but now moving to Seattle :( Northern NJ's food scene will not be the same without the inventive and delicious fare that is consistently generated from the kitchen of Thirty Acres. The tasting menu was again a hit, the fall season bringing new flavors and ingredients, and the razor sharp technique and gorgeous plating remaining true to the restaurant's reputation. There really is nothing to say other than I wish the whole team great success in their future, and if I ever find myself hungry and wandering the streets of Seattle, I'll know where to go!!!

Props to the chef for making his statement on the food. Service was not what I expected from getting the menus, waiting 15 minutes to take a drink order, waiting again to get the food and finally getting the bill. Surprise! They have a Hall and Oates interest.

We had a fantastic meal expertly prepared, exciting and most importantly delicious. The wine list is all American with a large majority of the new pioneers in California wine. Don't be afraid to try something new as they are all from excellent producers.

If a chef is ambitious enough not to have a menu, I would expect to be given a story, a speach of what to expect and how amazing our experience will be. Instead we were offered 2 choices - with or without wine pairing. The food was ok. Trout and steak courses was actually very tasty. But overall experience was more of a diner than a fine restaurant. And at 135 pp with wine pairing it is a very expensive diner. Service was not bad but certainly not great. A waitress would come out and serve several plates to few tables. At the end of our dinner, we were given a printed dinner menu ,with hand written dinner celection and a date stamp. With a business model like amazing Eleven Madison Park or Atera, 30 Acres did not live to our expectations. In my opinion , the whole thing it isn't put together well. 30 Acres needs professional staff that will keep you interested, a menue that is less predictable - all the dishes had spicy/sweet flavor. Somalier might help as well as the wines were pretty much bad.....all very young 2013-2014 and not well balanced. Sparkling red at the end of dinner was simply not drinkable. If 30 Acres was a regular restaurant where a diner can choose his meal and be presented with a normal menu, I would rate it considerable higher. And expected much less of a staff.

We were huge fans of Thirty Acres before they switched over to a tasting menu, but hadn't been back since the change. Unfortunately, it is a bit out of our reach for regular dinning...so we waited until we had a special occasion to head back to our old favorite hang. Kevin delivered an AMAZING meal and we can see why he wanted to switch over to a tasting menu. It was a culinary journey, with contrasting flavors finding perfect harmony along the way. Going to Thirty Acres is such a treat, Kevin is daring, combining foods that shouldn't belong together but work unbelievably well leaving you wondering why nobodys done this before. For instance, one of the canapés served was chicken liver cream, blueberries with spruce tips. We were cackling over his squash dish one of the most inventive vegetable dishes I've ever been served, and one that will stay on my highlights list for years to come. Then there is the pure essence of the ingredients. The lamb loin, which set a new standard in my book was served with yogurt, dill flower and dried seaweed. The protein was equal parts meat and glorious fat which totally melted in your mouth. Thirty Acres is Jersey City's best restaurant. It is in fact in a different league altogether. For those looking for a memorable meal...this is the place to go!

Went here with a group of 4 after reading great reviews online. Reservations are only given for the $75/person tasting menu so not wanting to take things to chance i went with this option and got the reservation. We were litteraly 1 of 2 groups at the place for a Saturday 7pm dinner. Place was totally dead. Interior is great and ambiance when resturant is packed is probably good but it just felt awkward. The tasting menu itself was only okay. Presentation was nice and portions were as expected, but non of us could claim this was worth the $75/person. I may try it again as a walk-in and order off the normal menu if the place doesn't go out of business.

We've been hesitant to come back since they implemented the tasting menu, primarily due to my wife's dietary restrictions (no wheat, dairy or soy) but we contacted them ahead of time and were told as long as we made a note with the reservation that they could handle the restrictions. My wife and I both loved our meals, and they showed great care to make sure her restrictions were taken care of. Thanks!

We came to Thirty Acres to celebrate a special occasion. All of the courses were very good; however, we left hungry. We had a few amuse bouche to start, which I'd say the oyster was the highlight. The first couple of courses were a frybread with butter and asparagus dish. The bread and butter were good, but I wouldn't call that a course, and the asparagus was great. The highlights were the swordfish and the pork loin, both delicious and cooked to perfection. I think a cheese course would add very much. The lemon tarts at the end were excellent.

A journey to Jersey City was well worth it my my dining companion and I because we had the opportunity to eat at Thirty Acres. Put simply, Thirty Acres is an amazing food experience with an emphasis on fresh produce and delicate flavours. The degustation menu was beautifully constructed and proportioned. If you have an opportunity to eat at Thirty Acres, do it. You will not be disappointed.

A gourmet find! The 11 course tasting menu (no a la carte menu) was perfect. Terrific mixtures of favors beautifully presented in a well timed parade of interesting dishes. Portion size was just right; we left satisfied but not stuffed. The servers were pleasant and informative, but a brief introduction at the beginning of the meal would have helped: first time diners need to know the procedure, but not the details of what's coming. For example, knowing that we'd get a printed menu at the end would have saved some note taking! The menu presentation at the end of the meal was a nice touch as we enjoyed the drama of the stream of surprises and the review, when we got home, of what we had eaten. Not inexpensive, but really an excellent value. GO!

I was sorely disappointed with our Valentine's Day dinner at Thirty Acres last Saturday. I've had the restaurant bookmarked on Yelp for quite some time which is sad since the entire dining experience was a huge let down. The mandatory tasting menu was overly ambitious, pretentious, overpriced and ultimately unsatisfying. The only standout dishes were the deep fried wheat bread with cranberry butter and the lemon "bars" they gave you at the end of the meal. The restaurant has a bar with hard alcohol but they can't make a cocktail because, as they claim, they don't have the accouterments. The entire meal including two neat bourbons came out to about $200 and my fiance and I left hungry. To put things in to a better perspective, my fiance and I have dined at some of the better restaurants not only in NY but also around the world including several Michelin starred establishments where we partook in a chef's tastings and paid a considerable amount more than we paid at Thirty Acres but when we got up from those tables we got up with smiles on our faces and full stomachs. Whomever is at the helm at Thirty Acres is simply overreaching and missing the mark. Sadly, I love supporting my local restaurants and businesses but the offerings here were a complete fail in my opinion. I won't be returning to Thirty Acres or recommending it to anyone in the future.

30 Acres is a superb restaurant. We had Arctic -perfectly cooked; light, airy gnocchi with slightly spicy duck sausage, a winter vegetable/parsnip broth- savory and simple. Service was earnest friendly and, happily, restrained. The wine list is small and only has US wines but they look thoughtfully sourced, for example Rieslings from small Finger Lakes wineries. Decor is a warm, just rustic enough minimal- modern. Looking very much forward to going back.

I have been wanting to go there because it was one of the best new restaurant in US a few years back per Bon appetite magazine. Just before going, I had also seen review that the dishes were salty but I thought it might just have been the off day for the chef. We had the beef tartare, gunocchi and pork neck. Beef tartare has good flavor but it has enough salt by itself , so when eaten with the wheat cracker ( which had more sea salt on it), it's way too salty. The gunocchi was good. The pork neck again was salty, especially with the sauce and especially if you have the whole portion( just a bite might be ok but not when u try to eat the whole entree). We had the lemon bar for dessert, which is refreshing but I wasn't a big fan of lemon bar to begin with. I wish they have some other more sophisticated options. The service and atmosphere is good though. Overall, as a normal restaurant , it's not bad but I wouldn't go back

The food was creative and delicious. The gnocchi was out of this world. I do wish they had a more varied wine list. Next time will bring our own, even with the $25 corkage fee. It makes more sense paying that rather than spending $50 or more on a wine you don't care for.

I have been to 30 Acres two times now, and I have been very please with both meals. My only complaint is that I was seated at the very back table, both times, which is quite drafty in the winter months. As for the food, everything was very good. Started with the steak tartare and squid. Both were prepared properly. I enjoyed the tartare as it was a welcome variation to traditional style. For entrees, the char and duck breast. Both were huge hits, as they were prepared to perfection. I will definitely be back to sample the spring menu.

After reading the good review decided to try for my hubby's birthday. Waiter recommended the raw hamachi, steak tartar, gnocci with duck sausage and the duck breast - we ordered all, but had the pork neck instead of the duck breast. EVERYTHING was over salted and impossible to taste the flavors of what we were eating. The gnocci was mushy and lacked texture and we only had 2 bites and couldn't eat it. Settled the bill, then sat at the bar and ordered some champagne and the lemon bar, which is excellent. This restaurant may be okay for Jersey City, but nothing exceptional about it. If you know anything about good food, this restaurant is not for you.

First off, it isn't a BYOB (NOT A BYOB), AND $25 for corkage fee is crazy, bring a 1/2 bottle as it is for a 750 mL bottle. The place is nice décor, decent music, but that is where it stops. The appetizer was okay, himachi with brulee grapefruit, but odd bite sizes, obviously not cut by a sushi chef. The cavateli was gross - squid ink I can understand but there was no balance to it and didn't taste any of the herbs due to the overwhelming ink. The gnocchi my friend had was much better and a good balance of flavors with the duck sausage. Overall a big disappointment that I even decided to try this place, was hopeful to get a good meal like what could get in NYC, but BIG BIG LET DOWN.

We just got home from the restaurant. It was my husband's Bday and we decided not to go to the city due to heavy rain and go to Thirty Acres. How lucky we were to change our minds and go to this fantastic place. My husband and I ate almost everything on the menu. We got everything on the appetizer section expect the fried Beef Tendon and EVERYTHING was delicious. Then we ordered pasta with Uni and that was also incredible. We got all 3 main dishes (Arctic Char, Duck breast and Pork Neck)... WOW, all three were delicious. We can't wait to go back again soon.

This was one of the most delightful restaurants we've been to in New Jersey in a longtime. Thirty Acres is in a storefront on a well lit corner (very safe) of Jersey City. The menu is devised by a chef who must really know the word "deliciousness. " His offerings are farm-to-table, and very inventive, featuring a nice range of appetizers and a small group of entrees that include a meat, a fish, a pork dish, and pastas for vegetarians. We thought the wine list had a great mix of Santa Barbara whites and Oregon pinot noire -- unusual and very reasonable. Service was personal and very attentive. Above all, we liked the quiet nature of this restaurant -- no loud blaring music or diners interesting in scenesmanship.

As always, Thirty Acres has over delivered! I brought my boss and two clients in for dinner and we were all blown away, both by the food and the wine list. Highlights were the Fluke Crudo, Beef Tartare, Gnocchi w/ Duck Sausage and Roasted Duck Breast in terms of dishes, and the RPM Gamay that we drank with our entrees was spectacular, and hard to get your hands on so kudos to 30AC for having it! Highly recommended... Quite possibly the best restaurant in NJ.
