Thistle Lodge Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We have been to this restaurant a few times over the last few years with very good experiences. So we decided to spend our Valentines evening there. What a HUGE mistake!!! The service was non existent. It took over 10 mins after being seated for someone (the manager?) to ask what we wanted to drink. When I complained about the lack of service he gave brought us our first round. Very nice gesture but the service continue to be bad the entire night. If I remember correctly our server only showed up 3 times; to take the order, bring the wine and then the bill. I had to pour the wine during our meal. There was a set menu which is expected during a holiday but the food was cold and dried out. We both had fish and could not eat it. When I got the bill they automatically placed the gratuity on which for a party of 2 is just wrong. At that point I just wanted to leave since the evening was ruined. I might go back on non holiday since the place has such a nice atmosphere but won't be this season.
The Thistle Lodge is pretty and the food is good however we arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation and we were greeted rudely by several staff. The bar was not open to get a drink while we waited and the staff was indifferent. The receptionist and staff should be better trained in customer relations.
The site was beautiful and the staff was friendly and professional. The food wasn’t as good as we would expect from this price point. The descriptions didn’t match what was received. There was a wedding upstairs and the music was so loud, it ruined our experience. I noted it was my husbands birthday, however, no mention was made and our dessert didn’t come with a candle, like other tables I saw. My husband and I dine at many upscale restaurants and are not concerned with price. This was a disappointing experience for us.
Took our friends here for Anniversary lunch. The entire experience was exceptional. Had a wonderful table with great view of the beautiful grounds and the gulf.
I had the Thai noodles with Salmon, the men had the grouper. My husband said it was the best ever. Seasoned just right and cooked to perfection. Parparadell was very tasty with enough for next day.
Tonya was our server. We wanted for nothing. She was very professional with a very nice personality. She tended to our table without being overbearing.
Lunch was completed with a complimentary desert. Norman Love chocolate.
Thistle Lodge is a beautiful restaurant with outstanding food. Look forward to our next return.
Food was ok but the service was one of the worst we ever had. Waiter was abrupt and unknowledge about the food and wine. Room was extremely cold and when we asked to turn the ac down, he said only maintenance could change temp and did not offer to help. Very uncomfortable throughout.
Total disappointment! I’ve been wanting to eat here for 30+ years because of the beautiful setting on Sanibel! This restaurant does not live up to the hype or even commemorancy with the resort! The waiter was rude and rushed us thru the ordering process. The food was an even bigger dissappoitment and mediocre at best! I’ve had a better fish sandwich the previous day for 1/3 of the price and it was delivered with a smile!
To quote our server when I ask if the Mahi Mahi was fresh “nothing here is fresh!”
That about says it ALL! I’m sad to say I won’t be back!
We had enjoyed the Sunday Brunch for years and looked forward to this year. This year they had only a Brunch Buffet although their website still listed the Sunday Brunch menu. Most of the buffet brunch food tasted like it came from a Costco freezer. The person making omelets did not know how to make omelets(they were fried hard), The grits were like soup, the biscuits were stale and hard as hardtack, the salad was unappetizing looking(did not try), and the food selection was limited. The only saving grace were the half price Mimosas.
A couple seated across from us left without ordering when they were told there was no Brunch. They were smarter than we.
Dined here on two occasions on a recent trip to the area. First trip was fantastic, excellent food and service so we decided to dine there again. Second trip was very disappointing. The Ahi tuna was far from Ahi grade, overcooked, poorly presented, but tolerable. I ordered a specific after dinner drink and received without warning a substitute that was simply awful. The server said they were out of what I ordered. R U kidding me? Don't bring me some look-a-like and try to pass it off. Will never go back.
We had a reservation for an early New Year's Eve dinner. We didn't know that they had a limited menu that evening, but that worked out well. The entree price included either soup or salad as well as a dessert. I had the sea bass which was cooked to perfection. My husband had the steak and lobster which was also wonderful. It was a toss up as to whether the key lime pie or the apple pie was better. Although there is a fee to get over to Sanibel, it is worth the drive to experience this restaurant at least once.
We went for New Years Eve. There was a fixed price menu, which fact wasn’t made known to us until we got there (their website didn’t say). The menu was vastly reduced from the everyday offerings. “Outside” where wer chose to sit, is right by the chlorine smelling, very loud, outdoor pool w no clear view of anything but the pool bar. Food was so-so at best. The island drink I had two sips of was uninspired. Service was attentive, but not practiced. Would not go back and would not recommend. Much better places on island.
Christmas Buffet was totally overpriced at $50 per person plus imposed 20% gratuity. Food and service mediocre. Shellfish not properly clean, correct utensils not available. Food items not identified soup, casseroles etc. Pasta bar bland outcome available seafood added not cooked. Prime rib poor cut lacking flavor. Food items not replaced in timely manner, serving tables soiled. Totally disappointed with our experience - have previously given this restaurant excellent reviews when ordering off the menu so expected same for the Christmas meal. I'm sorry but maybe the management will read this and have a positive reaction and fix this !
