The service was quick and got our food at a timely fashion. Our waiter was helpful and tried to accommodate us as much as possible.
The atmosphere was very relaxed, we were 1 of 3 parties there, and the only table there when we left. Very nice place and very empty on usually busy nights, like Saturday, which we like. The butterleaf salad was a favorite. Their cocktails got rave reviews from those who drank them, too. They have some very comfortable seating, especially the couches by the fireplace. The chairs though are not so great for sitting in. Choose a booth or couches for comfort. Their bread is delightful, you have to ask for it if you want it, they don’t just bring it to you. I’ve been there a few times now and tried a variety of things. I didn’t love the short ribs, and the cheeseburger is to die for. I usually love short ribs and am neutral about cheeseburgers. All of the deserts were delicious, and I’m not really into deserts other than chocolate. I liked their chocolate torte quite a lot.
I've been here several times now, and while I love the atmosphere and generally like the food, I'm starting to have my doubts about the service. On this night, the restaurant was half-empty but we had to wait nearly ten minutes for our drinks to arrive. That's just not acceptable.
Our appetizer, billed as ceviche, was far from traditional: most of the typical ingredients were there, but you had to "assemble" each bite. Cumbersome - and without the simple pleasure that I associate with ceviche. Way to take an awesome traditional dish and over-complicate it...
On the up side, both of us enjoyed our entrees: the free-range chicken and the seafood risotto (though the latter was overpriced).
We had a very wonderful experience. The steak with pureed turnips were incredible, steak cooked perfectly and the turnips were silky, sweet and elegant. The broth of the cioppino was clear and light but perfectly balanced with a nice array of shellfish, salmon and white fish. Beet salad was also delish as were the avocado deviled eggs. The wine list was fantastic and the bourbon cocktail was delicious. The town of Tiburon is just delightful. I highly recommend this place!
Service was extremely slow, it is probably because we were using groupon and the gratuity was already set so the server really doesn't care.
We loved the feel of the place. Very nice and cozy. Food was good. Dave the host was the best part. Awesome, super friendly guy. Service is fine yet not quick. My friend also never got the glass of wine he ordered. We did not mention it though. We will be back as it also seems like a good happy hour spot.
The wait staff is not trained at their job. The greeter doesn't have a clue on how to great diners. The waiter delivered the wine, provided enough wine for the taster and then filled the other glass. That was the end of the wine service.
Its really sad because the food is quite good but the staff doesn't provide for an enjoyable evening. I must say though that there is one waiter that is fantastic, and you should ask for Gustavo.
Using a Groupon isn't the ideal way to dine ,savor all that this restaurant prepares. None the less, it was good, we knew dishes we liked, portions were good, but as Groupon users, our portions,vegetable array, and a few other details were different than they were in past without Groupon. Service was exceptional, nice overall feeling. We will return, minus a Groupon. It is especially lovely outdoor dining...well staged, sidewalk privacy, umbrellas and lots of energy.
We were over charged by $10 for a cognac and asked our waiter to fix the bill, giving him my cc back with the bill.
He never fixed the bill and “accidentally” kept
my card. We did not notice this until we were home and had to drive back to retrieve the card .
As far as our food, the place has definitely changed, but not for the better. Very small portions and too many different things going on in the entrees- our fish had multiple flavors that did not blend - citrus, and puréed broccoli stood out - weird. The chocolate mouse was lumpy.
It was my husbands birthday, which was both on the reservation note and mentioned on arrival,and not a thing was said or done
Dinner was decent. Nothing spectacular. Service was very good.
I have enjoyed a fine burger here in the past, but had to send my medium rare cheeseburger back for the cheese to be melted. It came back medium and the cheese had practically disappeared. Pretty tasty, but tough to have to keep asking for the basics. My colleague said her fish tacos were OK. It is a shame, because this is a nice location and atmosphere.
Oh, and on top of that, they tried to get us to sit in the back of a nearly empty restaurant.
Christmas morning 2017 our family was excited to meet at the Tiburon Tavern for breakfast. We had booked a reservation on Open table for
our party. Coming from Sonoma county, we were 10 minutes late for our reservation, we called from our car and someone from the restaurant told my wife it would not be a problem.
The eighty year old male host was a bit grumpy and showed us to a bar style table close to the entrance of the restaurant. He seamed to think we were a "walk up". My wife reminded him we had a reservation and we would like a better table which there was an abundance of. The Host would not accommodate us with our request which was disappointing. Our waiter "hurried us" to order and commented to our party that the kitchen staff was irritated that the restaurant was continuing to seat patrons for breakfast? So much for ambiance. Our party was not cared for, the food was a disappointment for Tiburon. We had a expectation of so much more on Christmas.
Chefs have come and gone at this restaurant, but we were pleased with what this chef is doing.
I would encourage people who have drifted away, because of spotty food or service in the past,
to return and give this place a new try.
Beautiful setting outside on the terrace. Nice menu. Service is inconsistent but well-meaning. They used to offer a pre fixed lunch menu which I was sorry to find is no longer available. I will return again.
I would definitely go back again. Great outdoor ambiance. Fun place to hang out with friends.
The noise level was horrible with little children running and screaming around with no parental restraint. The service was extremely slow at all levels. Some food okay but definitely not worth going back for.
Very enjoyable evening. I have dined there many times. I am never disappointed.
An absurd $6 for 3 rolls I could have bought at Safeway for 50 cents each, who the hell does the pricing at this place, get real, realign your food costs reflect that in menu prices and don't insult the customer with an outrageous charge.
Tiburon Tavern would do better if it just had bar food. They seem to be trying to go upscale and it does not seem to be working. To me, it is a hotel bar with a restaurant that should go back to the basics.
Great service and ambiance
We live in Tiburon and try to support the local restaurants because it benefits all of us. We have had many good meals (not great but good -given that we are in Tiburon where no restaurant offers really great meals) the biggest problem at the Tavern seems to be wait staffing/management and consistent staffing and management turnover. Either there are enough servers and runners but all are ill trained and therefore not effective or there are not enough and service is dreadful, or no runners at all and food just sits in the kitchen waiting for overworked waiters to get it out. They never seem to be able to staff up enough for holidays or sunny weekends when the restaurant is slammed. Is it a combination of the kitchen not being able to handle the food orders, lack of food runners, inexperienced waiters or poor management, or perhaps a combination of all the above? We waited over 45 minutes on an early Sunday evening for 2 salads, an order of deviled eggs and a poke dish. There was absolutely no acknowledgement from wait staff regarding an apology for the time it took, we actually didn't see our waiter after water and drinks arrived. With 2, by then, starving children at the table, we finally found a manager to let him know we had to leave. At that point he said our appetizers were coming out "right now" and begged us to stay and he would comp our meal. I told him is wasn't about the money but rather the dreadful lack of service, we were emotionally "done" and left for an alternative restaurant (which served us fairly rapidly, thankfully). Ironically, I had been at the Tavern earlier in the week with my daughter and had 2 salads and 2 fish entrees, served rapidly and tasted very good. Sadly, this is the second time over the course of 2 years that we have had to walk out of the restaurant due to the service. Same problem, different team. The bar area seems to be the only highlight. The bartender makes a good drink and manages the bar fairly closely.
Service was a little slow, but the food was very decent (we'd had so-so experiences in the past, but this time the fish tacos were okay and the flank steak was yummy). The surprise bonus was the singer/guitarist who gave a lovely performance and has an exceptional voice.
We have been here a few times in the past and it has always been just OK. Not bad but not that good. we were a bit put off by the musician that played that night as well. We are big fans of live music too. For the food, we started with the Caesar salad which was devoid of all flavor and character. It was followed by the Airline Chicken for her and Flat Iron Steak for myself. Both dishes were pretty good with the use of Padron Peppers, but they were used in both dishes which I found odd. However, I did not find the Steak itself appropriately seasoned or flavorful.
Great imagination with flavors and seasoning by the chef. Played combinations were excellent. Crab Fritters Ap was melt in your mouth delicious with Aioli dip.
Restaurant indoors was very quiet for a Saturday, but could not eat outdoors due to music too loud; several others indoors felt same way. Could not hold a conversation. Same for Sunday breakfast; loud music at breakfast at 10 am?
But again, wonderful breakfast choices. Recommend the Pastrami hash and eggs.
We have often dined at Tiburon Tavern for several years. The management if awful and the service is always poor. It's not consistent, food is o.k. sometimes and when it does not meet standards the manager often argues with you over a stale bun. The last two times we have been there it was a major disappointment. The only reason we would go back is for the happy hour and scenery.
Both times, the service was impeccable, and the food came out in a reasonable time , beautifully presented and tastefully done. On one occasion, the order was mistakenly taken, and the amazing manager /owner immediately took over. Everyone was happy. The atmosphere, food, wine selection service, everything was noteworthy.
Good, no complaints really.
Great food and great service. I made a reservation for two and the hostess had reserved two tables for us to choose from because she was concerned we wouldn't want to be too close to the live music.
We do a Girls Nite Out once a month, and have been doing this for 3 years. We go to a different restaurant every month. This was one of the nicest. We sat outside, our reservations were taken promptly, the service was great (the women in the group liked our waiter so much we over tipped him above the 20% tip), and because we made it in time for happy hour and a Wednesday, it was the best prices we have had in our three years of doing this. My husband and I will definitely be back, and I am sure that I will be able to get the group back there. Thank you very much.
My family enjoyed our food. We had the quinoa salad, mac n cheese, crabb fritters, a seafood and steak dish. We ate outside and it was very nice, comfy and dog friendly. We were on vacation but we could see it is a popular neighborhood haunt.
Lovely outdoor seating. Great hamburgers and ahi poke tuna. Would come again!
This was my first time at the Tavern and I'm looking forward to doing it again! BTW, you should add "Service" to the list of reasons to recommend the restaurant. Our waitperson was exceptional (as were the 3 other staff members who helped out!)
Great location with validated parking at the hotel. Friendly, prompt, and attentive service. Very good food. We would certainly return!
The service was not good, at all. I received a very dirty glass (3 different lipstick stains), and the server didn't even notice until I called it out. Half of the dishes did not come out for a substantial amount of time and again the server did not notice. We asked for 3 soup spoons to share a dish -- we were given 1 regular and 2 teaspoons. Lastly, after all that, we were STILL charged a 20% service charge for being a large group. In this case we certainly should have been given the choice on how much to leave.
I always enjoy this place so I like introducing it to my friends. I especially like the desserts and the location. Even though it's not on the waterfront, it's just a short walk away.
We decided to give Tiburon Tavern a try for Mother's Day. But instead of leaving in a happy mood after the meal, everyone felt like we needed to go someplace else to lift our spirits.
So let's start from the beginning. We ordered drinks and they took a good 15 minutes to arrive. Not exactly a blistering pace. The appetizers we ordered, the guacamole and the salmon toast, we're probably the best things we ate. The toast was pretty good and the guac was perfectly acceptable. Not what I expected for $13, but decent.
The entrees were a train wreck. My wife's scallops were cold when they arrived and were extremely bland. The bland trend continued with the halibut I ordered and the chicken one of my daughters was served. All of these meals were served with grilled vegetables that were almost impossible to cut with a knife. Another one of my daughters had the steak which was pretty good but for $36, I was expecting something a little better. And the fingerling potatoes served with it were completely devoid of any seasoning.
One of my daughters ordered the mac n' cheese starter as her main course and that seemed to be a hit with everyone. I was going to try it but I felt everyone else needed the food more.
By the time our server came to ask us if we wanted desert, we had waited far too long to even consider it. We stopped at Whole Foods on the way home and everyone was happy.
Service was not great, our waiter was not attentive whatsoever. Hardly checked on us and didn't seem to know the menu well when my husband asked for some recommendations. Same with wine menu. Ambience was ok and appetizers were good, but probably wouldn't go back.
Good food and nice atmosphere. The server was very friendly.
I keep trying this place as I like the atmosphere, but no dish is consistent or even very good. Heard they hired a new chef....does not seem like it. Why can this restaurant not make a chicken sandwich that is consistently good? Tomatoes were overripe, bun fell apart as I was eating and chicken overcooked.
