Tidepools - Grand Hyatt Kauai
Not out first visit here. The dinner did not disappoint. Filet was cooked perfectly. Sides were yummy. Service was attentive but not intrusive. We have never had a bad experience at Tidepools.
Our best meal on Kauai. Super pricey but the food was delicious.
Fabulous meal, entertaining staff, looked after us for a special birthday event. Good wines selection. Lovely "no rush" atmosphere - oh and fantastic white chocolate birthday cake with strawberrys!
We had an excellent meal and Les was an incredible server!
5th Anniversary of where we ate after getting married on the beach. Ambiance is special. My wife ordered steak medium--it came medium-rare to rare. Waiter was friendly and knowledgeable (he pointed out the lobster dish was NOT gluten free as written in the menu which was important because my wife needs gluten-free food). He explained the options very thoroughly. All-in-all a memorable experience.
Great food service bit slow
Got the feeling they reserved the best tables on the outside for hotel guests. Didn’t think it would be a problem at 8:30 but we sat way inside with no breeze next to the koi pond. Food was really disappointing. Got grilled octopus which was ok. Server was helpful and he mentioned it was cooked for 4 hours and then grilled. I’m not sure why octopus needs to be cooked that long but it was very hard. Flavor was not bad. For dinner we had the fish special which was good. 1/2 Lobstertail, one shrimp, two nicely cooked scallops and a small swordfish steak. Very good. Also had filet ordered medium. This is where we ran into problems because service was very slow and I think our filet sat under the heat lamp a little too long. It was so dry with only one piece in the very middle being medium and containing some juice. I’m not one to send back food but I wish I had at the cost. I was not asked if my steak was cooked to my liking. I’m sorry but if you are a fine dining establishment you need to cook your top dish to perfection every time and then get it to the table to be enjoyed. If you can’t do that then you should let me know so I can go to one of the other amazing restaurants in the area. It’s not about the money if you are looking to have a fine dining experience, it’s about the opportunity wasted and time lost enjoying a meal.
We had a wonderful experience. Ask for Les! He was amazing in every way. His knowledge about the menu was deeply appreciated. He was so helpful in helping me decide what to get. He made our honeymoon memorable !
Lovely setting. Great food and service. Was there for husbands birthday.
We had a party of six, four of us ordered the Hawaiian Catch. It was excellent. The scallop and the swordfish were the best I have had at any restaurant. They were lightly seasoned and cooked perfectly. The scallop was tender and moist, melted in your mouth. The swordfish was also tender and moist, not dry in the least.
The table was isolated from the main part of the restaurant so it was not difficult to hear people talk across the table. The service was great, the waiter had excellent recommendations for the menu.
We ate dinner at Tidepools while on vacation. GREAT place and highly recommend. The Macadamia Nut encrusted fish was awesome, great wines. Service and atmosphere were one of a kind. I recommend a table by the water and definitely reservations.
We were there for our 30th anniversary, and let them know that. They seated us in what amounts to be a walkway from the bar area to the primary restaurant seating. Heavy traffic from waiters/waitresses, as well as guests (hardly a romantic dinner). Service was very slow - didn't bother requesting a second drink. They gave us a free dessert for our anniversary, but we just wanted to leave (took 2 bites) Everyone was friendly and the food was good - but I can't recommend this for any special occasion.
My husband and I went for a nice dinner on our honeymoon and Tidepools did not disappoint! The ambiance and overall setting are gorgeous and the staff was so sweet and polite. They even threw in molten lava cake dessert because it was our honeymoon. Definitely coming back next time we’re on the island
We had a wonderful table in a private area off the main restaurant. Food, service and ambiance was very good.
Beautiful location and open air dining above the koi pond only add to the great food and cocktails.
Wow what an experience! This is a must do. The restaurant was very attentive to our needs, read the notes placed in the open table reservation and went really above and beyond to make it the best possible experience for our family and mother who is on her bucket list trip. Had the best seats in the house. Thank you for making it so specialist!
Fish was too heavily laden with salt and sauce!
Brilliant ambience, great service and awesome food! A must visit in Kauai for those celebrating a special occasion.
Spectacular setting in an open air Halé with Koi all around. The Appetizers were good. Service was OK not great. My steak was overcooked--perhaps this is really a seafood place. All around a mediocre meal in a great setting.
We made a reservation in advance, which is highly recommended, and we were seated pretty much on time. The ambiance is fantastic, with waterfalls and water surrounding. We watched the clouds change with the sunset and as the sun went down the tiki torches came on.
We started with bread and crab cakes- both very delicious. The crab cakes had aioli sauce of some kind which was great with the cakes. My husband had the macadamia nut encrusted mahi mahi with a rice side, though they were sold out of the mahi mahi so it was substituted with ono, but still tasted fantastic. I had the Hawaiian catch which was shitome partnered with a shrimp, scallop, and small lobster tail, with a side of purple sweet potatoes. Again, there was a delicious aioli sauce drizzled over it all for a tasty finishing touch.
Finally, we ordered the chocolate lava cake which was the perfect finish.
The service was great, and our waiter was so kind the entire evening offering choice wine pairings and suggestions on food.
I definitely recommend dining here. The views are incredible and food is delicious. Our server was very helpful and explained each dish on the menu. Everything sounded great. Will definitely be back on my next vacation to Kauai!
Excellent food, service and ambiance--at a very expensive price.
Excellent experience. Service was top notch
The food was bad even for uninspired hotel food, with the inflated price you would expect from a resort. Not recommended.
Bread had hard edges, suggesting it had been sitting out all day before being warmed.
Fish was dramatically overcooked.
Dishes were poor executions of boring ideas from 1991.
Service was not great either, but I don’t really care about service generally.
Everything done to perfection or close to it. Meal was terrific and service close to flawless.
Amazing food and service. We were celebrating my wife’s 40th birthday and they make her feel special.
Great setting. Food was good. Service was good but not great. Booked for a birthday they did t even acknowledge.
Absolutely incredible food. Possibly the best meal of our lives. The scallop appetizer is a MUST!
The food and service are very good but it’s pricey.
We were looking forward to having a very special family meal at Tidepools for our last evening in Kauai. Having enjoyed all our other meals at the hotel and after reading all the amazing reviews our expectations were quite high. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere surrounded by beautiful fountains and ponds with Koi fish. Unfortunately, our table was not ready for our reservation. We had to wait about another 20 minutes after we arrived. I’ve never had this happen to me before at a high end restaurant. However, they were apologetic, warm, and friendly when they seated us. We started with tasty cocktails, the tuna poke appetizer, the jicama salad, and garden salad. The tuna poke was delicious. If I was going to get nit picky my only feedback would be that it was more of a tuna tartare than a poke and should have been described as such. The jicama salad was fantastic and quite unique with pickled mango. I had to ask to view the wine menu after our main courses had arrived. Again, something I questioned in my mind for a high end restaurant but was not overly concerned about. Although I did not say anything, the wait staff were extremely apologetic and insisted on covering the glass of wine as well as a dessert. I very much appreciated their care to remedy this minor faux pas. Our biggest disappointments of the evening were our main courses. I ordered the macadamia nut crusted mahi-mahi, my husband ordered rib eye, and my son ordered seared ahi. My son enjoyed his dish though he felt it was similar to other seared ahi dishes he has had in the past. I could barely finish my mahi-mahi. It was very bland in flavor and extremely over cooked. One of the driest I have ever had. However, the surrounding sides were quite tasty. I also believe that if I had said something they would have been more than happy to fix me another. I made that choice. My husband said his steak was cooked fine but not as good as expected for a restaurant of this caliber and price point.
It was an amazing evening surrounded of waterfront and fishes while having a delicious dinner. The service was great. I really recommend it.
Excellent ambience. Restaurant is on the grounds of the Fairmont and surrounded by fish and turtles. Really good service.
Excellent food Excellent service for the area. I would recommend if you are staying at Grand Hyatt or in the vicinity. Volcano Ono fish was excellent. Prime Rib was a bit too fatty for my taste but oh well, i should not have ordered such a dish in Hawaii, stick with seafood if you can. Service was nice. For Hawaii it was excellent. I love in NJ/ NY metro area and we are used to better quality meats and service but for Hawaii and my overall experience I give it an A+! Very lovely setting if you are staying at the hotel .
We celebrated our anniversary here. The ambiance and service were top notch. We had a very private table with high back chairs surrounded by the koi ponds. The food was very good. I'd rate the food at Red Salt higher but overall this was a great dinner.
Shrimp was not cooked in one of our dishes
Great meal great ambience waiter however forgot my wine after being reminded him twice. He Presented the wine after my main meal was completed and offered an apology and no charge for the wine rather unacceptable for a high-class place
Food and service were amazing. Our waitress Wilma was perfect she made our night even better.
Great ambiance and service was good. Not too impressed for the price paid. Steak was over cooked. Foie Gras was terrible.
Must say the Opah was great tho.
