Three Ravens Restaurant & Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
The food was delicious, the wine pairing wasn't great as in some cases the wine pairing was set to pair with a selection of 3 food types, so it wasn't a good match, except for the main course. Also the atmosphere wasn't great as you're in a section of a large hall, used for as a buffet. The views are spectacular of course. Overall a good experience.
Three Ravens offers fantastic food in a very unique setting! My husband and I rolled into town after a long delayed flight and the staff were very helpful to allow us to push our reservation back by an hour so that we could still experience this little gem. The food and service were fantastic and we will definitely recommend/return!
Dined here for a birthday dinner on Sunday, January 28th and had a great time! Greeted at the door and seated promptly, got our pick of the tables. Lindsey was our server and she was superb! She guided us through the menu while still catering to our needs/preferences. I had the beef, boyfriend had the sablefish, both excellent in taste, presentation, and overall quality. For dessert, she included a bright sparkler candle for my birthday and made it so so special. She really made the whole experience!
We have dined at the Three Ravens on a number of occasions, and have found them to be consistently delightful experiences. We were warmly greeted, the meal appealed to the eyes, nose and tongue, and our waitress knew the right balance of engagement without intrusion.
High ratings and reviews and the promise of fine dining took us there for a family bonding evening.
The food presentation/ appearance was lovely.
The portion size of fish was minuscule, with an over abundance of greens: the issue is the flavour combinations which were confusing to the palate and very unappealing.
Radish in the pineapple salsa with Sablefish - terrible combination.
Savoy cabbage and pineapple salsa with pork: again, very lovely thought but didn’t translate into anything tantalizing. The pork belly piece was a lump of pure fat.
The duck terrine - beautifully presented.
Truffle spread - not good for terrine period! lemon curd out of rind - bitter more than lemony.
The pickled grapes were way too sour.
And the mustard was the only taste that paired with the dish.
Regret we cannot recommend. The meat was excellent, The seafood not so good very bland. The service was ok not great felt like it was a training school. It was a slow night for the restaurant only 3 or 4 tables . Kitchen staff very Loud extremely poor language carried to tables. This is not acceptable in any dining establishment !! . When I asked to speak to a manager or owner was advised no manager on site I was given his cellphone but no answer and no call back. Advised there was no owner as it was government owned. We went back to the Fairmont for desert was excellent . Do not normally leave any poor feedback but felt we had too here. This was worst anniversary dining experience we have had in years.
We normally love Three Ravens and have been dining here for a few years. This’s review relates specifically to the New Years Eve 2017 Dinner Prix Fixe menu. We were incredibly disappointed and have reconsidered whether we will ever recommend this resto to others.
To summarize, the items were cold, lacked effort, overly game-heavy, and felt "dialled-in" by the kitchen. For $120.00 per person, I could have eaten much better elsewhere. Please bear with me as I go through the menu.
We added the $45.00 pp wine pairing which was good.
The amuse-bouche was a dense, dry piece of sturgeon fish with very fishy and overpowering caviar on top.
My first course of mushroom soup was good. My fiancé's First course of sablefish was cold, slightly undercooked and lacked flavour.
For second course, my squash dish was good but lukewarm. My fiancé ordered the cold chicken and duck terrine, which was overly dense and over-salted.
For the main, my fiancé's Arctic char was bland, dry, and rubbery. My vegetarian course of grilled tofu was a refrigerator-cold piece of tofu atop very gooey black rice. The smashed potato accompaniments were over salted and so tough they were difficult to chew. Thumbs down.
Dessert was also disappointing. The chocolate cake was bone dry and dull, and the pumpkin bundt cake turned out to be oily mini muffins.
The last insult was an automatic gratuity of $60.00 being added onto our bill. Remember that this was a prix fixe menu for food and drink. No wine pairings were selected by a sommelier for us nor were the courses crafted and romanced by the servers. And we were a table of 2.
I don't know if they were going to be short on kitchen staff for NYE, or if they simply prepped early in the day, but the food was in no way made fresh nor was it worth the $120.00 price tag. I've given them two stars because our server was so nice.
Please do better, Three Ravens - we really want to go back and have been recommending you to friends for years.
One of the best dinners we’ve had. Terrific service, what would have been a stunning view had it not been in the middle of a snowstorm and incredibly complex, yet perfectly crafted meals. Not cheap but well worth the expense to experience a menu like that. A number of people have mentioned the lighting and/or ambiance - it’s not cozy and the lighting could be more appealing but the overall modern aesthetic is what it is and compliments the food.
We were in Banff for a family ski vacation and ate out every night. Dinner at Three Ravens was by far the best meal that we had. The entrees were very creative and combined several flavors and spices in the sauces. The presentation of the food was superb! It was a great find and we highly recommend eating at Three Ravens if you are a foodie or just want outstanding food!
Honestly the food was delicious but the fact that their was no parking and we had to walk quite far to even get to the elevator. I was not impressed with and the restaurant is very plain not anything extraordinary. The view was alright although it was night so that may have made a huge difference. I would personally not go to dinner here again and as it was our first date together as a couple that we were saving it was disappointing.
We had a fabulous dinner at this elegant secluded restaurant. They have a nice wine menu and tasting portions are an option so we were able to sample a nice selection of wine. The food ranked in my top 5 for 2017 and our best in Banff. Really delicious. Great staff as well. Highly recommend.
Excellent food, creative and beautiful on the plate! There was an extreme lack of ambiance, however, which is something you would hope for when making an evening of dinner out. The restaurant could use a lot more warmth ... a modern fireplace in the middle ... something! Because of the surrounding buildings, you feel as tho you are sampling food prepared in a culinary institute and in their cafeteria. Otherwise, a delicious dining experience for our party of four foodies!
It is very hard to find restaurants that can accommodate the dietary needs of my wife. We can usually find either gluten free or dairy free, Three Ravens had them both! The greeting, the place, the ambience, attention and service was unbelievable! Chloe was our server and she did and splindid job making suggestions and explaning the ingredients of each plate! The food was amazing, the plates remained in their escence without changes needed to be done to accommodate the dietary needs. The dessert! There is dessert GF, DF! We celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary in Canada and this restaurant really impressed us, it made our whole celebration very special! It was the cherry on top of the sundae! We recommend it blind folded, no doubts!!! Whenever we are back we will go back to Three Ravens and enjoy a fabulous dinner! Thank you so so much! Awesome experience! We will never forget!!
Classic creative food, if that makes any sense. The portions are huge. Our server was very friendly. And the view!!
The only strange thing is that it's in the same space with a $29 buffet place... The place feels and smells like a school cafeteria. I would prefer a bit more separation.
We were the only customers that night - a Wednesday- there was a snowstorm and it was low tourist season. We liked most of our order, but found the dessert "old and dry/hard - obviously not fresh. Tried the MacLab Bistro and loved the food atmosphere and prices much more - so ate there for the rest of our stay at the Banff Centre - we were attending a conference.
You can walk about 25 minutes from "downtown" or take a $20 cab ride. It's definitely worth it. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls reveal the breath-taking view as you walk into this glass enclosed restaurant inside the dining hall of the Banff Learning Center. Some have unfairly compared it to a cafeteria (because it is at a learning center?). The setting is definitely Scandinavian, with open spaces, clear maple furnishings, and a modern vibe. Arrive early for your reservation and relax at the bar for a cocktail or wine. Stroll around the floor and you get the feeling your in a modern art museum, with paintings, photos, sculpture and textural art pieces; definitely not a community college cafeteria! Stop by what looks like a wine refrigerator and see the micro-greens the that are so fresh they're growing right up to the time Chef puts them on your plate. We ordered a wide variety from this seasonally inspired menu and were not disappointed in any of choices. Arrive hungry, because there is a lot to sample. Sharing would be a great way to experience the variety of the menu. We toasted the sunset with coffee and dessert, capping our Banff holiday with another great meal. Visit The Three Ravens; a top notch choice in Banff.
Food, service and wine selection were amazing. Unfortunately, we couldn't wait to leave the restaurant and go for wine somewhere else. The room is attached to a cafeteria and divided by only a glass wall. The lighting is as bright as can be and music was very quiet.
We typically enjoy having a bottle during dinner and one after for special occasions, with the lighting being so bright and music so quiet we felt very uncomfortable. We heard every conversation being had in the restaurant, even over the loud crashes from someone stacking plates in the cafeteria.
on the plus side, we were in and out in 45 minutes so the bill was substantially cheaper than I was planning.
We were so very impressed with the whole experience, amazing views, wonderful food and service.
Table was ready at the allocated time and the menu was ably described, food looked and tasted wonderful. So wonderful we booked for the following night. Having eaten in some amazing restaurants right round the world, this cooking was superb. Having walked the main drag in Banff it was worth it to go up the hill to the Banff Centre, an arts complex for this dining experience. Top tip do BOOK.
We saved our meal here for our last night in Banff and it was a good decision. We've now been in Canada for 3 weeks and have enjoyed some fantastic food, but this meal was the best for sure.
The service was excellent, the view is special and the food was a delight - every single course including the amuse bouche.
We recommend a meal at this restaurant very highly.
