for a spot near Penn Station/ Chelsea. Found Tir na nOg and read quite a number of positive reviews.
I realized it was a popular watering hole for people attending events at MSQ. Knowing that there were no events scheduled for that Friday, we made a reservation.
We were greeted promptly by a hostess/server. Right away she recognized that we would not be happy on the lower bar level , and brought us upstairs, where the joyful noise was a bit attenuated. This still does change the fact that this a bar with a boisterous clientele.
I must comment on the attentive service of the staff. This high level of attention to customers , coupled with a simple but varied menu, made for a good experience at Tir na nOg.
Great place right next to MSG. Convenient, good food, good drinks. Comfortable with lively bar and sports TV.
Went before a concert at the Garden. Apps and drinks were great. My husband and I split the salmon entree. The place was very lively and loud, but the atmosphere was a lot of fun. The service was good too. Would recommend for a pre game or concert meal.
Net etablissement recht tegenover Madisons Square Garden gelegen.
Meerdere tafels, discreet of hoogzitters: voor elk wat wils op de kaart. Probeer zeker een van de burgers of de spaghetti'
Place has been remodeled and the ambiance remains. Lively spot with good comfort food and lots of Rangers love!
The Staff was friendly and polite. The food was well prepared and delicious. Our waitress was excellent. I will recommend "The Land of The Young" to everyone I know.
Average pub grub but good beer choices and very convenient to Penn Station with lots of seating available.
Fish and chips and the Salmon were great.
We asked for the dessert menu to two people and never got it.
We take an annual overnight trip into the city at Christmas time with our two kids and were looking for a cozy festive place to eat. Tir ma nOg was it! They had great tasting food selection for kids and adults. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for. It was nicely decorated for the holiday and the inside was unique with many quant cozy places to gather. Food was flavorful and their was no line which may have deferred some but glad we took the chance.
So glad we found this great Irish pub located next to Penn Station.
We loved the second floor table by the window we had for our group of 5. The setting was inviting and charming and the noise level on the second floor was not loud. Each of us enjoyed our food. The service was friendly and prompt and the location was perfect with only a moment's walk to the play.
Phenomenal service thanks to Geraldine!
Excellent choices and conveniently located to MSG.
Dinner before the Andrea Bocelli RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from Madison Square Garden! So convenient! Made reservations through Open Table for 4:45pm and got seated right away. Menu had good selections (get the pork chop), wait staff was MORE than attentive, and we got out in a timely fashion. Our conversations were NOT rushed either! Enjoyed the visit and will return and recommend.
Somewhat disappointed that with a reservation got seat in front of the door area which seemed more like a place for the bar crowd for a quick bit. The service too was not good. Once the food was delivered it was hard to get the attention of the waitress. Also the noise level, though prepared for it because of others review was still pretty shockingly high. Not sure if I would recommend this place other than for a preshow quick bite. Cannot have a conversation, had a sore throat when dinner was over.
Met old friends quite by accident( we were seated next to each other). We had fun catching up with each other after 20 years. We were both attending a concert at the Garden. Restaurant is so convenient.
Other than some seating problem, the experience was terrific. Great food, terrific service.
Went to a Ranger Game and we stopped here to grab a bite. Not a large menu,it’s limited. There are burgers available. Food was fresh and hot. Good presentation. Pricing was fair. Avg cost was $26.
Took the family here after a company children's holiday party for the 2nd year in a row. The noise level is high but the service and food made up for that. They have a kids menu but our 10 yr old ordered a steak from the regular menu and said it was the best she had ever eaten so that made the entire night worth it. There are very few kid friendly places in the area so this is a great find since it's a pub and restaurant. We will make this an annual tradition here and look forward to next year.
Perfect place for a pre-MSG event. Across the street from the Garden.
The Food is excellent but if dining the night of a event at MSG it will be very busy and LOUD !!! The Short Ribs, Pasta with Cream sauce and Pork Chops are outstanding. In addition the Roasted Chicken is very good as well !
Was a bit of a wait between drinks, ordering food and getting the food
Maker sure to make reservations and be prepared to 'yell' to your partner or friends the night of a event at MSG - still worth it for the food, bar and price !
Nice place, good service, good food. I recommend for a quick meeting or meet-and-greet. I had the potato-leek soup and it was excellent.
I have eaten (both lunch and dinner ) at Tir na nOg numerous times (both locations). The food is excellent and reasonably priced. Service is very good. The past 2 times I've had dinner at the MSG location, though, the volume of the music playing is so loud you have to scream at your dining companions despite sitting quite close to one another. It's ridiculous, not to mention unpleasant. I can only assume that management wants to emphasize a club-like atmosphere instead of a grown up establishment for dinner/drinks/conversation. While I still recommend it for lunch, I won't be going for dinner again nor can I recommend it for dinner unless screaming to converse with your companions is what you're looking for in an experience there. We would have stayed longer last Saturday evening but we all had pounding headaches and were just tired of screaming to be heard a few inches away. Very disappointing.
Our reservation was available as soon as we arrived. We had burgers and appetizers which were above average. The service was a little bit slow in the beginning but we were not in a hurry so it was not a problem for us. We had fun and would recommend the place to others.
However, if you are in a hurry you may want to indicate that to the waitstaff up front.
