The service was good, but they did make some mistakes on our order and delivering all 4 appetizers in a timely manner.
No dedicated server. Food was great but when they ran low on dessert we were served hall portions for regular pricing. My chocolate torte was the size of a small brownie and my spouse’s cheesecake was a half round on its side instead of the full round version we saw being served to others before us.
It was just OK. Maybe I'll try it again to see if it improves but not sure.
We were seated at 6:15, group of 5 people, only one other table in our section. Waitstaff was attentive until food and drink orders were placed.
First an incorrect appetizer came out. They left if anyway and said to just enjoy it while they got a replacement. That was nice. Around this time I ordered a second drink. By the time all apps were done I asked about my beer and they said they would check on it. After this point I don’t think anyone was asked about drinks again for the rest of the night. After we had all finished our main course, I asked again about my second beer, and it was finally brought out. They did say it would be on the house.
At this point we had been there for about an hour or so. We had ordered dessert with our original order. We waited another 45-60 minutes without our table being visited at all. Waitstaff walked by and it felt like we were specifically ignored. Other tables that arrived after us had finished, left, and been reseated at this point. I finally had to get up and go ask about dessert. The owner brought it out and apologized.
We ate dessert in about 15 minutes. Out plates were cleared. Again, no asked about drinks, coffee, are we all set, nothing. We wait 45 more minutes until the check comes. The waitress tells us to take our time. We’ve been there 3 hours at this point. While not charged for the late beer, we were charged for the errant appetizer.
At this point I spoke to the owner again. He was nice enough. He offered another round on the house (the first time anyone was offered a drink in 2.5 hours), but after being there for 3 hours we were ready to leave. After we asked, he did take $25 off of our $220 bill.
I don’t know if we did something or what, because 6 or 8 other tables in our section were filled, left, reseated, and some of those folks had left before we even got our bill.
The food was not bad. Waitstaff was polite but apathetic. Would not recommend.
Our meals were outstanding and our server was wonderful. However, two things made the experience less than pleasant. First, the restaurant had a total of 16 guests all jammed into one area while the rest of the spacious restaurant sat empty. A little space between guests would have been ideal. Second, our sever was great but clearly the restaurant is understaffed.
Came to Maine for a long weekend and heard from a local that Tiqa wouldn’t disappoint. Great food, relaxed atmosphere, great service!!
Luckily we could change our table from one by service area. We were celebrating two birthdays and an anniversary but offered nothing--not even a candle. There were two large groups celebrating so we were ignored. Food good but honestly doubt we will return. Not a good vibe at all.
Really like this restaurant. Healthy fresh food. Pleasant service.
I’m always hesitant about pricy restaurants because sometimes, the food quality does not match up with what they’re charging. With Tiqa, you don’t have to worry about that. For what you pay, the quantity AND quality is well worth it.
My wife and I both have gluten allergies and the employees were extremely knowledgeable about what we could and couldn’t have, which was helpful.
Overall, an amazing dining experience with a great variety of choices.
Restaurant website and note on door said it would open at 4 pm. Didn't open until 5 pm. Tiqa left me a message confirming that we were "ok" with sitting at the Chef's Counter still as they were going to be "completely booked". I never knew we were going to be at the Chef's Counter. Husband ordered a margarita that was so awful he couldn't drink. He ordered the calamari appetizer (too chewy to enjoy) and the special Bouillabaisse of the night which was $36 and had a lobster tail, two mussels and a few clams which lacked flavor and depth. I enjoyed my Brussel sprout appetizer and falafel. I also ordered the mahshi squash which was good but portion was quite small. Four small, think maki roll size, squash stuffed with rice, etc.; not worth $18. When we left, the restaurant wasn't even half full?? Overall, we were extremely disappointed and would not go back nor would we recommend.
The food is always amazing and fresh. There are many, many vegetarian and vegan options which is absolutely fabulous! Service is well-paced and pleasant. It continues to be a Portland favorite for us!
Went for prixe fixe menu on Valentine's Day. Sat in the bar area. Cozy, good cocktails, food was just right for portion sizes. Restaurant seemed busy but not overwhelmed. Everyone enjoyed their meal very much. Easy to converse. Definitely will come again.
We had a wonderful Valentin's dinner at TIQA! The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. All aspects of the evening were lovely.
Our appetizers--a delicious soup for my wife and a baba ghounish for me--were an excellent start.
We each had kebobs. They were generous and well prepared. I would have preferred couscous over rice, which was a bit salty, but that is my only "complaint." We had coffee and shared baklava, which capped off a very nice meal. I love Tiqa for lunch, but I would come back for dinner.
The Mezze is great, i should have stopped there and called it a night. Our mains were just okay. Nothing exciting. I had the calamari and cauliflower; the calamari tasted like it was frozen, not fresh and was lacking originality. It was plain with a spicy aoli on the side. Cauliflower felt undercooked and flavors were more in line with a French onion dip than Mediterranean spice blend. My husband had the chicken kabobs which were flavorful but the spiced rice was wet, salty and tasteless. Nothing to write home about.
Our dinner at Tiqa was outstanding. The food, service and atmosphere were wonderful. It was very quiet, but we dined early as we had theater tickets. We would highly recommend this restaurant and will certainly return.
TIQA is a go-to for my wife and me. The room is lovely - contemporary without being garish, with a particularly cozy bar area. Service is always good/great. The food is emphatically mediterranean. The restaurant has recently upgraded their winelist to offer a pretty remarkable variety both reds and whites. If you have not tried IXSIR Altitudes red blend, I recommend that you do so. A lovely, balanced, medium-bodied Lebanese wine that works with everything they serve. I'd rate it a solid five if they could just tweak some of their dishes a bit. The calamari is always good, but the sort of plain breaded stuff you can get anywhere. It's always decently-cooked but not always perfectly-cooked (melt-in-the-mouth tenderness). How about a grilled option devoid of the breading? Their babaganoush is a fave of mine - this they do really well, not being afraid to really sear their eggplant before blending for that wonderful smoky flavor. Their fried cauliflower and brussels sprouts are both done in a unique way (harissa in the first case, with chickpeas in the second), but usually with just a tad too much oil. I suspect their basic recipes cooked by the chef are excellent. The problem is that is seldom the case. We go because it's consistently good, easy to get into, comfortable, unpretentious, and all-Mediterranean all the time. We'd go more often if they upped their game a bit.
My husband and I made a date for New Year's dinner and really enjoyed ourselves. Everything was buffet, so we got to try everything that's on the normal menu (all delicious) and eat all we wanted of hors d'oeuvres, entrees and desert. The staff was friendly and gracious—we even chatted with he manager, and the place was filled with all ages, from children to millennials, parents and grandparents enjoying themselves. We'd do it again for sure.
This was our second visit to TIQA. Emily, was the hostess and server and she was warm and engaging and offered suggestions about quantity of food we were ordering. The food was delicious. We started with the Mezze which included six different types of vegetarian dips including hummus, harrissa, some olives, spicy pickles and falafel. They were served with tiny pita triangles and the food was abundant and delicious. Our main dishes included fried cauliflower with a spicy sauce and we also ordered a trio of kababs (beef tenderloin, vegetable and scallops and shrimps. All were delicious and perfectly prepared. We enjoyed it all and had no room for dessert, unfortunately. We were seated in a quiet area and enjoyed the ambiance. Lovely for romance and decent appetites, plenty to share. We will return!
Our waitress was amazing! Very friendly and attentive!
The food was delicious but I felt it was pricey for what we got.
The atmosphere was elegant and quiet!
Creative menu fitting for all - the vegetarian and the picky eater were very happy with the menu and everything they ordered.
Christmas lunch for a relatively large group was well managed and delicious!
Great service by Jackie! Meze sampler to start was excellent. Husband had lamb shank which was excellent. I had beet salad as too full for entree. Plentiful and tasty.
Excellent restaurant located right next to the Portland Marriot Courtyard. From entering to leaving everything was excellent. The staff is pleasant and accommodating. The food was prepared perfectly and the presentation was outstanding. I had the Tiqa salad and the Lamb Shank. Both were prepared perfectly. I would recommend Tiqa to all.
Good food pleasant atmosphere
The food is great. Fresh and full of flavor. Service was awful. We wondered if they were short staffed. Had to call her over several times - to order drinks, then to order dinner, the for a second drink. Kitchen was fast.
Food was acceptable, but there was no real nuance. The hummus was completely bland and they ladled the exact same heavy-handed tomato-almond sauce over both the stuffed zucchini and the seared scallops (the scallops didn't stand a chance against the sauce.) We much prefer Baharat!
Food was excellent and well presented by efficient, friendly staff.
A pleasingly decorated environment with modern but warm ambience.
We’d definitely recommend this place for all occasions.
Some of the food was good and some not. The vegetables were also chard and not eatable. The wine tasted a bit oxide.
We had a great dinner on Saturday night. I love the fact that the menu offered dishes from a number of Mediterranean countries. The food was wonderfully prepared, absolutely delicious. The homemade pita was fantastic. We will go there again.
We choose to eat here since it was close to out hotel. It was a great decision. The food was excellent as was the service. Definitely on the list for a repeat visit.
Food over cooked and cold, pricey and slow
Great staff, service and food!
Amazing food, outstanding presentation, server (Tara) extremely efficient, pleasant, and accommodating. Cost comparable to local fine dining. Crusty lamb shank, beet salad, and roasted brussel sprouts all superbly prepared...delicious!
Really appreciated being able to make a last minute reservation for 8 at TIQA, and when we ended having 9, they were very accommodating. Loved the falafel, lamb was perfectly cooked. Great service, great food and lovely ambiance. Easy parking on a Thursday night.
Birthday. The staff was so friendly and even put a candle in mom’s dessert.
The atmosphere is very nice and the service staff is always helpful, friendly, and professional. The food is excellent and the cocktail menu is innovative. Tiqa went through a time with a chef who tried change things from the original concept. We went once, were not impressed, and didn't go back for a few years. We tried Tiqa again a few weeks ago and were so pleasantly surprised that they'd gone back to their original concept that we went the next week again! Tiqa will be a regular as long as they keep with their original concept and not let an uppety chef try to change things.
I am writing to correct my previous review. The experience for Thanksgiving was an anomaly. Dean, the owner, did contact me and apologized as well as comped a meal for myself, my wife and my son. Since that time, we have been back twice and the food and service were excellent as shown in my ratings. Everyone has a bad day or makes mistakes, so don't let my previous review dissauge you from trying TIQA. In fact I just booked a business meeting/dinner at TIQA with two out of town executives from our company.
Everything was outstanding regarding my experience at Tiga. The service was exceptional the food creative and delicious and the ambience is lovely. I will definitely go be going back many many times!
Good food and service
