I would like to like this restaurant but they are horribly mismanaged. Dinner reservations were not honored in a timely way. The hostess said we were checked in and then forgot about us. The kitchen only made about 20 entrees over two hours and that seemed to stretch them. The food was ok but the prices were 4 or 5 star level and did not merit the quality. The wait staff was friendly but this place is dysfunctional.
We have frequently brought friends from out of town here and usually go In Dec. for boat parade. This last time was embarrassing!
We had reservations and it was a Monday night. Arrived at 5:45 ordered promptly and was not served entrees until almost an hour later.
Food on new menu was just average and not worth the price . Management and wait staff were apologetic but still the experience was not what we expected.
We booked a special dinner date at the Tidal restaurant at the Paradise Point resort a month in advance. I spoke to the reservations person to request our favorite table. I verified the week before my open table notes stated we wanted our special table. Again, the day before spoke to the hostess calling to confirm our reservation to be sure and save table 22, she said yes she had that noted. On the day of our date I called again to ensure we were set. 4 times I did my part in planning a perfect evening. Well you can imagine how I felt to walk in early before our 6 pm reservation to find the hostess has seated someone at our table. Ruined my surprise for my husband. The manager apologized ; I told him it’s not his fault but it’s that hostess lack of diligence who ruined my plans. They put us in the middle of all the loud noise at a big table instead of a romantic cozy corner.
The lesson: the hostess needs to be replaced and if you are planning an evening where details matter, pick another restaurant. Procedures should be addressed to ensure customer requests are supported. This is twice in 60 days this has occurred.
Very small cute place. Way to bright. Very small portions. Food was just ok. The place is way over priced. Our server was awesome. Dessert was terrible
Won't be back
Good but overpriced. It was a good place for someone that is not very hungry and enjoys small dishes. The dishes were good but not worth the money. The best part were the wide comfy chairs because it's all about comfort.
Outstanding restaurant. The service, the food and the ambiance was spot on. Will be dining here often. Especially when we have friends in from out of town.
Great food. Kitchen was a little backed up but we weren’t in a rush. Best chocolate cake ever! ! !
We had a wonderful meal in a quiet relaxed setting.
Waiter was amazing. Food was amazing. Atmosphere was amazing. Everything was amazing!
Fabulous! A little pricey but the food was perfectly delicious and worth every penny. The waiter was fantastic! The atmosphere is amazing! We’ll be back for sure.
Overall very nice experience at Tidal. Portions were small but food quality very good. Reasonable wine prices. Good service and nice atmosphere. Will re-visit when it's warmer and will try to catch sunset.
Food and service were good but we also picked a cold night when no one else was there (low season) so getting attention was not a problem.
They also add a 4% fee to the bill as some stupid offset to a local increase in minimum wage. I thought that was unethical. Add it to your prices so people know how much they are spending - don’t slip it in on the tab at the end!!! Is this common in San Diego??
Delicious cuisine yet very pricey
Service was excellent
Place and service were great! We went on Christmas Eve and it is surprisingly overpriced. We started with the appetizer which is okay then the entree threw everything off. Prime rib with mash and uncooked string beans were all bland my wife got the salmon instead of grouper with chick pea and sauce overpowered the fish. I feel really bad paying 230$ for this evening. Sorry not sorry I cook for a living Im not the greatest but you they couldve done better.
Personally I would not recommend this place for food. Food was awful. First off I picked this place for the food but didn’t know there was a set menu for that day. My bad. We had the Christmas Dinner. For $70 a person I expected way better food. I had the tamale duck. Strange tasting. The only thing that was decent was prime ribs and mash potatoes. For Desert I had Orange chocolate chip cookie which was weird tasting. A grity strange tasting milk shake. Wasn’t really even a milkshake. Was not worth money or trip.
Early Christmas Eve dinner.
Amazing and delicious food. Friendly staff. The food was very good and everyone treated us with care and respect.
Food was prepared well, A little Pricey. Needs better drinks/Bar options. Great place to sit outside on the water. Dinner Room not a good place with a date.
The patio is a beautiful place to enjoy a sunset with great cocktails and a creative menu
Fantastic 50th birthday experience!
Fabulous food and service. Great atmosphere. Good food for your money. Hidden gem.
Unfortunately, my wife and kids really didn't enjoy the food here. The Chicken Confit was overcooked and dry. Entree Diver Scallops (2) can be a full entree. Mash potatoes were like glue (over processed not mashed). They sat all the families with kids on one end away from other patrons. Didn't enjoy our Thanksgiving dinner at all.
Went for Thanksgiving since this used to be a great restaurant. We were wrong. This was one of the worst Thanksgiving meals we have ever experienced. The food was really awful. I couldn't eat it. Yet it was $70/person plus the wine pairing cost (with lousy wines). The personnel were great from the servers to the hostesses, but they were overshadowed by D+ cafeteria quality food that was truly awful. This was a Thanksgiving where I went home hungry!!
Disappointing, expensive dinner. The flavors of the food didn’t taste good. Do not get the $40 bland tuna with mushrooms. You will never want to eat a mushroom again. We regretfully should have just gone to a taco shop, which we know is always good.
Service was so slow, we didn’t get our drinks until the food showed up.
Our breakfast was ok, but the restaurant was super cute! We sat outside and you can’t beat the view!!
We stayed the night at Paradise Point to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. I took him to Tidal for dinner. I had the salmon and he had the Sea Bass. The food was excellent and our server was very nice/knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend Tidal for any meal and occasion!
Made reservations for 6, thinking 1 hour 30 minutes would be enough time before heading to an 8pm concert. We were mistaken, it took 40 minutes to get cheese we ordered as an appetizer, and didn’t receive our meal until an hour after ordering. We had to cancel and leave hungry to the concert since the food didn’t come until 7:30!!!! Staff was unapologetic. Will never return!
Really enjoyed our dining experience at Tidal. The food was very good, but as other diners have commented, it is expensive and the portions are very small. Logan was our server and his service was excellent.
Excellent service provided by Melissa. Exceptional food. Great night with my husband! love the place!
My wife and I have been here in the past and had a great overall experience. Something has changed. Food was different. Ribeye overcooked. Didnt like the scallops. Server seemed inexperienced. Drinks were great and dessert was awesome.
Had the chef's tasting menu and it was fantastic! Wonderful experience and we will order it again.
Amazing service and food selections! We were celebrating an anniversary and they made our evening one to remember forever. I highly recommend this place for a date night or special occasion.
Environment is great. No complain on the service. Food is on the salty side. Price goes with the marvelous view.
Amazing service, view and food! We came for restaurant week. The coconut soup, salmon, and chocolate cake were all perfect. Also loved the wine pairing by our awesome server.
This is San Diego restaurant week so we decided to give Tidal a try. The food was excellent. The service was wonderful. I had the vegetarian options which were fantastic given that they were not on the regular menu. The vegetables were crisp and the quinoa was great. My husband had the lobster coconut soup which he loved. The chocolate coconut cream cake was the perfect end to the meal. Rich, decadent and moist. Sitting out on the patio overlooking the bay was fantastic. Would definitely go back.
Wow, what a treat. We haven't been to Tidal since they revamped the menu.
The food was AMAZING. What a wonderful and unique flavor profile. It reminded us of the offerings we had in Maui. A high end menu with an island twist. Super tasty.
Great for date night, special occasions, etc. You can't miss.
Great food and service, although not much choice if you are staying on vacation island without a car. Wine is a little pricey. Deck seating and view was awesome.
We went for brunch, the crab fried rice is phenomenal -- better than Eddy V's! The carnitas benedict and biscuits and gravy were also so very tasty. The new chef knows what he's doing!
We were staying at the hotel, and heard great things about the food. It was great food, nothing too fancy in my opinion. Great views of Mission Bay from the seats.
Let me start by saying it was an expensive flop.
The ambiance by the water, overlooking the bay is pretty, but to be honest not memorable.
It is seriously over priced for what is offered. No idea what some raved about ....
They charge you for the bread that's usually offered free in other restaurants of this price point. Must say though the pineapple butter accompanying the bread was delicious.
My halibut entrée was soooo dry (it even tasted a bit burned) that I had to send it back. The waitress graciously took it away & and made sure the replacement scallops I ordered were brought to me quickly. The scallops were good, well seasoned & cooked perfectly, but it was nothing exceptional.
My husband's scallops were plated so badly it looked like someone dropped the sauce but couldn't be bothered to replate !!
The children's meals were $17+ & when we asked if the mashed potato side (for the the chicken) could be replaced with a little pasta, the answer was no, but we could order the buttered pasta for an additional $17. Really ??
We didn't bother staying for dessert as nothing on the menu inspired us.
Overall, if you are a foodie skip this experience. You won't be missing anything.
