Thistle Lodge Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Food was very good. Jason the waiter was excellent. What ruined it was the music it was traditional American Indian. It was extremely mournful yet the restaurant was decorated for. Christmas. My daughter and her husband said they felt like they were at a. Yoga. Session. I would still highly recommend it for the food
Our dinner was pleasing to the eye as well as the taste buds. We shared an appetizer of lamb lollipops which were as tender as they were tasty. I had the lobster and lump crab “diver” scallops which were simply delicious and prepared to perfection.
It's all about the food for us and throw in some atmosphere for good measure but in this case the service deserves a special mention. Our server, Richard, provided us with one of our more memorable experiences. The service, the timing, the accommodations to my wife's food allergies was excellent but what stood out to us was the conversation we had with him. Don't want to get into the details but let's just say it was inspirational.
Way overrated. Went for Restaurant Week. They said none of their meats for $35 menus came in but they had a $55 price fix menu. Waiter was lousy. Worst Ceasar salad ever. Will not return. Also, Open Table said no 6:30 reservation was available. Arrived at 7 for 7:15 reservation and place was sparse.
To be fair this was there Thanksgiving buffet. They were clearly overbooked. We had to wait 15 minutes for a table I had reserved earlier in the month. We had to sit on the outside porch. The waitress was fine. We barely had flatware. The food was ok but looked completely picked over by the time we got to eat. There was no salad left. Serving spoons left in the dishes or just laying on the tables in front of the food. Made it very unappetizing. The bill was $279 with a 20% gratuity added on automatically. 20% for pouring four glasses of water and bringing 2 drinks to our table????Completely not worth it. I was super disappointed!
My husband, college-aged daughter and I had our Thanksgiving dinner at Thistle Lodge this year during our trip to Captiva Island. They only offered a buffet on this day. It was good with all the traditional holiday offerings (turkey, stuffing, etc). There was a complete area just for desserts! Our waiter, Woody, was very attentive refilling our drinks and clearing plates away. The restaurant is in a beautiful old seaside cottage right on the Gulf. We had a beautiful day and I am glad I booked this special meal.
Lovely restaurant located on Sanibel Island. I had been wanting to go there for a long time and thought that the Thanksgiving buffet would be a good occasion. I requested a table with a view of the water, and they did accommodate that request. The food was good but there were not really too many creative dishes nor was it anything out of the ordinary. The setting is lovely and is worth going just to see the restaurant. Because they already added the gratuity, service was very minimal. We even had a bottle of wine and had to serve it to ourselves, even when I hinted that our glasses needed to re-filled. Overall, my experience could have been vastly improved by improved service. I would return on a non-holiday to see if the food and/or service was any better.
We chose to sit outside to enjoy the weather, but it felt kind of odd by the pool. The interior of the restaurant is really beautiful though. The server at the table next to us explained the specials for at least 5 minutes. But we never heard anything about them, which was a bummer since they sounded amazing. The Mahi was delicious as well as the other entrees at our table.
A server asked us rudely to get our 1 1/2 year old out of his way while we were getting situated at our table. He continued to be extremely rude to my husband trying to explain how busy he was (there was only one other table of diners besides us).
We've never been treated so horribly. We didn't even get our water before we decided to leave.
We highly recommend NOT going to this restaurant.
Delish!! The food looks fantastic and tastes even better. Friendly and efficient service. This is a great dining experience and can be pricey, so don't go and then skimp, as the Kobe Beef Tartar was excellent, as was the Rack of Lamb and Mahi Mahi.
Mario was our waiter and was quite professional. The ambience was nice though a little bright - could have used a little more lighting/flowers something...but OK.
Appetizers was the tuna trio - nondescript in terms of taste, uniqueness it was fresh though.
The Pompano was basically dried out - just a little too long under a heat lamp maybe...not great.
Food is a bit pricey, but everything we ate was wonderful. I had a vegetarian dish, as my dining guests both ate the special. Everything was cooked and seasoned wonderfully, the server was attentive, but not overly so, and very knowledgeable of each dish (I overheard him breaking down several different entrees when a Gluten Free guest was questioning what he could eat - he could tell him exactly what in the dish had gluten in it and how it could be adjusted). We had a beautiful view of the Gulf and beach as the sun was going down.
Can only say great things about our experience - great service, wonderful food and atmosphere. My husband had the Lobster Bisque and mussels, I had the cannelloni with bolgonese and Caesar salad, friends had the scallops topped with crab/lobster & cannelloni with Alfredo and topped with seafood.
A fairly inventive menu. It was executed in a "midwestern" manner--ie not much spice, but leaned on sweetness to overcome an ok dish. We had the pomano, which came with a slightly sweet glaze--completely unnecessary for a great fish. We also had steak, which had a syrupy sweet glaze that overpowered a middling thin cut of ribeye. quantities are generous.
