What Insiders Are Saying
A new Lower East Side spot with fun vibes and classed up Mexican food. This is where you should have your next birthday.
An excellent place off the beaten path. We did not have entrees but tacos are to die for. Surprisingly amazing mushroom tacos. The rest of the selections are awesome as well. Will be back.
TP was fun- tacos were excellent, especially the pork belly!
Terrible service, mediocre food, very trashy clientele. Been in NYC for 10 years and this was one of the worst dining experiences.
great food, go on Taco Tuesdays. and great ambiance - had a fun DJ playing 2000s hiphop
Thank you Jay!!! Looking forward to see you here again any day of the week. Always a great night at Tijuana Picnic.
Tacos are the best here!
Also love the DJ for dinner hours
We were celebrating my friends 30th birthday and enjoyed a great setting with incredibly tasty cocktails, and food. All in all a great night until we ended our evening with a drink downstairs and the bartender threatened my friend as she received the check to not serve her if she didn’t leave him a tip. Very uncalled for and aggressive behaviour which ruined an otherwise lovely evening.
Went for mothers day table of 5. Was great service, great selection of food (brunch is all day on Sunday but they close at 6 just FYI), had pitcher of some strawberry margarita that had complex ingredients and tasted great. Just like their food, was authentic Mexican flavors and put together thoughtfully everything was delicious and great filling proportions! Adorable cool unique decor and music, great vibe, great people! Great seating as well roomy booths and tables. Highly recommend going for any occasion.
Could not find our reservation and gave us a hard time before seating us
Our server was really nice and attentive. He checked on us throughout the meal without being annoying. Appreciate that he warned my friend that the hot sauce is really hot.
I liked the music choice: some Michael Jackson, some 80s euro pop. Loud enough to hear but not too loud that you're screaming at your friend to have a conversation.
This is the only Mexican restaurant that I would recommend. I don't typically like Mexican food but I do like their take on it.
Thank you kindly for the fantastic review! Look forward to having you join us again soon!
Food and margaritas were amazing. It was my friend's birthday and they did a great job with the birthday surprise. And the bar scene after was so cool!
We shared the taco platter and street corn- and they did not disappoint! Loved the mushroom tacos!
The food was great and so was the ambiance. It definitely got very noisy towards the end and the waitress was horrible because the tip was already included so she was very unhelpful. Besides her everything else was great.
We were severely disappointed by both the service and the food. We started our meal off with guacamole and salsa, which is where the deliciousness ended. Side note, a large guacamole was barely enough for 4 people, so for the 6 of us it was a waste. The first round of drinks came on time, but the second came after we had finished our meal. 5/6 of the meal came together with one order of tacos that were forgotten about, and didn't arrive until 20 minutes after the other meals were on the table. The quesadilla was burnt and barren, the veggie quesadilla comes with one veggie and its mushrooms, so good luck if you're allergic. Our waitress was inattentive, and refused to write down our order which might be why the tacos arrived un-fashionably late. We were there for a birthday, and she brought out the cake a good 35 minutes after we asked her to, as we were calling it quits on the cake and getting ready to leave. They did give us free tequila shots for all of the inconveniences, but somethings even tequila cant fix.
Receiving the check was the quickest part about the service, and it came out wrong with an extra $30 charge and a 20% gratuity already included.
I don't recommend going here. You'll leave hungry and broke, salivating as you walk by the dollar pizza place next door.
Great atmosphere. Great food and service too.
Really cool vibe and great service, but the only good things on the menu are the guacamole and margs. Clearly, they’re relying on drunk millennials. Sucks bc it could be awesome but the food was meh and we ordered about everything off of it.
I am pretty disappointing with my experience at Tijuana Picnic. The portion sizes were ridiculously small for the prices (think $15 for a quesadilla the size of two small decks of playing cards with NO sides). The chips and guac also were so ridiculously small it was almost comical. The service was pretty terrible as well. We had to keep flagging down our waiter because he was no where to be found and then after only being at the restaurant for an hour, we were given our check and told they were trying to move some tables out! Pretty rude. I understand it was a Saturday night and we were a party of 6, but I had made reservation 3 weeks in advance and didn't appreciate being rushed out the door.
Too crowded!!! Basically a frat party
Amazing! Such nice staff and great food and drinks!
We were 15 minutes late to my birthday dinner, and they gave away our table. They told us they had a table, but we had to leave in 1 hour. I never had an experience like this before. The waitress kept pushing us to leave, and we had to eat our food in 45 minutes then they kicked us out. The worst part for 45 minutes the bill was $400. The manager could care less about our dinner being ruined. The food was mediocre and I don’t think I will ever go back again. Overpriced and extremely rude. Thanks for a crap bday dinner!
Food was just ok. They were not accommodating to changes for anyone with allergies, asked for a plain chicken quesadilla, was told they could not do it. Then ordered a cocktail on rocks and was charged $68.00 or $81.00 with their added gratuity. No drink menu was available, so had to listen to waiter tell what they had, or look at the bar, feel we should have been given a heads up if a drink is that much $$. When we spoke to the manager, he asked us if we were "coerced into ordering it" and it costs him $160.00 per bottle wholesale or $6.40 per ounce and a 2 oz pour would be $12.80. Feel this was very excessive and should have been given a heads up about the gorging.
Fun place !
Came here to celebrate the end of my school semester and it was exactly what I wanted. The upstairs restaurant was lively, but not obnoxiously lively. The lighting and the music were great, which are very date night-y. The club downstairs didn't exactly live up to my expectations, but worth checking out.
Avoid it. Over priced, poor quality, rude staff.
terrible service and over priced food. don't recommend at all. it took an hour to get the margarita we ordered and got chips without guacamole one hour later we ordered!
The hostesses were unbelievably rude. I checked in for my 9 PM reservation and was told our table wasn’t ready so we should wait at the bar. We were waiting until 930 when I asked about my table again. The hostess told me I never checked in with her and proceeded to act as though I was the inconvenience. There was no apology to the confusion, only many eye rolls from the hostess who screwed up. Very disappointed with my experience
On open table, it clearly says that there is a prix fixe for $55 with 1.5 hours of drinks and food included. When we got there, a menu was put in front of us for $50. So we ordered and then after we ordered, we were informed that drinks aren’t included and the offer was only available on Thursday’s. It was a shocking experience because it was in front of everyone who was there for a birthday. So we cut it short and left. The whole bar team and manager were completely at odds with each other and no one had a clue what they were doing. Skip this place. Typical investor funded land grab for money without one actual owner on the premise.
Had an amazing experience from the ambience down to the food
Really disappointed in this place. Portions were absolutely tiny and very overpriced. They don’t give chips and salsa for the table which is lame. The wine pours were chinsy.
Fun lively but terrible service and we felt super rushed
The regular margarita was horrible. The guacamole was decent. They were nice but the portions were super small and for the price it wasn’t worth it at all.
Always an enjoyable evening - the food is fabulous and the service is always great. Not game enough to try the cricket aioli though...
Everything was good. Food was really good. For some reason, the noise level just got turned up like a 100% in the middle of dinner. My friend and I couldn't hear each other talking. So that kind of took away from the whole dinning experience.
Definitely not a place to order food. Great bar vibes and weekend spot though. Just don't recommend the food unless its classic guac and chips.
The restaurant had a good ambience and atmosphere but was extremely crowded, loud and the service was slow. Our server was trying but didn't seem like he cared and the hostess sat him with 3 large parties all at once so he was a little overwhelmed. We waited for 20-25 minutes for our table after already having a 9:45 pm reservation and got yelled at by a hostess / manager it seemed asking us to get out of the way - downstairs got too crowded and upstairs there was no where to stand as we waited for our table to be re-set. Food was good but not sure I'll be back unless on a quieter night to hang at the bar.
Worst service experience for my birthday dinner, will never go back again.
Cool decor and perfect for the urban hipster who doesn’t mind paying for it. The food is very tasty but extremely small portions for the price. The skewers have a total of 6 bites of chicken so not nearly enough as a meal for anyone who is the least bit hungry. The noise level is so high- you cannot have a conversation so our party of 6 left quickly in order to be able to talk. The cocktails and the waiter were the highlight.
