Tierra Sur at Herzog Wine Cellars Ratings and Reviews
This is probably the best kosher restaurant in the United States. It is located within the Herzog Winery. At the entrance, there is a bar where you can have a wine tasting; I think it was $10 for 6 different wines. You can also order appetizers for a moderate price. We were there for dinner, and the food was superb. The waiters are very attentive. The price is not cheap, but there are several kosher steakhouses in New York that are much more expensive. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
This was our second time dining at Tierra Sur, and we were not disappointed. The staff was friendly and attentive and made us feel incredibly welcome. Our waiter, Jacob, who was also our waiter on our first visit, was courteous and considerate and made our visit all the more lovely. We will definitely be back!!!
We went there to celebrate my birthday!
The waiter that helped us was so rude and we waited too long for our food to get ready. They were out of sweet potato which is very odd for Sunday! There steak size was very small for $65 charge with the green beans side dish which was not tender at all!
When you charge $75 for a steak you need to set some ground rules for families that come in with children under 5 years old. One of the problems I have with going to a nice kosher restaurant is the unwillingness of the staff to tell families with out-of-control children to maintain a level of behavior conducive for fine dining. There are plenty of family friendly kosher restaurants that are appropriate for small children, but until the expensive restaurants will stand up for their other customers and tell their patrons to address their misbehaving (running around and yelling) kids they are not welcome, I will not be back
The reservation was made as an annerversary dinner. As it was a quiet night we were greeted but our reservation wasn't checked off as you pretty much sit wherever you wanted. As a result we were treated to a fantastic meal, but without the celebration aspect I was hoping for.
The experience was rather well and I would give it the highest of ratings as an overall. My only disappointment, personally, was the lack of vegan options which I had specified in the "special requests" upon setting the reservation. It wasn't even brought up and when I did so it seemed as if I'd asked an odd question. Other than that it was as fantastic as usual.
I absolutely LOVE this restaurant, not just for the delicious food and nice, quiet ambience but most importantly the fact that it is DAIRY FREE. I'm lactose intolerant and this is always an issue for me at most restaurants, but not this one. I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but trying to decipher on a menu what is dairy free is not easy is most restaurants and limits my options. My husband is not dairy free, but he can't tell the difference here. ALso, he Dropped his knife on the floor & before he could turn around to summon another, they were placing a new one on the table for him. AMAZING FOOD & SERVICE!
I would recommend the restaurant as a kosher restaurant which has wonderful wines . As a pescarian I have had fish prepared better . Yes , the food was presented very nicely and the sides were interesting . In my opinion , the prices were very high . Since it was a kosher restaurant we ate there twice in our 24 hours in the area .
Definitely pricey but perfect for a special night out with friends, family, or that extra special someone. I went in a group of 9. We had a fantastic evening.
Started our night off walking through their art exhibit on the second floor. From here we also saw a part of their facilities. Wish it weren't a holiday. Their guided tour were canceled for the day.
We then headed back down for a wine tasting flight. We bought several bottles to bring home with us.
Next, we moved into their dining area and started with their delectable Lamb Chorizo con Huevo. We ordered the Moroccan Lamb Ravioli as an appetizer as well. It missed the mark by being a little bland and dry. When it came time for the entrees, the Uruguayan Ribeye was perfection! The right seasoning, sauce, and sides. As someone who does not enjoy fish, the sea bass was also enjoyable. I paired my meal with the Ventura Surf’s Mondo’s Blonde Ale. Maybe not the best drink for this meal but it was a very tasty beer.
Great food. Best Kosher steaks served in a restaurant anywhere. The winery tour and wine tasting are worthwhile before dining. This is a small restaurant so reservations are strongly recommended. The staff are very welcoming and the service is very personable.
we were seated in a side room and found it quieter and more pleasant than main dining room - especially since we had a baby stroller with us. A little bit harder to get noticed by wait staff since they are in the other room. But food was enjoyed by all - those of us who order burgers - medium - were a bit disappointed to have received well done burgers but we didn't have enough time left to complain and start over. However the flavor was good. Did the 3 wine pairing with our lunch which is so much fun.
I had the salmon entree with beets, grapefruit, corn fritters and something called orange dust. It was excellent and beautifully presented. My husband had the turkey sandwich and found it quite bland. I had three little scoops of ice cream but was unimpressed. Probably because it is a Kosher restaurant that concentrates on meat dishes--thus no dairy.
We've been here over the years, and until this visit have always been satisfied,on this occasion,I found the salad unacceptable, there prices higher than I remember, and the $48.00 steak(the least expensive on time menu) very chewy and not tasty, This restaurant has great ambiance, but on this occasion I was very disappointed.
This place was by reviewing comments from customers looked amazing, the ambiance and layout are amazing, food also great and so tasty. One thing that I didn't like about place with this standards is the staff wasn't friendly, I tried to be more sociable and nice but everyone served my family were so stiff and I didn't feel the warm treatment.
