My favorite restaurant in the tristate area!!
Exquisite European fine dining meal in all regards.
An incredible experience as always never fails to exceed expectations
Excellent food, on-point wait staff, with an old-school feel. Recommend for any special occasion.
Always come here for anniversary. Another wonderful experience.
A wonderful. Experience great. Service Amazing food. Went for a Romantic dinner and was so pleased. With everything the staff is amazing . so caring and warm. Amazing !!!!!
We always have a wonderful time at Henkelmann! Thomas and his team are a true class act, best restaurant in CT!
A great overall experience. The service and food were impeccable!
The menu is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for! The service, the food and the ambiance are all top tier.
While Henkelmann's has always been a local Greenwich favorite for over half a century, the food quality last night was a notch below its usual impeccable standards. We had never heard of "Vienna" oysters from Massachusetts, and while creamy and briny, the amount of grit and sand inside made us concerned that they weren't adequately washed. The special duck breast was unusually tough and gamey. The ambiance and service was outstanding, as usual, and without hovering or fawning, which can be off-putting.
The mandatory mask rule when not seated at a table was surprising, considering these restrictions have been lifted in CT for all vaccinated people. The only persons at risk are those who choose not to be vaccinated.
We will undoubtedly come back, but hope this helps Henkelmann's to bring their meal standards back up to perfection!
Food is prepared just right and the accompaniments on the entree were well paired with the proteins; sauces were nuanced and well executed. A bit more finesse in plating and a bit more imagination in the offerings and I'd have given it 5 stars. But the restaurant is a bit of a treasure simply because it's a trip backward to a more elegant, hushed dining experience. Not many places like this around anymore. The clientele mostly harks back to an older time too.
While there was nothing terribly wrong about our meal at Thomas Henkelmann, we expected more. First of all, we hung in the lobby waiting for someone to take us to our table. People came and went, yet it was a while before the right person showed up. Then, we were seated for a good 10 minutes or more before a member of the waitstaff came to our table. We had to suggest that we would like cocktails, which seemed to take a bit too long to appear. The menu appeared tired. Why would you serve Long Island duckling with apples and cranberries in May? There should have been a different preparation offered for the season or the dish should have been retired until the fall. The best of our three appetizers was the sweetbreads. The others, while just fine, seemed to be lacking in exciting flavor. Same with the main courses, which I am damning with faint praise -- they were fine and nothing more. For the cost of this meal, we expected flavors to sing. Somehow, it seemed like the menu needed an update as did the kitchen staff. This unexciting meal was a disappointment. We had been expecting much, much more.
A fine long-time restaurant that's hard to find these days whereby the combination of excellent food is served warmly and professionally in a lovely setting.
Best of the best in Fairfield always a superb, memorable dining experience.
We were very happy to return to Thomas Henkelmann after the pandemic. The ambience is outstanding, rooms segregated into seating arrangements that allow quiet conversation without feeling isolated. The staff maintains the atmosphere of serenity, presenting menus and servings with elegance and dignity. The wait staff are all people of experience, and their quiet, deferential attention to detail is unmatched. The food? Astonishing. Last night, my wife and I started with pea soup (with generous lashings of bacon and croutons applied at the table). She then had an incredible halibut dish. I had duck breast moulard on a bed of potato puree, with morel mushrooms and a mushroom sauce. It was delectable. Dessert was a chocolate soufflé with a melted chocolate center, candied pistachios with white chocolate shavings and pistachio ice cream. Our server, Luis, was always available and solicitous, keeping the wine and water glasses filled. But we never had a sense of being rushed. The evening made us feel like treasured friends, rather than customers. I must say that this is, in my opinion, the finest dining experience in the Hudson Valley and Fairfield County, and holds up very well against the best restaurants in Manhattan.
Super. Great service, food and ambiance.
Thomas Henklemann has been my/our go to celebratory place for over 20 years. Anniversarys, holidays, birthdays every year. We even had our wedding dinner here 5 years ago. The marvelous food, the professional caring staff and the ambiance are always the best! The new patio is both inviting and one we will enjoy all season.
We had a beautiful Mother's Day dinner, as we do every year.
This restaurant is fabulous from the bar service to the food and wine Stuart, we were very pleased. The food was delicious and served in good ambiance, we will certainly return.
Perfect as usual, even on a busy Mother’s Day!
It was a great meal and a wonderful experience for my wife and I.
Great celebratory dinner. Everything was great- food, service & ambience. Servers were great and I will return again.
We enjoyed a terrific meal and great service amidst a magical setting.
We returned here on a busy Saturday night. As usual, every aspect of dining was superb. We felt we were the only ones in the room - seeing the waiter at the appropriate times and otherwise never seeing him so we could engage in our conversations uninterrupted. The food was perfectly prepared and seasonal - soft shell crabs were tasty and the serving was generous.
Fabulous. As good a diner as I have had anywhere
It is always a top notch experience when we come here. We dined here tonight as an early Mother’s Day celebration and every single thing was flawlessly executed from the food to the service. We always immensely enjoy our meal and can’t wait to come back. Thank you so much.
Our party of five enjoyed an array of selections ad all were delicious. And the drinks are good too.
Beautiful place. The service was wonderful and the food was excellent. A class act. Not cheap but frankly not as expensive as I thought it would be. A keeper.
Excellent service! Great experience. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a genuine French cuisine experience
We arrived on time and were seated promptly. After that we became invisible. It was nearly twenty minutes before our drinks order was taken by someone who was clearly not our server. We’ve been to Homestead many time in the past fifty years and this was a very puzzling misstep on their part.
Expensive, but a really charming, wonderful place for a special occasion
Thomas Henkelmann has been our go-to special occasion restaurant. The service is always warm yet elegant and the food is fantastic.
Had a great experience. Our first time dining indoors since March of last year. Everything felt oddly normal despite all safety measures. Great service, great food. Having pre-dinner drinks on the balcony was also very enjoyable.
Always a very special place. Food is extraordinary and serve exemplary.
Divine. From first step through doorinto the beautiful Inn, a drink in Astley’s bar, through dinner that was perfection in all ways. Divine.
We have had on our "bucket list" having dinner at The Homestead. For some reason we simply never made it there. To celebrate a special occasion we made a reservation for April 21. It was relatively busy for a Wednesday and we were pleased to join the other diners that evening. We started with drinks in the cozy bar and enjoyed chatting with Astley, the bartender. He was attentive, prepared drinks as we liked and was a delightful man. When we were ready for dinner with started with soup (lobster bisque and pea) and each was flavorful and perfectly prepared. The portions were generous and we both said if the rest of the meal was as delicious and well-prepared as the first course, the night would be memorable. The main courses (crispy duck and salmon) were likewise perfectly prepared, flavorful and completely enjoyable. The profiteroles for dessert were among the best we have ever eaten. We were thoroughly pleased with our celebratory dinner, plan to return soon and would recommend The Homestead most highly to anyone who has yet to dine there. Mr. Henkemann is a very talented artist of gastronomy. Bravo!
