Thirsty Lion Gastropub & Grill – Tempe
Book your next event with us
I made reservations for 6, arrived on time with all of party present. Spoke with 3 different hostesses and got 3 different answers. Completely disorganized chaos. And it took 20 min to get my table and when we were walked there we walked by multiple empty tables?? That is inexcusable. Bathroom needed servicing
The online menu and write ups had me excited for the variety and ingredients, Food was just fair, Maybe trying to be too many things. Ahi Poke stack was mushy and mostly rice. Cubano wasn't flat grilled or on a ciabatta, as stated on menu, was on a French roll. Fried Cauliflower wasn't crunchy (also soggy). Best thing was my Basil and Grapefruit Martini. Nice drink
Asked for a table next to window, a quiet spot, but instead have us a table in the middle of the bar surrounded by talking ppl & running around waiters & waitresses. Not cool
It was good, it’s very loud in the main dining room and often hard to hear conversation. Food was good as usual.
Our reservation was ready as promised our booth was roomy, service was excellent and the food was done to our expectations. We will definitely be back.
Service was great also the chicken Sliders Were exceptional
Inside was very noisy so we requested outside seating and that was great. Food was good. Service was good considering how busy it was as it was during the holidays.
Food and service were outstanding, not your typical sports bar!
Great weekend brunch menu! Good place to go with friends and watch a game.
Very nice restaurant for groups. A little loud, but a lot of choices for food.
We sat outside on a pleasant day. The meal was delicious...we both had burgers and fries. We sat for 2 hours and no on bothered us.
The service was rated lower because there appeared to be only one server on duty and the place was packed. The server did her best and the low rating is on management squarely
Can’t wait to go back again
I had a southwest salad. It was flavorful. The restaurant was clean. The service was good.
Food was not good, salmon overcooked, shrimp cold, chicken was bland.
Excellent food, Excellent service and atmosphere!!
Thirsty Lion never disappoints. We frequent here for their lunch salads.
The lab burger special was excellent, really enjoyed that. Unfortunately the noise level was so high that it was almost impossible to carry on a conversation. The patio might have been a better choice to have any sort of ability to talk.
The service was very poor, the food was average. The Manager did accommodate us by taking the appetizers off the bill due to the poor service.
The greeting by the hostesses was cordial, and I was promptly seated. The waitress was promptly to my table to take my drink order while I waited for my dining companion. This unobtrusive attentiveness was sustained throughout the experience - kudos to Melanie.
As for the food, I had the Thai Red Curry Chicken while my friend opted for the Ahi Salad. The temperature of my entree was perfect, and the aroma and flavor were authentic. One would expect to find this dish in a high-end Asian restaurant. My friend found her salad to be equally delicious. I don't get to Tempe often, but this venue will be a first pick.
Party of 4 had a great dinner and super service. We’ve never been disappointed. Thank you.
Another outstanding experience at Tempe. Food was amazing as was Emily. Thank you.
Excellent wait staff. A little too cool, so manager went out of his wait to accommodate us in a warmer spot. Some of the best French fries around. Manager and wait staff went out of their way to make sure we had a good dining experience.
Good food, service was a bit slow and noise level was very loud and annoying. Will do lunch next time quieter and you can carry a conversation. Did not find The Gilbert location to have this type of noise level
I will NOT be returning to Thirsty Lion! My trust is broken beyond repair. I have food sensitivities, and it is very important that I do not eat dairy or eggs. I called ahead and asked to speak to a staff member from the kitchen. I needed to verify that the impossible burger would not contain dairy or eggs, IF I ordered it without mayo, 1000 island dressing, or cheese. I was told that this was the case, and I could even have a pub bun as it fit with my dietary requirements. Thrilled, I made a reservation. When I arrived and was giving the server my order, she got a funny look on her face when I mentioned I cannot eat dairy or eggs. This made me question the ingredients of the impossible burger once more. This time, a manager came to our table and explained that all of their bread and buns DO contain eggs and dairy! Had I not asked a second time, I would have eaten the foods that upset my stomach and I would have spent the rest of the day feeling lousy. I trusted the info I was given over the phone, and invited 3 others to dine with me. I ended up hating the impossible burger, because they LIED to me and still charged me $15 for a tiny, too salty patty with 2 pieces of lettuce, 2 thin slices of tomato, and mustard!
It is a lively place. Lots of people watching sports and some overly rowdy (not drunk, just one loner who was loudly cheering). Good atmosphere, nice service and the food is always great.
Seated quickly with reservation with many waiting. Quick service. Food was very good although fries were way too salty. Manager stopped by to check on our meal; mentioned the fries and was willing to rectify which was appreciated but not necessary. Recommended next time to ask for low or no salt which we will do.
Good food, good service, good location. It is loud and maybe not the best spot for a date if you don't want to scream at one another, but it is fun and tons of TVs for all you sports fans.
Has a good pub atmosphere and the option of an affordable beer flight. Fairly typical but good food (at least for what I had) and decent selection to choose from.
We thought we would try something new when planning to meet with a friend and we were impressed. The manager went over and above for a gluten allergy which we greatly appreciated!
Yes, the restaurant was busy, but we waited ONE HOUR before our food arrived. Not worth the wait!
We love to come here and watch a game or hang out with friends. We have gone their for date night and have enjoyed ourselves. The food is always great and the beer is always cold. We highly recommend this to anyone that comes to town and visits us.
On this occasion we had a good experience. However I made a reservation for this past Friday that was very disappointing. At noon I made a reservation for 12:30. Our party showed up and were told that there was now a 30 minute wait and we shouldn't have been able to reserve for that time slot. We were then placed at the end of the waitlist. Not to mention Open Table's feature that notifies you when a reservation isn't possible did not do so, so our reservation should've been honored. The staff notifying us of THEIR error made no apologies for the issue and seemed to infer that it was our own fault for making the reservation close to the seating time. I am leaving this review on my prior reservation date because when we decided not to wait my reservation was considered cancelled so I cannot review. We still love the food and atmosphere of Thirsty Lion but our customer service experience this day was awful.
I would go back to this restaurant but this particular experience was NOT a good one! Our server forgot about us and I had to wave her down to ask her to take out order after 20 minutes. I asked for no avocado and no tomato on my sandwich and it had both which I had to take off (scrape off the avocado) and my french fries were cold. They server was friendly after all of this and she brought me a new plate of fries that I said wasn't necessary. My smoked turkey sandwich with maple bacon would have been great if it didn't still taste like avocado. The blood orange cosmos were amazing!
We were visiting AZ from Connecticut and had a wonderful Outdoor dining experience. The staff was friendly and prompt and the menu was expansive. The tuna poke was amazing (and quite large!) and my husband really enjoyed trying different beers through a beer flight. We hope to get back someday!
Fun place to grab a drink. Good variety of menu items.
Our party ordered the Salmon & Asparagus Risotto, Korean Fried Chicken, and The Ribeye Steak. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. The music was a little loud but we were still able to enjoy conversation.
Excellent food, great atmosphere, personable and attentive staff..very enjoyable experience!
The menu is varied and suits all tastes. The food is fresh, appealing and nicely prepared. The beer selection is always fun. We had the bacon-wrapped dates as an appetizer . . .delicious. Prices are reasonable too. We'll be back!
Overall great experience. Food wait time and waitress attentiveness could have been a bit better though
