Thunder Burger & Bar Ratings and Reviews
We were pleasantly surprised at how much all loved the food and low key atmosphere at Thunder Burger. I had a Kobe burger that is by far the best burger I've had. Even the kids raved about the garlic dusted fries, sliders and chicken. Awesome original brews too. Perfect find in Georgetown.
Decent food. Waited too long for waitress to come over and then even longer for drinks. Burgeres were good and the side salad was excellent and a very pleasant surprise for a burger joint. Management did not seem to have the right staffing levels at the time we were there. Nice beer selection
We paid a visit here for DC Restaurant Week. The service and decor were great, everything was very clean. Most of us got the three-course Restaurant Week deal; I opted for the Thunder Burger with bacon, Swiss, and tomato. Everyone liked their food. Only negative? A bit overpriced.
The server described a warm pink center for a burger, it was raw for one of my associates. My burger was excellent but service needs to improve. My server was very distant and not attentive to my party. I do not agree with a service charge of 18% for mediocre service.
Interesting menu and great food. We had a reservation and were seated promptly--place was crowded. I am a vegan and found lots of possible menu items--protabella mushroom burger and sweet potato fries were great. My companions had a different aray of burgers and they were all pleased as well.
Today I had both a burger and a drink. I had the Bison burger which was incredibly flavorful and juicy- I didn't have to add any condiments.
What I didn't expect was their incredible drink menu- for $11 I got a drink worthy of more...hibiscus syrup, nude vodka, St Germaine- it was delish. Kudos to their mixologist.
The tables are kinda tight, and if it's a busy Saturday you'll have to accept whatever they give you.
Overall though very good and I will be returning soon.
This place has great burgers and an excellent beer list. Some menu items seem a little overpriced (6 wings for $10...), but if you stick to the burgers, you're good to go. It gets a little loud, and the kitchen can be a little off on occasion, but for the most part, a great place.
Thunder Burger & Bar was pretty much what you expect when you make a reservation there--a kind of trendy "gourmet" burger place with a fun atmosphere, good burgers, and decent (but not spectacular) fries. Between my two friends and I, we tried the bison and kobe beef--all of which was prepared very well, juicy and flavorful. However, what was disappointing was that they were not prepared for our 8PM reservation (we were sat around 8:20) with the host staff acting snarky and cavalier about that fact--even when we were patient and understanding about having to wait. Luckily, our server was so nice that he almost made up for careless and borderline rude attitudes of the host and hostess.
Prompt service. Good food. Great music selection. Very accomodating letting dining room guests partake of happy hour specials. That is rare. This is my first choice for good affordable food with good service and a great beverage selection whenever I plan on dining in Georgetown.
I will not be returning to this establishment. The bartender was the most unengaging individual I have ever encountered whose job is to give good service and receive a good tip. The calamari looked like it was cooked in very old grease and I did not eat it. The bartender didn't inquire why I did not eat it he just took it and threw it away (yes I was still charged for the untouched calamari). The drinks were fine but the bartender made the whole experience uncomfortable as if he did not want anyone at his bar. It wasn't only me, I watched as he robotically moved across the bar area. The place and happy hour menu looked appealing, but the bartender ruined the whole feel of the place.
Great food.. Only problem was they were understaffed. We waited 30 minutes for our check (we couldn't find our waiter!) and never got a water refill after the first fill-up. It was a Friday night, so they might have been better off with another waiter or two on the floor. Food is excellent though - just wish we had been given a dessert menu at some point!
I have mixed feelings on Thunder Burger. The food is delicious and inventive. The elk burger is amazing and the falafel with cucumber dill sauce is a great vegetarian option. However, the service is sort of lackluster. After taking our order, our server came back to tell us that they were out of Jack Daniels for a Jack and Diet Coke. OK. No biggie. Then minutes later they told us that they were out of the tuna burger that I ordered. So I don't know if there's a lack of communication between front of house and back of the house, but those guys need to talk more. Also, please crank the a/c up when it's 95 outside at 8 p.m. Again, the food is amazing. There's just some minor quirks to the service.
I love a good burger and Thunder Burger has the best one around. It is delicious. My husband and I each had a cheeseburger customized to our tastes and enjoyed every bite. As sides, we ordered the regular french fries and the sweet potato fries. Both are cooked just right and tasted great. Their burgers never disappoint and the style of the place is rock eclectic.
I always enjoy coming to this restaurant. The burgers are outstanding and I had a number of other selections on the menu that have been very good. The beer selection is very broad and the prices are reasonable. It's a great find in Georgetown for a night out with friends and family.
