The Yard Gastropub Shadyside
ALWAYS ACCEPTING WALK-IN GUESTS!
Service was A+. Our server was super sweet, always attentive and gave us great food and drink recommendations. Our food came out fast and was delicious. Would recommend!
Best philly cheese steak in Pittsburgh!
We decided to give The Yard another go, partly because we hadn't been there in a while, and partly because we forgot how underwhelming it is. What they do have is consistency, in terms of the food still being overpriced and not that great. The appetizer had to be sent back because it was still cold on the inside, the grilled cheese was a mess of over cooked and just bland, and the fries (which you pay extra for) were unseasoned.
I will say that the service was fantastic. Our service was outgoing and friendly; she seemed genuinely pleasant. She was right on refills, and made sure to stop back quickly to check on us. Her personal work is a 5-Star. It's just a pity she has to be so upbeat about serving such lackluster food.
This restaurant will not be added to our rotation.
Haven't been here in a year due to my husband's injury. This was one of his favorite casual restaurants. The menu is now much smaller. His favorite burger, the shrimp salad, and the crab grilled cheese are gone. If we weren't so hungry, we would have left. We won't be back.
Came here for mother’s day, scheduled for 4pm. I called around 1 to see if they could take us earlier and they said absolutely not, so no worries. When we showed up at 4 there was one other table... whatever. We were then seated close to the kitchen where we could hear a female server repeatedly using profane language, and on top of that service was extremely slow. Maybe it was an off day for them, but I definitely won’t be back.
Great beer list! The fare is standard bar fare, though their specialty Mac and cheese burgers are awesome. Tuesday night is 40 cent wing night.Ambiance is a rustic decor that is always appreciated in Pgh. I would check for reservations ahead of time
Pretty nice atmosphere. Food was rather subpar to be honest.
A definite stop every time I will be in Pittsburgh! Great place, friendly service and excellent food!
Food is fun and tasty. Always a fun experience for out of towners when you don't want an expensive dinner.
Food was good. Service was just ok. Our sever didn’t even tell us her name.
Great food and good selection of Beer. The staff was attentive and helpful.
We had a great time there for a Sunday night dinner with friends. The grilled cheese sandwiches, poutine, and beer selection were all delicious, though my wife did mention that her burger was a bit overdone. I was particularly impressed that the server checked in on whether we were enjoying our drinks and offered to replace any we didn't enjoy. It turned out that I didn't enjoy one of my beers and it was replaced with something else that I did--an excellent way to show you care!
I normally love this place. I think they we’re just having a bad night.
Wonderful service. Food was quick and delicious. I will definitely be back.
Hadn't been in a while........and pleased that it was as nice/fun/tasty as I remembered. Service was good and the price is reasonable. Have spoken well of the evening and hope to return when schedules allow
Food is great; menu is extensive. Manager and server were very accommodating, from suggesting taste-testing of local brews on tap to adjusting TV channels to games we wanted to watch. We were visiting Pittsburgh, wish we had The Yard in our hometown! Also, lots of Gluten Free options!
Amazing place! We are here visiting family from texas. Best grilled cheese EVER. Pierogi’s in the sandwich. OMG! And homemade chips. And the waiter was personable and friendly.
The setting was largely collegiate with lots of background noise; typical ear piercings and tatoos! The food was delicious prompt and associated with designer drinks including a 'mixed' beer AND a Moscow Mule. When I commented on the 'weak' ginger taste, the manager brought us two little drams of their brewed ginger beer for us to taste.
They have an eclectic adult grilled cheese menu, which was for the most part, pretty good. Service was slow, we waited forever for our food. Energetic atmosphere. Fun place.
The food was great food and our server Craig was awesome!
The atmosphere and food were great! We didn’t have to wait since we made a reservation through Open Table. Parking is also very close and convenient.
This location has local watering hole feel with some very interesting takes on the grilled cheese sandwich. This is a place to come to catch up with friends have a great beer and some pretty amazing comfort food. The atmosphere is casual, very relaxed and very welcoming. You have to try it out.
Food was nothing special at all, expected much more. Always heard of amazing grilled cheese specialty sandwiches, wasn't even sure there was cheese on mine. Side of Mac instead of tomato soup for $3 was good but very small, making a sandwich and chips $15. Would rate average at best, maybe expected too much from the hype, it disappointed.
Great food, great service, very accommodating, kid friendly, and fun!
The food was really enjoyable and the service was excellent.
Great location and service! Sunday brunch entrees were unique. We enjoyed trying something different --and The Yard's attentive and welcoming manager added to the experience!
Bread on grilled cheese was hard as a rock, soup was barely warm enough to eat, and the mac and cheese was just okay. Prices are not cheap so I was completely disappointed in the quality of my food.
The manager came out and made us feel so great ! Food was perfect and i didn’t get our servers name but she was amazing !!! Try the waffle and chicken sliders and Mac Attack Balls !!
Awesome wings and great service! Good for an anytime meal!
It was Sunday Brunch, but it sounded more like Friday night at a club circa 2004, with rap music blasting making it hard to hear and talk to others. The food was disgusting. My meal, consisting of eggs and cheese, was served cold and the chorizo was a disgusting mess of non complementary spices. It is Shadyside, so they overcharge and underserve you for alcohol. If you are a hungover college kid, this place is awesome. If you are middle aged and want to catch up with friends/have a few enjoyable drinks/ambiance, go somewhere else.
I had expected an amazing grilled cheese sandwich. It was good but Texas toast is just blah. The toast was so thick I didn't taste anything else. How about some homemade bread. Mancini's or Mediterra are both local amazing bread bakeries.
Unique take on a grilled cheese sandwich. Messy to eat but very tasty. Great beer selection.
Simple menu with creative variations on grilled cheese and our selection was enjoyed by all. Nice place for a beer and conversation.
tomato soup was good. service was slow. great location
Sports bar atmosphere with limited menu but plenty of beers on tap. Happy hour daily as well as daily specials. Tuesdays are 0.40 wings. They were excellent too. Enjoyed the dry rub jerk as well as the garlic parmesan! Ordered the burger which was good too. Service was good!
The food was amazing and we were seated right away. The brunch menu had so many choices! Also, bottomless mimosas are always nice!
Love the food wish the bloody Mary bar was freshen up a little. Went for brunch at noon and felt like I was getting the left over bloody Mary garnishes. The bloody Mary bar is excellent though.
I went for brunch and needless to say I will never return. My coffee and food came out cold, my bacon was undercooked and the overall taste of the food was not good.
Aside from a 40+ minute wait for our food, the food was good. In all fairness, the waitress warned us that there were 2 large parties that came in before us and that the kitchen was backed up horribly. She wasn't kidding.... took forever to get our food.
