Thomas Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Closed For Remodeling!
We had made reservations through OpenTable for lunch today at Thomas Restaurant on 39th Street in Westport near State Line. It is a minute 30 drive from our house to get there. But upon arrival, low & behold the front door sign read “Closed for Remodeling”!! There was NO indication of that on their web site OR on OpenTable. We were not happy. There also was no indication on the sign as to an expected re-open date.
At least the management could post a notice on their web site that they are Closed for Remodeling, AND have been courteous enough to notify OpenTable not to accept reservations!
We will probably try Thomas Restaurant once they re-open, but we will definitely call first before driving in vain. (At least Room 39 down the street was open and they have great food.)
When I arrived for my birthday dinner with 9 people, the windows were covered over and there was a sign on the door that said "closed for remodeling". In the past, the food, ambiance, etc... has been really good. I went to their website before booking the table and it didn't say anything about being closed. That would have been helpful. We had to scramble to find somewhere else to go with kids in tow.
Arrived for our July 9th 7pm reservation only to discover restaurant is closed for remodeling? We had made plans for lovely anniversary dinner. Restaurant does not respond to emails and voicemail mailbox is full and not taking any more messages. Would leave zero stars if I could.
Made reservation on OpenTable, received verification of reservation via email, arrived at the restaurant Saturday evening and found it was "Closed for Remodeling". I hope this is not the dreaded "remodeling" that never ends and means the restaurant is going out of business. We have always enjoyed dining here. Nonetheless, while we were parked at the restaurant we saw at least four other parties arrive at the door of the restaurant only to see the closed sign and leave. OpenTable should have been notified by the restaurant that reservations were not being honored.
We made reservations for dinner at 6:00 tonight. When we arrived, a sign on the door said it was closed for remodeling. How did we even get to place a reservation? So disappointing! We drove an hour to get there and had to find somewhere else to eat. Pretty frustrating!
Went there for our Anniversary. Pan Seared Scallops for appetizer were excellent. Duck Breast was very good as was the spring salad. My wife had the mussels and a Ceasar salad, both of which were very good. We had a bottle of wine - all of their wines were reasonably priced.
Hoseth was an awesome server we have never had bad service. The food is always consistent in perfect the only thing that I would not recommend is the steak but we have had everything else on the menu and never been disappointed The drinks are creative delicious and strong
Monday nights can be slow just about any part of town and I was happy to find Thomas open for business. I'd heard good things and looked forward to the evening. We had an early reservation for four people at 6:45pm. The place was practically empty when we arrived, including an absence of staff. We waited a good while before anyone approached us and offered "pick a seat". The menu reads well but the food does not have a lot of imagination. The wine list is uninspired, clearly geared by price. I had the duck which was prepared perfectly. My dinner partners had a spinach salad and the daily risotto--the spinach salad looked like something from Applebee's and the risotto was just ok. Other nearby restaurants have same price point but offer better service, ambience, wine selection, and more imaginative and creative cuisine.
Have dined at Thomas a number of times and have never been let down by the food - the food is great but everyone should try their signature dish - the buttermilk chicken. It is amazing. We eat out often and have never had anything like it anywhere. It is our go-to meal at Thomas. That being said-great steaks, pork chops as well as burgers. They offer great appetizers - the cheese and fruit platter is a wonderful choice as well as the scallops.
A big shout out to Vince-who entertains at the piano-such a great talent and a wonderful voice! Enjoyed visiting with him and talking about music before his set!!! This place is such a gem!!!
A fun little place. Good for a group of friends, or a romantic night. Nice but not presumptuous. Began the night with radiohead as the sound track and ended with live piano music. Excellent unique food at a decent price. For those who want something nice but are also up for a bit of an adventure; this is the place for you.
Our group went on Monday evening. There were few patrons, service was slow to moderate and 2 of 3 bottles of selected wines on the menu were not in stock. The piano player was not perform that evening, so the noise level rating of moderate is skewed. The food was lackluster and far from "foodie rating". Should I try the venue again, it would be for a drink only during the time the pianist is in house. We were disappointed.
Was disappointed that there was no fish available for our dinner. Hadn't realized fish wasn't offered on Mon. night. Most of us ended up getting the beef tips...but most came cold or lukewarm...we expected it to be hot, or warm at least! And I'd asked that we needed something special for 2 birthdays. Nothing was offered, and we weren't even asked of we wanted the dessert menu. Was disappointed in pretty much everything, as I had been the one to recommend it, and no one in our party was blown away by their experience at Thomas.
And we were told the piano player would start at 7:00....when we left at 8:00, there was still no piano player. Could've been a better evening...
Everything about our experience was wonderful. Our server, Megan was THE BEST! She never rushed us and was extrememy attentive to our many questions. The food was superb. Megan recommended the scallops as an appetizer and they were scrumptious. Our entrees were perfectly prepared and delicious. You can't go wrong with this choice for dinner. And the piano player was terrific. I thought James Taylor was singing!!
The atmosphere was pleasant. Our server did a fine job. The unexpected treat was the piano player. His playing; as well as his singing were enjoyable. The menu had a nice selection of choices. We felt the prices were fair. I have already recommended it to friends.
We started coming to Thomas Restaurant about once a month for our date nights. The food is incredible - and this is coming from two foodies who rarely cook.
What we enjoy most though is Vince - the piano player. Its great to send him requests to see how he comes up with his piano version of our favorite songs.
We really enjoyed this experience. Waitress was very helpful. Piano player was really good and it was not to loud so you could enjoy listening or conversation. Colorful surroundings and great for people watching. Comfortable surroundings. Would go there again and recommend to others.
Thomas is definitely a great place to eat. The duck was wonderful with its cherry sauce. And the chocolate cake at the end was divine - and I'm not a big chocolate fan, but it was perfect. Nice menu choices. The restaurant would be good for a date, or dinner with friends or just with your spouse. Nice atmosphere, friendly service. I would definitely go back next time I'm in Kansas City.
We always have a wonderful experience here. The food is amazing and the service is great. My favorite part about coming here is the live music, and the atmosphere. Everything is so unique including the flavors in the vibrant mixed cocktails that are served.
Been here several times, previously loved it. After ordering drinks, we were told 4 of the appetizer options were unavailable due to a "busy Valentine's Day". No mention at that time that the menu itself was also out of steak, pork chops, seafood, and duck. Only options left were salad and chicken. The food was good, but very unimpressed with the service and lack of a menu. Also frustrating that we were not told several menu entree options would be unavailable until after we had ordered drinks and an appetizer. No discount offered, only an excuse.
Thomas is a quiet restaurant with great food. Martinis are extra special with blue cheese filled olives and the Happy Hour menu is worth investigating. Always a winner especially the Buttermilk Chicken. Our waitress was so helpful as my wife has a gluten allergy, she made a special martini for her. Our experience has always been one to go back for.
