Thea is CLOSED. Thanks Open Table for being out of date and letting our group head over only to find the restaurant shut down! Thank goodness it was a Tuesday night and we were able to dine elsewhere.
restaurant was closed when we arrived!
I had called earlier in the day to make a reservation note and it seemed like the person who answered didn't know what a reservation note was. I said that we had vegetarians and one vegan in our party. When we arrived and looked at the menu, there was literally one option on the entire menu that we could have, and they were out of it. We asked about the vegetable tarine, but our server couldn't really explain this dish in depth at all. After we asked for another minute to finalize our order, our server never came back. This is where the night turned out terrible. We were literally ignored for a very long time. 15-20 mins go by and no one checks in on us. We stacked our menus to show we were done, even stacked our plates on the appetizer we had. Finally I asked for the check from a different server, and it took a long time to arrive. We just wanted to go somewhere else to eat that had more options because we were starving! The whole situation at the end with the check took another ten minutes. I will never recommend this place based on lack of service alone.
As usual, enjoyed our dinner at Thea. This is our favorite spot in Santana Row for pre-movie dinner. We were early, hence it was quiet. The menu has changed since our last visit, seems a little simpler, but my husband's lamb skewer looked terrific, and I thoroughly enjoyed the garides (shrimp). We had the saganaki starter (Thea's is one of the few that still flames it at table, our server did a great job), and the dates, which are a little sweet (of course), but very tasty morsels. My only gripe would be that they've stopped carrying any Greek or Turkish wines -- they used to have a nice greek white, I thought.
It was a positive experience overall. We waited a bit longer than expected because of a large party walked in the same time we did. The waiter kept us informed.
Sat outside, weather was great. Loved the Scotch ale.
Interesting menu and reasonable prices.
When we first arrived, we sat at the bar and tried the Sundrop cocktail, another premier cocktail and dates with bacon/bleu cheese. They were all very good. Our bartender was friendly and helpful. At the table, the four of us had a couple of appetizers (we especially loved the arancini) and the rack of lamb, swordfish kabobs (a special), salmon and moussaka as entrees. We all enjoyed our meals very much. Service was great. It’s a little pricey but then it is Santana Row. We will definitely go back.
Greek food was so very good. Service was slow but not fault of server as he was the only one working and had maybe 4-6 tables to cover. He was helpful with suggesting choices. Poor guy was working hard! More help needed.
Service got 3 stars just because he was alone in serving. He did his best and we were in no hurry.
The restaurant was completely empty at 11:30am on a Thursday. The food was great.
Enjoyed the Greek food, but outside seating was noisy due to construction nearby.
Great food, great service, and the free appetizer from Yelp made it even better. I'll be back no doubt.
Had the cioppino, substituted the mussels for scallops -- they were good, right touch. We ordered the hummus and pita bread as an appetizer, hummus was surprisingly bland. Flaming cheese plate was great. Vodka and wine list was good.
Nothing great. Highly over-priced. Food wasn't really tasty
We liked everything we ordered. Sampler and fried calamari/shrimp were great. Enjoyed Mother's Day lunch very much.
Overall a decent place. Our table was missing silverware. Had to take from a different table as we couldn't flag down one of the many employees in an almost completely empty restaurant. The menu on the website didn't match the one in the restaurant. They didn't have the mash potatoes ready for my filet mignon, gave me roasted potatoes instead. Disappointed because when you spend at a pricey restaurant you expect better, this place didn't deliver.
Nice service. However, I felt the waiter was less happy when we showed the groupon. He did not include our appetizer for a silly reason. We did not feel like arguing over that so we let it go. Overall, okay.
My chicken kabobs were excellent as usual but two of my friends ordered the filet which were both really undercooked. They had to eat around the outside of it (since they did not want to send it back).
Sitting outside was very cold. They ran out of propane for the heating lamps. My friends aren't going to let me live that down for awhile because I selected the restaurant. LOL. Thanks for asking!
Service was bad for a slow night with 3 waiters. Maybe 10 tables no large crowd...
