Thirsty Lion Gastropub & Grill – Tempe
Book your next event with us
This is our favorite brunch spot. Already planning our next visit!
Our poor waitress had way too many tables so we rarely saw her. Everything we ordered was delivered by someone else and our food took a lot longer that the tables around us and we were only a party of 5.
I have eaten at Thirsty Lion many times and I have enjoyed it every time. I just wish you hadn't taken the stacked enchiladas off the menu. We do love the scotch eggs and cauliflower appetizers.
I had the best Reuben sandwich EVER! I have been several times and love their salads, too.
Food is way too salty. My party and I walked out of there feeling really bloated from all of the sodium. Salt is probably their number one seasoning.
Great place to catch a game with some unique food options.
My husband and I went for an early dinner before a concert. It was delicious! I’ve only been to the Gilbert location. And this one is just as nice.
Our server Alexis was terrific as was her manager Allison!
Both were very accommodating in getting our seats moved to the patio to reduce the noise!!
They both couldn’t possibly have been any nicer & helpful!!
Thirsty Lion is a great place for lunch. The full menu has seasonal selections that change regularly as well as the proven favorites. They have something for every appetite: great burgers, fantastic salads, creative appetizers as well as a great selection of beers on tap.
Over the past 3 years I have had business lunches at the Tempe Thirsty Lion and have always ordered the fish & chips which have always been of consistently good quality. However, this time the fish & chips tasted differently, the white filet part of the fish was tough and hard to eat, and it had a much different flavor from all my prior visits. When a person who was not familiar with the area suggested we go to lunch and asked me to suggest a place, so I picked the Thirsty Lion. Not sure if your buyers changed fish vendors and went to the low bidder or what but I was disappointed and only ate part of the serving. Not sure if I will go there again.
Great experience!! Great happy hour and friendly service.
Excellent food and great service. They were doing a fundraiser for the Humane Society, which was awesome. Keep up the good work.
I have eaten here a few times and while it's always been good, this time it was excellent. I got a the waygu burger and everything about it was great. Even the side salad was very tasty and fresh.
I think it is loud here, but I'm okay with that.
Our service wasn't great, but we weren't in a rush. She even comp'd my iced tea since she never came back to give me a refill, so an extra star there.
Even though we used OpenTable and made the reservation a day ahead. We still had to wait. It was like they didn’t pay attention to the reservations and were seating people and groups before us. The noise level was really loud. Especially the music. But the food was amazing. We did find it weird that they didn’t put sauerkraut on my husband’s Reuben sandwich 😬
Good food and service, no complaints
Be prepared for a very loud space! Otherwise, the service is tops, the draft beer selection outstanding and food delicious.
Everything was great, the atmosphere was really nice. I guess I just ordered the wrong thing on the menu. Had the barbecue shrimp platter which was great, but portion size was for kids. I will be back to try something else though.
We waited awhile to be be greeted, but after that service was friendly and attentive. Food and drinks were excellent.
The food was great. The portions were large and there were lots of choices. Our waitress, Taylor was cute and vert efficient.
Our server was more concerned about turning tables around rather than dealing with the tables he already had. Had to ask another server for more dressing, after asking ours prior. Also asked for half the meal to be packed as to-go and he said sure. Never happened. Never refilled drinks...
Food was good but not very warm. We went on father’s day and had a reservation. We arrived 15 minutes early and they wouldn’t seat us until our reservation time, even though the restaurant was maybe 30% full. Our server was a little slow, didn’t check on us much. The food took over an hour and they still weren’t very busy. We had 2 young children with us who were losing their patience and I had to go ask for the check and then go hunt the waitress down to pay it. I would give them another chance but we weren’t very happy with the experience.
Food was excellent and service was very good as well. We were there for lunch at 1pm. I did feel it was a bit too noisy for that time of day.
Service was good. Food okay. Noise level made it impossible to have a conversation with those at the table and even the server had to ask again about our order because of the noise. I know it's a bar but they need to put in sound barriers, maybe ceiling fabrics and lower the music volume.
This is our go to spot to meet family and friends. The location is great and the food is always good. The only issue is it is always super cold, winter and summer. Bring a jacket!
The Thirsty Lion is our regular meeting place to enjoy friends and colleagues, they have never let us down
It was a last minute decision to try a new pub.... we were seated quickly, asked for not a high top, though that is what we were given. No waitress came by for 15 mins.... when she came by, took drink order, 1 drink came out, second drink never showed... asked her if she could check and bring second round for first drink??? Waited and waited finally waved her down to place dinner order, she was less than friendly, asked to also place a drink order since it seemed to take some time to receive drinks.... very put out. Food came, never saw wait staff again until bill arrived, would have stayed but got distinct feeling this was not a place to hang out. More than half the tables empty, do not think is was a lack of staffing.... Would not bother to go back.
Food was good. Service was poor. Slow and left dishes on table for a long time between courses.
The food was great but the drink service always seems to take a while here. We would have stayed longer / spent more if it wasn’t such a long delay between ordering and receiving drinks. Great place to go aside from this.
Met with a few folks to discuss future opportunities while enjoying a good bite to eat.
Very disappointed. Made reservations, the other members of our party arrived before we did and checked in. They were told the kitchen was behind so it would be a 10-15 minute wait. I arrived with my 83 year old mom and checked in with the hostess to let her know we were all present. She brought the manager over and he said, "You're late." I don't know what difference it made since they were running late as well, I found it rude. The service was slow and we barely saw our server, he refilled my tea once. My meal wasn't great, we won't be back. A very disappointing Mother's Day for sure.
Took over and hour to get the food. Only saw the waitress a couple times. Waffle was served with ice cold syrup
We love coming to Thirsty Lion usually. The last couple of times it has dropped off in service a bit. Today was just poor. I am giving them some credit as it was Mother's Day, but at noon, there were several (almost half) empty tables. We were seated and had to stop someone after a while to get water and tea. 30 minutes later we had ordered. It was over 90 minutes after sitting before we got our food, 50 minutes after ordering. When I asked for an ETA on our food, I was told "shouldn't be too much longer. Kitchen is just really busy, we had like 70 reservations before 2:00". My first thought was, you are not packed now and second, if you knew you were going to be that busy, why didn't you bring in enough help? Food was good, my pretzel was a bit dry but it probably had been sitting for a while. I would have sent it back but did not want to chance how long it would take to get a new one. Spicy chicken sliders were juicy and tasty. Others with me enjoyed the sandwiches like the Reuben and French Dip. We may give it another try hoping this was a fluke but if the service continues to drop, we will need to find another go to restaurant.
Great Brunch menu and was there for Mother’s Day, they made sure to recognize my mom and gave her a small gift
The setting is really nice, love the decor.
The food was amazing. Their bloody Mary’s were amazing.
The down fall was the wait time, from ordering, getting the drinks, getting the food, trying to get a refill. It all took a long time to get, and it didn’t seem that busy at the time.
Another thing that left a bad taste, our server was very nice, however the food runner had a bit of an attitude. My mom got her food and they brought her the wrong plate, which my mom told her. She took the plate back without a word, and said while walking away “well that’s what was on your tab” which wasn’t actually the case since our server knew what the order actually was.
Staff did what they could to seat us outside even on Mother’s Day- appreciate it!
We were there to watch the Derby and they were so kind as to cut the music and play the race! I loved it! We were thankful to the great staff for making our Derby Day a fun one!
Excellent food, outstanding service. Will go often!
The service was good and the appearance was nice. The food was delicious but some issues:
1-the BBQ bacon wrapped prawns were medium shrimp not prawns
2-the fries that came with our burgers were the small and over cooked, like what's left on the bottom of the fryer basket
Our waiter was not very informative with the menu. I ordered fish but it was not prepared as expected, it came with kale but sadly I could not eat it because it was so salty. My friends lobster roll was just ok.
