Theo's Steak, Sides & Spirits Ratings and Reviews
were here 2 years ago for our anniversary on recommendation from local merchant; had a fantastic meal so when we were able to head back again for our anniversary, I immediately booked a table. treated us to a split of procecco (ironically we had same waitress as before; who was excellent). shared a bottle of alamos Malbec, the wedge salad, porterhouse, which was cooked perfectly, grits with cheese & bacon, not my favorite but could have eaten the entire dish! as well as creamed spinach. oh and the rolls!! desserts were sea salt caramel bread pudding and brownie sundae. portions are meant to be shared; you'll have leftovers. quite the gem!
...and that's what we found. Terrific food, interesting home-like atmosphere and beautiful bar area. Everything we ordered was perfect. The fried oysters, shrimp and corn crusted rockfish, the petit filet, whipped Yukons and the creamed spinach with bacon were all very well prepared and tasted great. Definitely worthy of a return visit.
We love Theo's! The wait staff is consistently great (Audrey, Melanie, Katie, Bill), and the food is delicious! We come back time after time because we feel comfortable there, and we know it will be provide reliability, consistency, a great atmosphere and great food and drink!
Theo's menu has great variety and from our two visits, it's all good! And the portions are more than generous. The wine list is impressive but could use a few more selections below $40 dollars/bottle both in reds and whites. Service is prompt and courteous. We had a wonderful evening.
We had a reservation and was seated promptly. The wait staff were very helpful and the service was great . we had a really lovely meal. The crab cake with the corn salsa was delicious, my husband had the red snapper which he thoroughly enjoyed. We had planned to retire to the bar for a nightcap but it was really busy,( next time) Maggie Malvern
Theo's is usually a very nice restaurant with very good steak dinners. On Saturday evening we went to Theo's and order the steak on the Restaurant Week menu. It was a thin, tough steak even though the three course meal was $35.10 I should have ordered from the regular menu.
Theo's is located within walking distance of the place that we stayed. We were greeted by very friendly staff and had excellent service throughout our entire dining experience. The food was delicious! The shrimp cooked on the salt block was superb! We will definitely visit Theo's when we return.
We must have both made the wrong choice because our food was mediocre at best and our waitress was very bland too.
I had baby back ribs that were very tough and my friend had the salmon that was really salty.
I guess when you go to a steakhouse you should get a steak but the prices were very high for an a la cart steak dinner and we just weren't in the mood. Too bad for us.... :(
They really need to up their game if they want to charge those kind of prices. We may go back for a burger at lunch in the bar!
This was our first visit to St. Michaels, so we were hesitant about our restaurant choices. Theo's was a perfect place for our anniversary dinner. Our server was attentive and even took a few pictures for us. And the food was absolutely awesome! My wife ordered the cauliflower and after it was brought to the table, the manager showed up and took it away. Our server had let him know it didn't look right, and they gave us a fresh plate. Theo's was very busy, so the noise level was a little high, but well worth it for the food! I definitely will be back to Theo's the next time we are in St. Michaels!!!
Theo's is our "go to" spot for a quiet, romantic dinner in St. Michaels with consistently great food and friendly staff. They do the "steakhouse" theme well, but the surprise is interesting seafood dishes and a selection of less expensive specials that are always tempting.
This was the 4th year my husband and I have selected Theo's to celebrate Valentine's day during our annual romantic get away weekend to St. Michael's. We love the ambiance, the service and drink/menu selections. A table in the front dining room by the fireplace is our favorite. The french onion soup, mussels and oysters are great starters. The steaks - Prime NY Strip and Filet - are mouthwatering with several cuts and sauce choices (we need to go back to finish sampling each). A good variety of wine choices (both red and white) to fit any budget. From the minute we stepped into the restaurant to closing the door as we left, the service was inviting and friendly. Definitely save room for dessert - they are to die for!
We've been to Theos numerous times and the food has always been wonderful and the service impeccable. The steaks are prime cut and cooked to perfection. My husband loves the brussel sprouts but my favorite is the mac and cheese. It's even better than what my Momma used to make and that's saying something. Would highly recommend Theos whenever you're in St Michael's; just be sure to make a reservation because they're always busy.
All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience.
The food was on par with other higher end restaurants that I've been to. The angus steaks were tender, juicy and had good flavour. Their house steak sauces were excellent as well. We had their salt block seared beef as an appetizer and that was something special. It comes to the table with 8 pieces of rare tenderloin searing on a 500 degree block of salt and you finish cooking it to your preference.
The ambiance is pleasant as well. Dimly lit and in set in what appears to be a retrofitted St. Michaels home. It is a cozy atmosphere.
The price, for an Angus steak dinner w/ sides is $50/person; $75 if you got Prime.
One complaint, ice cream was icy; as if it had thawed and been refrozen.
When we arrived, we were asked to wait about 10 minutes, even though we had reservations. After we were seated, our waiter took our drink orders, but we waited 30 minutes for the cocktails. When we asked, we were told the bartender makes every drink perfectly! (He needs to learn to make them efficiently as well.) We ordered our dinners as soon as the drinks arrived, and I am very sorry to say that it took more than an hour to get our meals! Again, we asked, and later, we complained. It was always, "They'll be right out." Our reservations were for 7:45, and we finally got our meals at 9:45. The food was good, but there was no excuse for the slow service, despite our cheerful waiter's spin. Disappointing, indeed.
Okay, I have been to Theo's many times. We are locals. Having said that, the last couple of ties we went we were a bit disappointed. Either the food was off or the service was off, or both. Not horribly, just below what we had come to expect.
I was a bit nervous to take our good friends there. The are both CIA trained chefs! Well, did Theo's ever pick a perfect time to knock it out of the park!
The service was so good I thought they may have the wrong table! Not 5 minutes after we sat down, they brought a special appetizer to the table, compliments of the bartender , who "knows" us. "Happy New Year and welcome back. Great to see you!" It just got better and better from there!
Blown away! Cant wait to go back!
Great place to dine in St. Michael's, MD. Food and Service is OUTSTANDING!. First time there for New Year's eve and was pleasantly surprised. Food selection was exceptional. Prices are reasonable and small dining rooms are great for romantic atmosphere. Restaurant areas are clean with modern table settings. Highly recommend this place if you are in the St. Michael's MD area and are looking for something above the "crabs and beer" atmosphere.
Excellent food and quaint atmosphere. My husband and I came on a date thinking it wasn't child friendly. But when we arrived, children were there. Nice to know so when we want to eat at Theo's again we can take our son. The rooms were filled with couples and even large families. Yet, it wasn't loud and was incredibly comfortable. Melt in your mouth steak was served. They are not kidding with the "For 2 Sides". Would have been in heaven with just the twice baked potato but wanted to make sure every bit of the filet was enjoyed. All was enjoyed - from the appetizers to the wine to the main course to the sides. Next time room will be made for dessert.
We had an enjoyable dinner with friends and as always the service was first-rate. However, the quality of the steaks (NY Strips) that my wife and I ordered was simply not that special, especially for the price. At $37 apiece ala carte, the quality of these "not prime but still choice" steaks was disappointing. The appetizers and sides were fine, but there needs to be either an improvement in the quality of the meat or a reduction in the price, or both.
A group of four went there one being a vegetarian and they were able to accommodate us all with our different tastes. Service was excellent and served us right on time with our reservation. Presentation was excellent and with a smile. Wine by glass choice was also positive. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a nice dinner in a steakhouse atmosphere.
The food is incredible.Because the filet mignons are cooked to preference and perfection, anticipate a more lengthy stay. We had 2 preteens this time. They were good, but getting a little antsy by the time the entrees were served. The vegetables are just fantastic. I really like the fact that servings of veggies are for 2. My vegetarian granddaughter had more than enough food . Try to leave some room for dessert
The restaurant works well for both a quiet dinner for two or for a group out for an evening of celebration. We have dined there well over 20 times in the last two years and have always been pleased. The rooms have a warm ambience, the menu always has something new and the cocktails are inventive. Bill, Harley, Audrey and Laura make it the closest thing to CHEERS on the Eastern Shore. The steak selection is second to none and the oyster nights are the best part of winter. The appetizers are unique and served with a flair. Go with a smile and you won't be disappointed; It's the best addition to St Michaels in over 30 years.
The prices reflected that of a high end steakhouse. The service, portion sizes, and ambiance, however did not. The food was good-I would easily recommend this place if their prices were 30-40% lower. Expect to pay $65-95 a head after all is said and done. The menu, like most high end steakhouses, is primarily a la carte. But beginning your plate with a steak that ranges from $40-95 makes you immediately look around and wonder where you are. It may be the lack of competition in St. Mike's that allows Theo's to believe they can pass as a Morton's or Bobby Van's. but unless you are dying for a steak (in which case, drive the extra 45 mins to Annapolis) I would recommend a different establishment for dinner when in St. Mike's
We enjoyed a quiet quick getaway and found this gem of a resturant. We waited for our table and loved the energy from the bar. When seated in the dining area in front of the fire place it added the finally touches to a suprise proposal. Dinner was excellent the steak, shrimp and grits, wine, and sides were the best. We ate so much there was no room for dessert.
Steak cooked to perfection and tender
Shrimp and grits were the best I've ever eaten
Will definately return to Theo's and Harbour Inn and Spa.
Theo's has evolved into one of out top three restaurants of all time. A talented chef who never rests on past achievements and a varying menu with a terrific wait staff (attentive but unobtrusive). Eating here is like dining at a friend's home. Employees greet you by name, always have recommendations on hand (both cocktails and food) and always seem genuinely happy to see you. This a great place for a special dinner or a place to go when you just need a break! A little on the expensive side ($100+) for cocktails dinner and dessert, but the worth the price for a relaxing evening of just being pampered. Steaks are prime and cooked to perfection. The seafood is always fresh. This is not a restaurant to take small children.
We celebrated my parents' 50th anniversary here last year and their 51st this year. Our server from last year remembered us when we walked in - how lovely! We happened upon a couple who blew my parents away - they have been married for 64 years! We sent them glasses of prosecco and had a lovely chat with them and they love Theo's as much as we do. The staff - the food - all perfectly wonderful! A favorite for us in St. Michael's. We love their sister restaurant next door, Ava's, just as well but it is always packed! Open Table is wonderfully convenient for getting us a reservation at Theo's!
Theo's never disappoints. This was our third time dining at the restaurant and we couldn't have been happier. Service was prompt but did not rush, the food was outstanding, and the cocktails were superb. We sat in the upstairs area which was warm, cozy and quiet (but not too quiet) - perfect for conversation. Theo's is certainly pricey, but for a special occasion (in this case my father-in-law's 60th birthday), it hits the mark.
We are locals. The last two times we have gone and sat in the dining room the experience was sub par. Sat upstairs. Slow service but friendly. Got drinks, the waited 50 minutes for food. One burger overlooked, steak tip salad overdressed and steak tough. Ai tuna was good but small portion. Fish and chips very nice as were the Brussel sprouts.
Pretty good, but was hoping for better , as the last time was just off too. When we sit in the bar the food seems better and service quick. Maybe we will just stick with that. Reservations a must. Sister establishment, Ava's is always a winner, so we are disappointed .
