Tidepools - Grand Hyatt Kauai Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I went for the atmosphere mostly, and being long time vegetarians, we saw a tofu dish that sounded like it may have some potential.
The service was on island time as we expected, and we weren't in any rush. Just enjoy the koi swimming around outside your window table (if you are fortunate to get one) and your company and all is good there!
The tofu dish arrived and it looked like a nice presentation, but the taste was little to be desired for my palate. The dish was very obviously deep fried (confirmed by the kitchen staff) and that did not suit me well - especially in the middle of the night. I consumed less than half of the plate and only ate what I did because I was hungry and it seemed like a waste of the most expensive tofu dish I've ever had. Side note, the onions in the dish were among the sweetest out there!
I was hoping for a better dish, but it is what it is. We went to enjoy each other's company, away from our kids for a minute, and for the ambience of the place.
I'm sure the meat and seafood are on point at this place because that's more mainstream and it is a better fit for the clientele of the Hyatt corporation.
Food was delicious! I was a skeptic going into dinner here because I thought it was just going to be another over priced resort restaurant where the food was just okay..... this wasn’t the case at all. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly, our service was wonderful and the setting is great. When we come back to this resort (because we have vowed that we will) we will definitely eat here again.
My wife and I both had the macadamia nut crusted mahi-mahi which was excellent. We also both had the Thai soup to start. It was also excellent. I had a Tai Chi cocktail which was very good. The staff was very attentive and courteous. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion.
This was our second trip to Tidepools over the last year and we were not disappointed. The fish was well seasoned and prepared perfectly, the side items were all delicious and matched the entree well. We had malasadas for dessert and they were some of the best we have ever had. Booking early got us a waterfront table just in time for sunset.
Service was excellent except at check in at the hostess station. Was told our table would not be ready for 15 to 20 minutes even though thou the place was half empty. When I mentioned this the two people at the podium said that because occupancy was in the 60's that not all tables were set up for service so we had to wait for the tables that were to clear then they proceeded to return to their conversation between each other. Every other member of the staff was excellent and bent over backwards to make sure everything was perfect.
Lovely open-air dining experience surrounded by Koi ponds and Tiki torches without the usual distraction of a ukulele in the background. The atmosphere is great for romantic dinners as well as friends/business occasions. The food is delicious and well presented and the menu has options that will please just about everyone. You can't go wrong with the Macadamia crusted MahiMahi. The service seemed a little slow for our table (compared to the one with kids next to us), but it was attentive and allowed us a relaxed conversation. Love this restaurant and look forward to going next time we are in Kauai!
We were dining at the last seating, which may have been the problem. Our waiter was inattentive and scattered. He took the wine list before we’d had a chance to order wine (so we had to wait for him to bring the back and then wait 15-20 minutes for him to come back again so we could order some). Our waiter brought out our entrees and forgot to bring the salad we ordered (so we canceled it). He also never mentioned the molten lava cake when we ordered and, even though we wanted to order it, he’d disappear so fast, we never got the chance.
I’d ordered the filet (medium rare), which was served raw in the middle. I sent it back and it was returned overdone and charred. Our catch of the day was, however, wonderful. The capper was when our server dropped the check and failed to leave a pen. Classic.
it's a lovely location, but the food is, quite frankly, fairly pedestrian. We ordered 3 fish entrees, and kudos to the chef for trying (each dish had a different starch) but each fish was over-cooked and the net impact just was lacking for value. Add to that a massively over-priced wine list, and the value equation drops a lot.
Beautiful setting for a romantic meal. Most seating is adjacent to the Koi pond that surrounds the place. I have to say the filet mignon was the best I have ever had. Like all of Hawai‘i the price was extremely high but at least the view and quality of the food was good. My one complaint is my wife and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary and we were seated next to a table with small children. This is not a restaurant appropriate for small kids even those wealthy enough to afford it. Take the kids to one of the many other high priced hotel restaurants overlooking the swimming pool. But that’s just me. I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a unique place to celebrate a special occasion or just your last night on this beautiful island paradise.
