Tin Can Fish House Ratings and Reviews
We made the reservation through OneTable but when we got there no one knew what was going on. We got seated and waited for 10 minutes before we decided to get up and leave due to lack of service. No one asked us for food, drinks, or so much as a “I’ll be right with you”. It was as if were invisible. Needless to say we won’t ever go back. I don’t normally write reviews but I felt this was warranted.
So this was my second visit to this restaurant. My first visit I order the Paella which came with no chicken as described in the menu. The waitress did give me a discount because of that. Ok this visit, I decided to order the Paella again since it didn't come with the chicken the last time. The Paella included mussels, calamari, shrimp, chicken. Because I don't eat calamari, I asked the server to include more muscles. When I received the Paella, there was very little chicken included in the dish. I told my concern to my waiter, and he said it's because I received extra muscles. I told him just because I didn't want calamari and instead extra muscles shouldn't determine the amount of chicken I receive. I should receive the same amount of chicken that I would have received if the dish included calamari. So long story short I was disappointed after giving this restaurant a second try, I will not be back. My mother's hamburger and fries came out the first time cold, so it was sent back to the kitchen, the second time it came out nearly raw, more like medium. The server had to take it back and didn't charge her for her meal. The food took too long to get to the table as it did the first time we visited this restaurant, and it was a like the restaurant was super packed so the food should have come out in no time. My husband ordered a grouper dinner which was great our first visit, this visit it was horrible, it definitely was not worth $18. So unfortunately this will be our last visit to this restaurant, too many inconsistencies wth the cooking and the food takes too long to get to the table.
We arrived to a semi-loud bar scene Although separate by a small wall like area- we felt form the noise we were in the bar Menu was fun and we tried tow starters and the grouper All were nicely prepared and specifically the Thai Mussels were great. The buttered based cooking sauce was by far better than expected - two rounds of bread later. The grouper was great while the stew was so-so (a little too watery for me) The waitress was helpful but at times she pushed us to order faster than we wanted. No worries - it all worked out great. One disappointment- no Key Lime Pie! Bummer! We'll need to come back!
I'd heard good things about Tin Can Fish House and it was conveniently located to meet a friend, so we decided to try to place. It has a nice, casual, coastal feel. Had it been a cooler day, it would have been nice to sit outside. We had early reservations at 5PM and arrived at 4:50. They went ahead and seated us, brought us water and asked if we wanted drinks or an appetizer while we waited for the rest of our party. We ordered fried crawfish tails for an appetizer and found them tasteless with either too much breading or not enough crawfish. For an entree, I ordered the horseradish crusted mahi mahi with the mixed vegetables and saffron rice for sides. It was really delicious and a pretty large serving. If it hadn't been so delicious, there would have been plenty for lunch the next day, but I couldn't stop eating it. The steamed vegetables were also surprisingly good. The were fresh and perfectly cooked (not over cooked or mushy). My husband had a bowl of clam chowder for his meal that he seemed to like (he ate all of it). While my meal was delicious, I wish the place hadn't been so loud. During the time we were there, only one other table was seated, so the place was pretty empty. I asked them to turn down the music because it was hard for us to hear each other talking. They said they would, but I didn't notice any decrease in the volume.
As much as I would have loved to write a glowing review about this place, I am unable to do so for the fact that we so much as never even received service. After being seated, we waited about a good 10-12 minutes before just leaving the place and finding another spot. I always hear about people who write bad reviews, merely for the sake of being compensated. The only thing I would want back, is something I can't get: our TIME! This was our first night out without our child in MONTHS and this is what we got. Can't say we would ever come back simply for the fact that with the (USUAL) Atlanta traffic its a 45 minute drive. That is how badly we wanted to try your establishment, after seeing the photos and positive reviews. Honestly that is the worst part to me....So thanks for literally, nothing.
This place is a hidden gem tucked away in a quiet shopping area off a busy highway... the patio is nice and quiet and so relaxing to sip your wine and drink your beer... the oysters are shucked well and cold... I had the naked grouper (cooked well... moist), cheddar grits (to die for) and there hush puppies that have whole kernels of corn in them... the food was outstanding, service was quick and friendly and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed... can't wait to go back!
I was wishing for oysters at a reasonable price. This place was on target. Not only did I have a dozen oysters on the half shell but also a bucket of mussels in a unique Thai coconut sauce.
My wife had the grouper done "naked" (just olive oil and lemon) and she loved it. She also had the Tin Can Salad with a unique vinaigrette dressing that she loved.
We love this place. Super fresh seafood, really relaxing atmosphere. Our waitress made a few missteps (didn't tell us that raw oysters were a special, confused our drink order, didn't tell us the giant prawns were regular shrimp, and didn't know that they had baguettes and not just crackers with the meal). But the food was wonderful. As mentioned, the giant prawns in sauce was our main dish and it was great, even with large shrimp instead of the prawns. Plenty to share for two of us with the Oysters Rockefeller app, which was so good! We arrived about 6:30 and the place was only about 1/4 full, but within 20 minutes it was packed. Super friendly atmosphere and the manager stopped by to check on us and corrected the mistakes made by the waitress. Clearly the waitress was new, but really tried and will improve, I'm sure. We live in South Carolina and make a point to dine here whenever we're in Atlanta. it's worth a little extra travel time! If Tin Can was in our town, they'd have to chase me out!
The food was wonderful. However the service was subpar. There were no nametags and now I know why. Our waitress seemed bothered by us being there. She slammed our drinks and salt and pepper down on the table. After she brought our food she did not come back to make sure it was alright for over 10 minutes. My fish was lacking the capers in a lemon butter caper sauce. When I brought this to her attention she brought me a ramekin of cold capers. The restaurant only had 6 tables but the 2 servers couldn't seem to keep up. However, when a table left they would run right over to get the check to see how much tip they got.
Customer service was awful took a long time to bring food not to mention I made a reservation for 3 they didnt open until 5 when I got my food the soft shell crabs was so hard not edible. The crab balls was nothing but filler barely any crab. The waitress barely came to.check on us my water glass was empty until we ask for our check
Tried to call to make reservation, their voicemail said to leave a message and they would return your call to confirm. Despite multiple attempts they never answered the phone and never called back. Made a reservation via OpenTable, but the restaurant doesn't seem to check these reservations, so they were clueless when we arrived, which was unfortunate because we had a large party. Still got a table after several minutes of them fumbling around. We needed a table for 7 and they provided a table for 6 saying they would bring another chair. The seventh person was left standing for almost 5 minutes before someone came back and asked if we needed another chair. Waitstaff seemed flustered to be dealing with our large party and the overall seatings in the restaurant were not being divided well among the servers so our server had 3 new tables seated in her section at once, making it difficult for her to manage orders. Service was very slow. At the end of the meal it took the waitress almost 20 minutes to bring our check. She wasn't very friendly, but that's probably because she was stressed out from the poor management. Food was delicious.
Service was horrible. We finally bussed our own appetizer dishes off our table. Food was not great. We had a table of 8 and the only positives from our group were the raw oysters, fried shrimp and paella. Calamari was cold. Chicken livers way overdone. Lobster rolls just not good! Fries not good. Slaw just ok. Waitress left her drink tray on table. We bussed it off as well. We do not recommend this place at all!
Service was terrible. Had a reservation even though one was not needed. Hostess sat us and it was almost 15-20 minutes before a waitress even greeted us or asked for drink order. At that point we should have left but have been wanting to try this local spot in my neighborhood. Clam chowder was great food overall good but due to poor service don't know if I would go back. Big disappointment
