Tim Garling's Jackalope Grill Ratings and Reviews
Not up to usual standards. maybe there was a substitute cook because it was a Monday? Husband's "cordon blue" schnitzel was pretty bad. Regular schnitzel, with a few chunks of ham and cheese on top - no sauce. Both of our potato pancakes were not done - raw inside. Took forever to get our meals and people next to us were served a long time before we were.
Won't go back.
Delicious! Have been there a few times but first time for our 30 something daughter. She thought it quite lovely & beautiful presentation, very good food. Wine suggested was perfect (we had 3 different dinners & wine went well with all!) Hope to be back soon!!!
Menu was very exciting, so many great choices. However the kitchen disappointed 3 of us.
1. Jaeger sauce excellent but the schnitzel was overcooked, only 2 bites were taken, left the rest on the plate. Told our waitress and she shrugged. No offer to reduce the bill or free dessert, which we did have. Creme Brule was excellent.
2. Flatiron steak was really enjoyed by one of our party.
3. Vodka pasta with homemade italian sausage was okay but not outstanding. Too much red sauce. Sausage was unremarkable . Penne pasta might have helped instead of raddiatore.
4. Pork osso buco was not hot throughout. Reminded us of leftovers.
We'll return again in hopes that it was just an off night for the kitchen, hoping for a dining experience we can rave about.
We love the Jackalope Grill. It is one of the restaurants we frequent often. The menu is varied and excellent--there is something for everyone! The ambience is beautiful and romantic. The branches strewn with small green lights on the ceiling is so pretty.
My husband loves the filet. It is always cooked to perfection. I'm a fan of the schnitzel --so tasty with a wonderful mushroom sauce. My favorite on the plate is the sauerkraut. Unique and delicious. We always start with the escargot. So good!
Attentive but unobtrusive service add to the pleasure of the dining experience. This place always impresses.
It takes a lot for me to give a restaurant a perfect score, but our dinner at Jackolope Grill was top notch. New item on the menu was Halibut cheeks with a mushroom risotto . Absolutely melted in your mouth. Others had the seafood Cioppino, which excellent. Service was excellent--attentive but not intrusive. This was not our first time at Jackolope Grill, and it will definitely not be our last.
We had not eaten at Jackalope in 3+ years for no real reason, after our Anniversary dinner Monday, we will dine there more frequently. Despite also serving a large party, Beth Ann, our server, was attentive, offering tastes of the wines we were considering and delivering our courses in a timely manner.
My husband and I shared the mussels and the radicchio salad, both flavorful and a good share size. Both of our entrees were generous; I had the tombo tuna seared with a pink interior, my husband the rack of lamb. We each took half of our meals home for dinner the next night.
I'll be making a return visit this soon, the Jaeger Schnitzel looked like the perfect Winter dinner.
Nice ambiance from the moment you walk through the tree limb doorway. Ate on patio amidst their herb and veggie garden. Excellent service. The wine recommended was perfect. Both dinners, Duck with cherries and Osso Bucco, along with appetizer of calamari were all delicious.
Drinks were also very good.
We had high hopes for dinner here. We had checked previous reviews and it looked good when we walked by earlier that day. We asked to be seated outside on the inner patio. They had used folding chairs and tables - just awful - covered them with table clothes to hide the shabby look. Our waitress was rude from the get -go. I ordered an appetizer - they typical mozzarella & tomatoes on bruchetta. I took one bite and tasted badly burnt bread. I returned the item and did not have t replaced. The waitress was not customer service oriented at all. I had ordered the mussels for my main course and they were wonderful. Very plump and not overcooked. My husband ordered the fresh salmon dish and was pleased too. I think the restaurant is struggling - it was not busy for a Saturday night. I would not recommend this restaurant. The waitress was far too rude for my taste.
Absolutely loved their spicy tequila and their ability to accommodate gluten free. The menu was mislabeled with one dish and, the waitstaff were well aware and quick to share to assure a safe dining experience.
I had the claims as a appetizer and they were fabulous. I also had the pork osso buco which had a wonderful flavor however, the meat did not fall off the bone. Mind you, this did not stop me from enjoying that fabulous flavor I mentioned!
Great restaurant! Food was amazing and the service was prompt and wonderful also. We sat outside and it was really neat sitting in an outside area that was walled in by surrounding buildings and lots of plants. Nice urban touch. I highly recommend this restaurant for a date, special occasion or if you're trying to make a good impression with someone.
BEST cesar salad I ever had. We celebrated our 21st anniversary and sat in the courtyard. While it was a little cool the waiter (not ever our waiter) tried valiantly to light three different heaters. HIs efforts were much appreciated. Oh and the food was excellent.
Portions were relatively large. Drinks were slow to arrive. This is the third or fourth time here and the food was similar to our other visits. They had their regular menu and a rather large seasonal small plates and entre special menu.
Our favorite of many good Bend restaurants. First time we have been there where meal didn't wow us, as pear salad was pear mush on greens and not that tasty, mushroom risotto was under seasoned and somewhat overcooked, with salmon that was really underwhelming. Every meal til this has been top-notched though, so no dimming of this star in our opinion. Specialty drinks they offer are always great and desserts are always a treat.
This was our first time. We invited our Bend friends for dinner everyone enjoyed the food . But the best part was they seated us outback in a lovely garden setting ! We all enjoyed the food and the company Thank you to the friendly waiter who let us sit there for a couple of hours
Food was excellent - unique and delicious! The indoor seating is also very nice but in the summer the patio is amazing with the restaurant's herb and tomatoe gardens all around. We sat outside at the end of July on a 90 degree day at 5:00 and it was delightful! Would highly recommend dining at Jackalope!!
We like going to the Jackalope Grill in the summer as we love their outdoor courtyard. The food has always been excellent and this visit was no exception. I had a duck breast special with a cherry sauce that was wonderful; I often have gone for their seafood and risotto special but had to try the duck as I had not seen it on the menu before. Glad I did. I have to mention that I ordered the crème brûlée for desert and, while tasty, it needs to be served in a shallower and much wider dish as the French do; more crust is the ultimate goal.
The service on this visit, however, was below the standard we have come to expect from this restaurant. We were two couples; the wives ordered a bottle of white wine, my friend ordered a beer and I had a glass of zinfandel. The white wine arrived and was tasted and it was at least another five minutes before the beer and glass of wine arrived. Bread? We had to ask for it halfway through the meal and it was eventually served.
We have always had great service at Jackalope in the past so I'm sure that this visit was an anomaly. We'll be back for the great food.
We are regulars at Jackelope and enjoy it. We unfortunately weren't very happy with our wait staff this time. There was a problem with our first course and we finally had to corner another waiter to fetch ours before we could continue eating. Just not very attentive thru the entire meal. Unfortunate, it was our anniversary.
We don’t visit Bend often, but when we do, we look forward to dining at the Jackalope Grill, something we’ve enjoyed for more than 10 years. Although we live in Roseburg, we do dine out often in PDX, which affords us a good perspective on restaurant quality and service. Last week we had the good fortune to enjoy dinner two evenings in the lovely garden patio of the Jackalope Grill — and they were both wonderful. Tim, Katherine and their entire team are at the top of their game. Outstanding. Congratulations to them all and thanks.
