These are not "usual" times. The restaurant was great under the "coronavirus" conditions. The menu was somewhat limited, but the options were very satisfying. The ambiance didn't match the food because of the need to protect patrons and staff. Based on our experience, in normal times, the ambiance is quite good. Service was very professional, but working in a "tent" with a restructured staff isn't what I know would have been during "normal" times. All in all, we were very happy dining at the restaurant and don't hold the coronavirus limitations against it. The food quality was not the least bit compromised. This is an expensive restaurant, but we feel it gives good value. We'll be back under coronavirus conditions, even with our three-hour drive.
Amazing food and the offerings are quite unique. This is a worthwhile stop for any foodie. I would say it is one of the top 10 restaurants in Ventura County.
There are limited menu choices but that may be due to Covid. Dinner is currently only offered prix fixe. If you are picky eater, you may be disappointed with the selection.
There is a "bar" area out front that offers burgers and other items ala carte. We saw some of the great looking burgers leaving the kitchen and will be back to try them.
The restaurant is part of the Herzog winery. We only tried their house select Chardonnay but we enjoyed it very much. We will go back for additional tastings.
Their outdoor patio is nicely appointed and you don't realize you are actually in an industrial park. However, you don't have some fantastic view of something like the ocean either.
The place is rather casual despite the high-end pricing. The young wait staff could use a bit more polish. They are not quite as attentive or as well versed in dining etiquette as competing establishments. I would have particularly enjoyed more detailed descriptions of the wines and food selections. There were a few other nuances that could be improved on as well but they really only matter because this place is in a class where expectations run higher.
Really awesome food. Great service. Would go again.
Nice place great wines great experience well recommended
The food was absolutely phenomenal. There was nothing that wasn’t 10/10. Austin was a fantastic waiter as well! The beef cheek nuggets and the pear crumble pie were particularly good, but everything else was really amazing. It was worth the wait to come back to a gastronomic experience like this!
Always fabulous food and great service. The wine tastings are also great.
Choice of Fixed Menu, so one is limited. Food is good. Not great. Expensive for what it is. Wines are okay. Again very expensive for what it is. Kosher wines tend to be over priced compared to what they are. But I knew all this before I went.
Outstanding fresh food cooked to perfection. The chef never fails to impress with his innovative dishes. Only wish I had room to eat even more!
All of the food was presented very well, looked nice, and tasted great. Pre-fix menu has only four choices per course, but at least one or two would appeal to most people. The first two appetizer courses overall are just not very filling and the main course is a nice-sized portion but not overly filling. Desserts were also very good, but again on the slightly smaller side. Weird that with the four courses, you do not get a basket of bread at your table, but I did see bread on tables that ordered fewer courses (not sure if this was intentional or not). Overall, it's a great dining experience, and you will encounter many different and satisfying flavors, but for the the money you are spending, you would expect your stomach to be completely or more-than filled...yet it's not.
The food and drinks are delicious.
Courteous service with aiming to please.
Our table was ready as soon as we arrived. Masked & gloved waiters were very attentive. Food was amazing. One star off for the flies who seemed to want to check out our mains. COVID protocol were carefully followed. Tables were spaced out well on the patio.
Very limited lunch menu
They didn't have burgers so we had to take fried chicken sandwiches that we didn't like.
Every second the waiter said something finished...
This restaurant is very expensive and the food is ok.
Food was delicious and unique, service was excellent!
Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great Great restaurant
One of the best meals we have ever had! The only sad part about it was due to the pandemic our dinner had to outside and we didn't get a chance to sit in the beautiful inside and enjoy the winery. The menu items are so unique and served beautifully along with their terrific taste!
Great food, great service, nice ambience. What more can you ask for! Please
We enjoyed our dinner at Tierra Sur very much. The food was great and the service excellent and we were able to have the bonus of Elon Gold doing a stand-up comedy show. We would definitely recommend it.
Service was excellent. Food was generally very good but some combinations were weird and distasteful such as chicken liver and strawberry jam. Bok choy too bitter.
But overall very nice ambience and nice wines, etc.
Amazing food, great wine and wonderful service. We had a beautiful, delicious evening with our family. Hands down one of the best steaks I ever had. Sur La Terre lives up to its great name.
AmaIng food and amazing service! Their 4-course meal was incredibly fresh, original and high-quality- worth the splurge for that special occasion
The food was delicious. The service was great. The atmosphere was very enjoyable. It was definitely worth the 75 mile drive to get there.
The food was excellent. The prix fixe menu was a bit annoying though. Also, the Facebook page had touted a new burger, it was not listed on the menu nor described by the waiter. There was only one functioning bathroom. Most guests used their masks appropriately, but several walked quite close to us without wearing their masks.
Great light lunch. We got a great table at the end of the covered patio, perfect: not too sunny with a bit of a breeze. Service was amazing with masked and gloved servers. We got the Carrot soup, delicious! I got the Halibut nuggets, super fresh, not dry, with amazing crunchy batter and tangy mango salsa. My husband got the Salmon Burger which was the ultimate take on a Salmon Burger. The bun was light, the salmon patty perfectly cooked, avocado, red onion and garlic alioli with the most perfect runny fried egg on top.
love this restaurant my most favorite place to go and the atmosphere is amazing. food is amazing. safety with corona is done right.
Great food and service. Wait staff was very attentive. Wine was superb - I loved the Pinot Rose. We visited during Covid-19 procedures and felt very safe. All staff wore masks and gloves, tables were distanced and the seating was all on the patio. With the exception of a few diners, everyone complied with the rules.
We will definitely visit again. Thank you for a great night.
Fixed Menu with Patio Seating. It was a great night and a lot of fun. Good food, Great wine, and under the stars.
Food was very very very expensive but amazing and fantastic and delicious - it’s all outside seating and comfortable social distance
Wonderful food experience - unmatched for the kosher observant. Each item provoked interest and showed innovation. No suggestions on how to make it better, because evary phase from reservation through Bircat HaMazone was memorable.
The food was delicious!
The Service awesome,
The Staff was very friendly, and So accommodating!
Have wanted to go here for years due to such wonderful reviews by word of mouth and as seen on-line. Food was mediocre at best. I took someone here as a gift to them and to celebrate them. I was embarrassed. The ambiance was not good; I understand the under-stated decor and table settings due to the pandemic. The service was good but slow, particularly given it was not at all crowded.
The menu described the interesting and delicious food I expected of this restaurant. The presentation was good in most cases, but never superior and in some cases just not well presented. The food was very sub-par. Almost across the board NOT flavorful, in some cases not well cooked (too dry, too cooked, mushy, etc.), and very, very disappointing. Example: the lemon tart crust and topping seemed like it would have come from a frozen, quick desert purchased at the grocery store. Like cardboard for the crust and a fluffy white nothing for the topping. My guest was also very disappointed after looking forward to Tierra Sur at Herzog Wine Cellars :(
Note: Our two 4-course meals and one bottle of sparkling water (no alcohol) was about $243 including your built-in gratuity. Based on quality of food, I'd have expected a restaurant to charge $150 or less...and even at that we still would have been disappointed in the quality. I've never left a restaurant review on line but thought this called for it.
I hope for your benefit and continued business that this was an anomaly....
Fantastic experience. Best kosher restaurant. Sophisticated menu, exceptional service. Great wine list, including library and aged wines.
We've eaten at Tierra Sur before but this was our first experience with their relatively new "bar menu." I had the burger and it was terrific, just about the right size for lunch and very flavorful. I asked for medium rare and that's exactly what I got. My companion had the fish tacos (three) and she liked them a lot. Well seasoned, good sized portions but not overwhelming.
We will definitely be going there again, next time swapping items. They also have lighter fair (more like appetizers) if that's your interest and a steak for big appetites.
Of course you can't beat their wine list and yesterday's service was at the same high level as always. Tierra Sur is very classy but without being stuffy or formal.
We were outside (a Covid-19 rules requirement) and one smallish issue was that there were quite a few flies for a while. That's not entirely under their control and the order requiring outside service came about unexpectedly just two days before. That one issue isn't something that put us off though.
Amazing food but expensive. The fact that it was kosher was a big plus. We were definitely come back again!!
We are always treated and fed like royalty at Tierra Sur. Chef Gabe never disappoints with his exquisite and elegant dishes. The staff is friendly and courteous and everyone practiced extra safe measures with masks and social distancing. Looking forward to our next trip out.
No review needed, Best food and service on West coast.
Amazing ! Food top quality everything was first class ! Can’t wait to go back !
Delicious food for great price 150$ for 3 people with 20% service fee! It’s a steal for the quality food
Food was incredible
We are and will continue to be loyal customers and club members. I realize that these times are not easy but we found our waiter to be somewhat disengaged from what he was doing. The wine pairing was very rationed. $40 for three 3 OZ servings, 2 of which were standard (Russian river, Rose) and only the Cabb Ranch was a premium wine, does not seem reasonable. Had we known, we would have gotten 2 bottles for the 4 of us and at least had enough to go along with the meal. We are usually very happy with our outings to the restaurant but this time was somewhat underwhelming.
Crazy expensive and very tiny portions. Never spent so much for so little.
