The York Bistro & Pub at Hilton Saint John

Wish there was more vegetarian options. Cauliflower steak was not a great attempt.

The York Bistro is the only restaurant in Uptown Saint John with a lovely view of the Harbour. (The Reversing Falls Restaurant has a view of the reversing rapids). We love this restaurant for its consistent delivery of good food and great service. The restaurant is open to the lobby, which gives a nice expansive feeling, and it morphs into a bit of a bar scene later in the night, which is fun. Often live music too, so pick your dining nights carefully if you want a quieter dinner. The menu is inventive and consistently solid - no huge surprises and typically well executed. It's not "fine dining" but it's an overall very good dining experience. We frequent the York often and will continue to do so.

Beautiful view, great food and an accommodating waitress (Thanks Elise!). We would not typically have thought to come here but will definitely return.

The menu on the app attracted me there. Once in the restaurant, the menu was not the same. Food taste like pre-made kit. Service was good and the server was friendly.

I went here for Saint John Sparkle with 4 other girls. The food was amazing. The Perogie nachos were the favourite and then the deep fried pickles and scallops. Portion size was fare for the price.

Staff were not prepared for the influx of people that made reservations or were walk ins. The waitress had not worked upstairs before but did quite well once she got her footing. Great seating and I will eat here again but not on such a busy night.

Slow to take orders and disappointing portions. One plate came late.

My daughter had the Mac and cheese and it was gritty. I had the seafood pasta which had a mound of pasta, 2 scallops and 2 shrimp. The rest was pasta, wasn’t impressed and wouldn’t visit for lunch or supper. The breakfast buffet was really good and we did enjoy that. Would only go back for breakfast.

I enjoyed the Chop Chop dinner very much. There was also lots to choose from if that
was not your preference.

Ordered muscles. They were clearly left out; cold and dry. Great server who remediate the situation. Meals are overpriced for quantity and quality. Nothing too special; hotel restaurant.

After celebrating a family birthday at the York Bistro, I would definitely recommend it Modern in appearance, it has some interesting menu items as well as some Maritime old favorites. Good environment to relax with a meal . Friendly servers. A view of the harbor and the boardwalk was an added touch. Its a place to slow down, so you might want to pass it by if you are on a tight schedule.

Good cocktails but that's about it. The service was exceptionally slow.

We made reservations on line for 4:30 and unfortunately did not realize the Chop Chop dinner began at 6pm. When we arrived we were blessed to have Deepak reschedule our reservations to a later time. He was wonderfully accommodating. The Buffett was seafood and oysters were advertised But none existed as they had apparently run out the previous day. Very disappointing as this was the top reason I was so excited to try this restaurant for the first time. Always wondered what it was like.
There were a group of very loud people at a couch section that were both rude and swore aloud. I didn't see children in attendance at the restaurant thankfully as it would have been ridiculously inappropriate for them the behave this way at 6pm.
The Buffett was good but there were no apologies or signs indicating the missing advertised item.

Have been waiting for an hour for 2 3-course meals.

We enjoyed the Thai buffet very much. The chef was very accomodating when i realized I was allergic to many of the Thai dishes. I really appreciate his effort to accomodate my allergies . The service was excellent and it is a lovely room!

We really enjoyed our time at The York Bistro and Pub. We had a great view of the harbour. The food was excellent. We had stopped for a late night coffee and dessert. Service was good and the atmosphere was really nice!

Noise from piano in stairwell was so bad we had to move to back of restaurant in breakfast area for a peaceful meal. Waitress was fantastic and accommodating. Seafood (halibut) excellent. Problem, however, with calamari - instead of crispy and flavourful it was tasteless and rubbery.

It had a nice atmosphere and friendly staff however tne value wasn't there for the price of the food.

This was our second visit to your restaurant. Our first experience was amazing. We loved our meal the food was delicious and we couldn't wait to return . Our next experience was not the same at all. The drinks were good , service was good but our meal was not. My husband meal was good but mine was below standard. I had ordered the steak that was the special. Not one thing on the plate was enjoyable. The steak was cooked as asked but the flavour was not. The steamed vegetables had no flavour as well. I was very disappointed. Also we had to wait well over a hour. So you can imagine my disappointment after waiting so long for a meal and to be that dissatisfied. The waiter did discount my meal which was nice and I appreciated that. However we were 30 minutes late for our next event and I was still hungry!
What happened to the maple Curry dish? This was amazing and really why I returned.

This was my favorite restaurant in Saint John thus far. While the service was quite slow and the food was excellent. I found the portions and quality to be really AWESOME! I was surprised that the food was actually better than Port City Royal which turned out to be quite disappointing...I would definitely recommending this as one of the restaurants to try while in Saint John.

The WORST dining experience I've ever had. The worst service ever in a restaurant, they were not prepared.

I called Hilton hotel, where the restaurant is located to provide feedback on our experience. There was a big concert in town and restaurants were booked solid. York Bistro was not well staffed at all to handle the tables yet they would have known for months how busy it would be. It resulted in very slow service, cold meal, l and very slow to accept payment. We were all extremely frustrated when we left. Overall, not a good experience.

With a beautiful view right on the Saint John waterfront, the York Bistro is a hidden gem in our city. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. My wife insists the Beet Salad is the best thing to eat in Saint John! My personal favourite is the Atlantic Seafood Purse or the PrimeTime Burger.
Although the food was delicious, and it alone will keep me coming back, the view is truly Saint John. On a calm evening, it is so relaxing and peaceful to sit at the patio and look over the harbour. The patio faces west so you get the sun all evening and the high glass that surrounds the patio prevents the wind from being a bother.

I found it odd that the restaurant takes reservations but has a sign on the counter that says to seat yourself. Eventually a staff member did find our reservation and show us to a table. The service was not great. The food was well presented and well prepared. We shared the cutting board. DH had one of the steaks and I had the scallops. I particularly liked my vegetables and the way they were prepared.

We waited 40 minutes for our appetizers and another 45 for our entrees. The only thing faster was the drinks.
The restaurant wasn't even crowded, in fact it was fairly empty.

The food was not great....the kids garden salad was all argula and baby spinach...one small mushroom and one sliced baby carrot and mini tomato sliced and there was no cucumber at all. Disappointing. The seafood purse appetizer had pureed tuna and salmon in it...no scallops or shrimp and the sauce was bland. For the entree we ordered the special of fish & chips...one very large piece of breaded haddock...the breading was very well-done (almost burnt in places) and the fish inside was soggy and not cooked in places. It was the first time in my life that I sent food back to the kitchen.

Overall...not a great evening....and we will not go back there for a meal.

We recieved wonderful service at our anniversary dinner. The meal was great and the dessert was great. View at night is great.

My husband and I dined at The York Bistro on Father's Day, June 15, 2014. It was the first time we had eaten in this establishment and I must say we were both more than pleased with both the service and food. Staff were very accommodating (I have a food allergy re shell fish) and they were very obliging in exchanging the seafood chowder for tomato basil soup, which was the best tomato soup I have ever eaten. There were no long delays, water glasses and coffee mugs were replenished without asking. All-in-all, it was a great dining experience and one that we will enjoy again.

Menu was limited the day my wife and I dined there, still excellent food (chicken nachos definitely recommended). Service was excellent as well. Location is great and convenient to downtown St John

1. It was obvious upon arrival our reservation had not been read. Specifically requested window and was seated at wall
2. Food portions sized for a child
3. Server abandoned us for 15 min at end of meal. We just put our coats on and waited at cash so we could just leave without asking for dessert or more beverages
4. Overall the interior decoration and furniture saved this location from a poor rating

Although I booked for a group (of guests from out of town) there wasn't enough wait staff working, and service was very slow. Other diners made so much noise I had trouble hearing people at my own table. (While this isn't the restaurant's fault, we should have been offered a table further from the bar area.) And the food (beef, salmon) was overcooked. Love the location, but disappointed otherwise.

We thought we would take out a work colleague and the menu for chop chop suited all 6 of us.. the pot pie was fabulous.. you ran out of the creme brule (my favorite) but all others enjoyed to black forest cake.

It was a nice experience. Service was a little slow for a business lunch but overall we enjoyed it.

It was my mothers 84th birthday. There was four ladies. The view was spectacular, the Queen Mary 2 was leaving the harbour. It was a beautiful sunny day. The food was terrific and the waiter was wonderful and attentive. We dined for 3 hours and no one rushed us, the waiter was very patient and kind and lots of smiles.
The greek salad was one of the best i have eaten.
Really enjoyed our day.

The feedback I received was that the service was extremely slow. The group arrived at 1:30 m and they didn't receive their drink orders until 2 pm and then waited another hour for the food to arrive.

Atmosphere was great, very festive for the occasion.

First time at this venue with me and my wife. We will definitively come back. The food selection is wide with some very interesting item such as bison and sturgeon. My appetizer was the trio smoked salmon, smoked trout and smoked sturgeon. my entrée was a delightful perfectly cooked Lamb.

This was my second experience - the first was Brilliant - this one wasn't. It started on well she took drink orders and delivered them however once the main course were served (no bread offered) - the food was good - not great like last time - but it was good - but then the waitress disappeared..the 2 male waiters and bartender spent the rest of the night looking for her. And I mean looking for her. We didn't get any offer of dessert or coffee and when they finally found her she well lets just say everyone was fed up. The bartender was the one to bring the dessert menus and he had no idea how to put those medal menus on the table - almost dropping them in places that they didn't fit; no coffee cups when coffee pots were finally brought

Our server was great....good strong food and wine knowledge. Excellent "up seller"...food was outstanding...excellent....couldn't have gotten a better meal in a 5 star stand-alone restaurant.

Great food. Excellent service! The best service staff in the industry! They make you feel as though you came to their own house to dine.
