Thomas Henkelmann - Homestead Inn
Probably the finest high quality, well prepared refined dining venue in this part of the country.
It is not hype, just old fashioned French style American food prepared by a master chef and served in an exquisite setting in an Old Country Home, which in reality is in an Inn, partnered in the the Relais and Chateau umbrella chain of fine lodgings and restaurants..
Their duck and game dishes are superb, as well as the daily fish selection.
Old fashioned service and great wine selections.!
Food - excellent. Ambiance - Excellent. Service - Excellent
We left NYC for a few days R and R. Didn't expect to eat the same place
both days - but we like it so much, we stayed for the 2nd dinner
The food was delicious although on the pricey side. The service was impeccable and old school classic which made it a lovely dining experience.
Thomas Henkelmann's is a place we return over and over. It is elegant without being stuffy, a view back to days when every restaurant had a tablecloth and lovely tableware. The food is good and lovely to look at without being fussy or pretentious. The service is always attentive. The clientele is a variety of ages, so the room is not filled with either "gray hairs" or "hipsters." We'll be back for sure.
I usually have no complaints Everything this time was great except our meal took extra long before it was served after the appetizer. ( probably an hour-much too long and not typical but still a little disappointing) So were we given any consideration? no. I inquired and was offered a glass of champagne by waiter, but not the manager.
A very special place… If it weren’t so expensive I’d go more often :-)
The menu choices were great particularly the sweetbreads. Perfect location for an elegant birthday dinner.
Always a very nice place to have an enjoyable dinner.
Classic old school high end expensive food with a nice wine list.
Very relaxed and yet beautifully refined. Playful staff, yet very professional. Homerun!
Food was fresh and excellently prepared. Service was attentive but not overly so. Ambience was very nice, though I suspect the Spring time would be better when the garden is in bloom. It was not cheap, but it was excellent, and will return.
Great food, excellent service, perfect location for a business meeting or celebration
Wonderful atmosphere and ambience. Except for one appetizser all food was very good. Service outstanding
Very professional- a 1st class operation- staff is so professional- warm, cordial engaging. Ashley, Humberto, Pierre are excellent hosts. Food was excellent. The best restaurant in the area-- yes even much better that Blue Hill (over rated) and on a level with X2O
Highly recommend for very special occasions.
We celebrated our 49th Anniversary. Everything was perfect; beautiful place, very good food and great service. The desserts in particular were outstanding.
The setting, the cuisine, the ambiance, the service was exceptional
Service was atrocious, server apologetic but ineffective. We were seated for at least 15 mins. before we were offered a drink, and server recited specials before we even got menus ( we were told the menus were “around the corner” - were we supposed to find them ourselves?). Took probably another 15 mins. to get our drinks, they ran out of “rack of lamb” ( a regular menu item not a special) and a reorder of drinks took another 20 mins. This is a high end well established restaurant, we expect impeccable service.....
It is a bit tired. I have been there a few times over the years and always the same menu, but also it just looks tired. It needs to be refreshed. And the menu is a throwback to the 1970s and has not changed across the times I have been there. Rather heavy food, very reminiscent of the 70s and 80s. It just needs to be revitalized and refreshed and could do with an infusion of new ideas in the menu. A bit disappointing really.
I had not been there in years. Will go back again. Loved the grilled calamari and the seasonal Nantucket scallops were perfect. Well worth the $$$$
Service terrible. Food good but not outstanding. Very disappointing.
Outstanding cuisine, service and ambience
As always - great experience. Astley the bartender of 20 years rocks!
Outstanding as always. Perfection is the goal at this restaurant and they reach it. A one-of-a-kind experience!
Wonderful ambience, excellent and attentive service, and outstanding food.
A perfect setting for our family getting together over the holidays.
I was surprised that the rack of lamb was tough, but prepared as requested medium and still pink. The sauce with the lamb had separated. Overall this was a disappointment.
But the desert was sensational, cream, raspberry sorbet, merangue. Delicious!
It might have been an off night, so I would still recommend it to my friends.
An upscale evening in a charming location carefully watched over by Andy Warhol and Deborah Harry. Outside of the posh clientele and service there is a sense of another vibe, a more rebellious undertone if you will, creating a more comfortable atmosphere. The Fois gras was rich and subtle at the same time . Our Entrees were perfectly prepared and plated. The pheasant was especially succulent and I highly recommend it. Our meal was incredibly enjoyable up until this point. The praline Buche de Noel left us flat and slightly disappointed with its lack of texture variation and discernible flavor separations. Sweet tooth aside we had a truly lovely evening and were very well treated. I highly recommend the Homestead Inn for a charming meal on a date or as a social evening among friends or colleagues.
Finest restaurant in Connecticut. Always excellent food and the service is first class. You are welcomed
as soon as you step into the entry way and the warmth of the staff is with you your entire meal. The food is superb. I had asparagus soup this last visit and it surpassed my favorite soup at Guy Savoy in Paris. The restaurant is always a treat and always enjoyed.
We just loved everything about the whole experience. We have been there many times over the years and even though there are years in between , we always have an awesome meal with a delightful staff in an elegant setting.
Lovely evening. Totally professional service. Delicious food. Comprehensive and fairly priced wine list. An expensive dinner but at least you feel it’s worth it
This restaurant is always consistent and delicious. Old world charm. Excellent.
Always charming, relaxing and sophisticated. Unique to our area, we hope it lasts forever. Fine food presented in a artistical fashion by an attentive wait staff. Superlative ambiance makes for an relaxing evening.
What more can I say?? it was superb! I had the pheasant and enjoyed every bite.
Annual Christmas luncheon with friends from New York! The food is delicious , the service impeccable and the ambiance enchanting. Christmas is on display in all its grandeur in colors, lights, ornaments, garland and special Noel desserts. An afternoon we cherish.
Decorated very pretty for the holiday. The food and service was great. The wait staff very friendly. Nice size portion for lunch. Would definitely go again.
Wonderfully accommodating. Superb service. Exquisite food. A very special evening- especially during the holiday season. Never disappoints.
This is the most wonderful place for a Christmas lunch. Excellent service and a real treat!
My family and I have been going to Thomas Henkelmann's twice a year for the last six years. If we lived closer, we'd be there much more often. Simply put, it is a spectacular experience all around. In the summer, we have cocktails on their beautiful veranda and in December we bring our Aunt for a combined birthday-Christmas meal because the space is decked out in the most festive holiday decor. Go early to enjoy a drink at their lovely bar. The menu is surprisingly large for such a place--many choices and always exquisite specials. My husband raves about their sweetbreads and my favorite--their duck--is one of their specialties. We have brought family and friends with us and no one--not once--ate anything they would describe as just 'good'. In fact, the typical response is, 'This is the best *** I have ever eaten.' We look forward to our next dining experience! Thank you to all the chefs, hosts, servers, and other staff.
A wonderful lunch and the service was superb. The holiday decor and fireplace makes this a really great experience during the holidays
As always, superior service. Knowledgeable waitstaff. Superior meal
The driveway and stair rail were still icy from snow the night before. Our table next to the box where menus were stored...noisy as they were removed and replaced. The menus themselves no longer elegant..visually crowded. Rolls ordinary...and not warm. Soups delicious. My lobster salad...an old standby...was good but not the elegant eye appeal of former times. No Sancerre by the glass...only a Chardonnay. I had, instead, a pleasant but very very light rose.
