Thomas Henkelmann - Homestead Inn Ratings and Reviews
I’ve been a patron since 1980. Hence, I was 15 years old at the time of my first experience thanks to my well cultured Norwegian parents. They’ve been deceased for 9 years yet we continue to appreciate their legacy of fine cuisine, wines and service when there’s a big celebration to be had. One of the oldest, finest and best in town... Thank you for treating us well once again for a family 50th birthday gathering!
Hadn't been to this highly regarded spot in a few years. It remains an exceptional dining experience. Beautiful spot. Service was excellent. Sirloin steak was perhaps the best I have had in years, even at high end steak places in NY or Greenwich. Only complaint was despite being early (6:30 pm) on a Friday night, we were take immediately to the back most corner of the dining room where, if we hadn't requested a different table, one of us would have been staring at a wall.
5 star ..love the food.. ambience reminiscent of an upscale Inn with dining in France. Cozy quaint old world decor with a fun twist, love the monkey sconces and deep maroon painted bar area. The wrap around porch overlooks gardens for imbibing outside before or after dinner. Very attentive service! Too many favorites on the menu to list..
From the valet who parks your car to the maitre d who greets you, seeing to all your needs, and everyone in between, all at Thomas Henkelmann are truly professional. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff caring and attentive, and guests are made to feel special. A truly wonderful dining experience.
We chose Henkelmann's for our anniversary and were very pleased with our choice. Food was terrific and the wine selection vast. Our waiter even surprised us with a special dessert treat in honor of our anniversary.
Thomas Henkelmann's remains among the highest echelon of restaurants in Greenwich.
We hosted a family reunion at the Homestead Inn and it was a perfect setting. They graciously accommodated someone with mobility constraints, and added every touch to make it a special meal. I didn't think the food could get any better than on prior visits, but it did. Each course had wonderful surprises and everyone raved about our evening . Two of our guests stayed in the Inn, which only added more charm and warmth. It is a perfect venue when you want an unforgettable experience.
Overall a disappointing evening! We went to celebrate a long overdue engagement with family. Evening started out with just house wine and stayed there since when asking for a wine list it didn't appear! We wanted to order champagne but didn't want to make a huge scene to get it since the waiters were not attentive. Food was underwhelming starting with the complementary seafood bites that some were burnt and others were not. Two of us ordered the crispy duck and one was cooked perfectly and the second was extreamly dry. The soufflé was delivered broken for the presentation despite that minor issue it was still delicious . The crispy lobster triangle is a must!
Service by Axel and the team was outstanding. The food was superb. I had the cannelloni of crabmeat and crispy duck, hubby had the oysters and loin of veal over lobster risotto. Both were mouthwatering and delicious. I asked Axel to pair the wine with my meal and finished with the a 40-year old tawny port. The presentation was outstanding as they have a nitrogen hookup to keep the port as fresh as possible. We were the hit of the surrounding patrons. Thanks for a lovely evening.
Went there with just the wife and I. Food was delicious. The restaurant is rustic and quaint with a romantic air about it. Enjoyed a spicy bottle of Margaux which the Sommelier choose to perfectly enhance the duck and steak we were having for dinner. A Charming restaurant and hotel hidden in a lovely neighborhood in Greenwich. We will definitely by returning.
Fabulous food, perfect service, in a beautiful setting. Excellent for people with discerning palates. They take extra care to accommodate food allergies, for which I'm extremely grateful. They also had notes from our first visit, to help them accommodate our needs on this second one. The perfect dining experience, whose reputation is well-deserved.
With the exception of the rude valet parking man and the overcooked steak, the experience was really good. The valet parking man was rude and had terrible body language which made us consider leaving. But then the service in the restaurant was great. The food was awesome with the exception of the steak. I ordered medium and it came very very well done. They had to cook another one. The desserts were delicious.
My husband asked about whether the duck was duck breast or half a duck - the maitre'd said half a duck. Out came duck breast - maitre'd was upset my husband didn't want it since he does not like eating a thick piece of duck breast. The maitre'd was annoyed and said you have to eat it or I will get fired I canno go back into the kitchen. Well my husband did get the sole dish but the maitre'd never came back to the table - didn't want to acknowledge us and sent someone else to finish serving and taking the dessert order. We will never return to such rudeness - the chef was in the kitchen - he should have come out to apologize. So much for Mr Henkelmann!!!
Although we came here for a special family event, we were seated at a poor table by the fire exit under a leaky sky light. The service was poor and rushed. The entire restaurant smells like mold (they need a dehumidifier).
When I arrived I walked around the restaurant looking for help to find a better table but no one noticed. The plates after dinner and desert remained for more than 15 mins. In conclusion, the food was good but the service was suboptimal. We had hoped for a better experience especially for a family event. They are definitely focused on the regulars. Don't come if you are hoping for a great dining experience.
Definitely resting on its laurels.
