Thunder Grill Ratings and Reviews
We selected Thunder Grill in Union Station based on it central location to multiple job sites. The personnel were extremely accommodating and our meals were served very fast. Overall, the food was good however the chicken my Chicken Tostada was overdone and a little tough. Otherwise everyone enjoyed themselves and complimented the food and atmosphere.
Food is processed, mediocre. Three burgers order medium, were served rare. Nachos were Sysco -a nuked lump of processed meat, soggy tortilla chips and cheese doused in sour cream and canned jalapenos. No free refills on 8 oz., heavily iced soft drinks.
Thunder Grill has a great location and far more room than you might expect. The service for lunch on a Thursday was quick and friendly. The food is predictable - othing special but there is plenty of choice. It's a good choice for meeting up in Union Station.
I came here for a business lunch and couldn't have been more pleased - the menu had many options, the staff was really friendly and the ambiance was perfect for what we needed. i would definitely return for a happy hour with some appetizers or another lunch!
The Union Station location couldn't be beat for convenience for an business dinner with people from all around the area. At my request, the host gave us a table in a very area. Staff was very good at attending to each person, even though the six diners each arrived separately. The waiter was very good at refilling, following up on requests, and offering to take more orders. Since I didn't know all the guests, I was pleased that the menu could accommodate a variety of tastes and dietary constraints. The food was well-prepared and moderately priced. I had eaten here before by myself or with a friend, and the food was consistent every time.
We were disappointed to find a limited menu as a result of "kitchen issues," but all in our group of 13 found satisfaction in their food choices. Union Station under construction, so the scenic view was obstructed- worth a trip back when construction is finished. Nice bartender and very accommodating waitstaff who divvied up our bill into nine separate checks.
My family and I were there to celebrate my wife's birthday and enjoy union station. The staff recognized the reason we were there and the fact that we had kids so we were seated upstairs away from the vibrant bar crowd. Service was great as was the food. Felt it was good value for everything we received. Thanks
This was my third visit to Thunder Grill. It's very convenient to meet with colleagues who work on or around Capitol Hill, convenient to the Metro, and the food is quite good and the noise level is reasonably sane. It's not terribly expensive either, which is a plus. Overall, I'm pleased with this restaurant and I'll be back.
Our server was great and the food was really good. The whole place shakes lightly when the trains go underground and it gives the place character. It is in the train station after all. I like the fact that you can sit outside in the train station or inside in a normal restaurant setting. Fun on both sides, depends on the day and how you are feeling or the group you are with.. Try the brisket... it is very tender and tasty.
Not a 'fine dining' establishment. A bar menu split between mediocre Mexican dishes (nachos, tacos, etc.) and 'designer' burgers (yes, there is a 'Mexican" burger). Within 200 yards, there are a number of better choices for either fare. Mediocre food served indifferently.
The location is convo eminent for travels or guests who don't want to spend time trying to find parking. The food was very good. It was pretty loud so in out attempt to take a more quiet table, we felt like out server forgot us...service was a bit slow. Won't stop us from trying it again.
Easy to get to available metro and parking. Good place to meet for lunch if one party is in the
Hill area and one is coming by car or metro. Also, good size place so good availability. Food is satisfactory-- it's in the train station. It's more about location.
There is a great buzz when walking into the restaurant. The excitement of being in a historic landmark building across from the US Capitol makes you feel like you are living history. The servers are smiling and dashing around the restaurant with customers telling jokes over the delicious meals. We had a sampling of food Ceviche was awesome, very fresh, Pork Sliders were moist and delicious, Fajitas were sizzling good, and the Salads are a fresh and tasty.
I met a friend here for lunch. We ordered cokes. the waitress asked if we wanted another, and we said sure - thinking this was the typical 'bottomless' soda at many hamburger/sandwich places. Were we shocked when we got the bill for $4 per soda! It almost doubled the bill. I will never go back there.
THe restaurant is in a corner of the fabulous Union Station, so not only is it well-located but the architectural space is terrific. THe menu is limited, mostly burgers, a few salads and a handful of Tex-Mex inspired entrees. Our lunch (second time) was good but nothing notable. But the service is erratic; the Maitre D seemed upset to have to deal with customers and silently motioned us to our table, the floor under our table had a dirty napkin and some french fries. The kitchen is OK and the location is great....all is needs is competent management.
