Theo's Steak, Sides & Spirits Ratings and Reviews
We were sat upstairs which has less atmosphere, even though walk-ins just ahead of us got prime tables in the window and other tables downstairs were available. I didn't make a fuss as with family, but it puts you off using OpenTable if you're going to be relegated to "lesser" seating. Other wise everything fine.
We have owned a house in St. Michaels for 6 years and had not been to Theo's before. We went primarily because we could not get a table at our first and second and third choices. We were very pleased with the food. The crab cake was terrific. We will be gong again.
Excellent meal. Best filet I've ever had. Salads were awesome. Our waiter was very good just forgot to bring out our order of mushrooms. Brought us free champagne and a dessert at the end of our meal because we notified them in advance it was a birthday and Anniversary celebration, which was awesome. Would definitely recommend.
Our server, Veronica, made our evening exceptional! We love Theo's. This is the first time we dined with one of our dogs on their beautiful porch.
Grey goose dirty Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives
Excellent bread basket
Porterhouse steak for two
We originally were going for the happy hour, but decided to stay for dinner. We celebrated my wife's BD and ordered Chateau Briand (sp) after enjoying a drink and appetizer. The meal was excellent and prepared to perfection. Our server was friendly, gracious, and very professional. We thoroughly enjoyed our happy hour and dinner :-)
Theo's never disappoints. Met friends for a "catch-up" dinner. The food was great, the staff was wonderful, and the ambiance was just what we needed for a good long chat with friends. There are many choices in St. Michaels but Theo's is at the top of the list.
Upscale dining at affordable pricing. Easily accessible offstreet parking in a private lot. Original, unique and delicious cocktails. Great variety of entrees including vegetarian choices. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. My wife and I had a wonderful dinner on their front porch.
Excellent steaks. Chateaubriand was as good as I can remember having anywhere. Vegetables with it were overdone and not very tasty. Potatoes were terrific. The filet my husband ordered was also excellent. Shrimp salt block appetizer we shared was also very good. The steaks are pretty "pricey" which is why I listed it as "special occasion" but the meat was really excellent. Service was good as well.
Reasonable wine list.
We were staying in Cambridge MD and saw Theo's on a daytrip to St. Michael's. Called the next day and made a reso and went with my family and my brother's family. It was simply fantastic. 7 meals, 7 home runs. Service was a 10. Our waiter Curtis made us feel like he had come into serve dinner at my own house. We had some picky eaters in the bunch but everyone was thrilled with the selection. If 5 starts is the best, give it 10 stars and go and try it yourself. Awesome.
As always, great food and the service is the best, both at the bar and table service. Melany, who I believe has been there since day 1, is the best. Audrey is very accommodating and I believe she's been at Theo's since their opening also.
Our go to restaurant in St. Michaels!
A nice St. Michaels gem! The food was excellent and the service was very good. In the smaller dining room off to the right as you come in, acoustic panels are placed on the ceiling which greatly controlled the noise level. This was much appreciated by someone at our table who was deaf in one ear. Our only criticism is that some items are just too pricey for the portions, such as the ahi tuna and the wine by the glass portions. Not an inexpensive place to dine!
We went to Theo's based on several recommendations and we also wanted a steak. It was raining that night in St. Michaels and we walked into the restaurant and waited at a very cramped hostess stand - lots of servers standing around - no hostess. Another couple came in behind us and took part in what was already a cramped space as we waited for the hostess to show - we were the more patient couple (they left after waiting and waiting). Finally our hostess showed and we tell her we had a reservation - after an interminably long wait for her to do something on her iPad, we were led to our table upstairs.
The server was very good - she was attentive and told us all about the specials and never kept us waiting. She even took care of our wet umbrellas for us - something the hostess simply ignored. Now for the food:
1. I made the mistake of order the fresh house-made mozzarella and tomato salad. The tomatoes were good - a nice mixture of red and orange cherry tomatoes in a standard, unremarkable dressing with shreds of fresh basil. The mozzarella was tough and chewy - chewy enough that I wondered if it was one of those blocks of rubbery mozzarella you find in the grocery store for shredding.
2. All steaks come with the mashed potatoes of sadness. All other sides are an upcharge. Theo's mashed potatoes are terrible. They are either using the previous night's baked potatoes and mashing them or they are running them through a food processor. The mashed we were served we pallid, gray, tasteless, gummy, dense, and slippery - in a word, they were awful. The chef's need to watch a YouTube video on how to make mash - what they are offering is terrible and the fact that they are served as a featured side with every steak only serves to put that incompetence on parade.
3. I ordered my steak, as the menu said "black and blue" - it should have been seared but cold in the center. I got a medium-rare filet.
Theo's is simply not a good value for the money.
