Many guests say that "the old resort atmosphere relaxes you and takes you back to slower days." On summer evenings guests enjoy dining on the porch. In the winter they dine by a crackling fire with white linen table cloths, candlelight and fresh flowers.
We offer a varied selection of Contemporary American Cuisine prepared from local ingredients.
If your looking for a slightly out of the way restaurant then allow me to introduce you to The Would. Once there keep an open mind throughout the entire experience because when the evening is finished you’ll realize what a fantastic one it was. Drinks are made very well, and the food is cooked to perfection. Service is present when you need it. The only negative is that you’ll eventually need to leave. We invite you to try it out!
Went there for Valentines Day. Off-hand staff, waited for a table for 15 minutes, then waited about an hour for main course. When it arrived it was not what I ordered. Bear in mind we'd waited for an hour for it. Cancelled the dish and shared the one that did come. The staff then ate the wrong meal that I sent back at the bar. We paid and left, without an acknowledgement or apology of any kind. Ruined evening.
Our Valentine's Day Dinner was exceptional. Both entrees were excellent. The steak is a longtime favorite of ours and was again just right. We tried the Game Hen for the first time. I highly recommend the hen, it was meaty and juicy. The vegetables that came with the hen were perfectly cooked. Cocktails were great and were made so as not to overwhelm the liquor with the taste of the mixer. This is our "go to" place and we were a little worried that Valentine's Day might not be the best day to get good service. However, we were given flawless service with a smile. Thank you for a great dinner!
I made the reservations one week in advance on open table . I requested a corner table and stated that it was my sisters birthday.
When we arrived the hostess seem to be surprised that we were a party of five. I mentioned that I made reservations she looked and then she said oh yes. On the way to the table I also mentioned that it was my sisters birthday and the hostess stated ,”it’s a short notice “. I told her that I mentioned it when I made the reservation she said “oh”. I think she may have been a little flustered because it was going to be a busy evening, Valentine’s Day. All the other times that I have gone to The Would she’s been the perfect hostess. The restaurant was decorated beautifully. The fireplace and the warmth of the fire made our dinner experience a cozy and enjoyable time.
Other than those two issues , the food was delicious .
Our server ,Thomas was attentive and we enjoyed our evening at The Would.
My wife and I were able to enjoy a very nice birthday dinner. Tomas did an excellent job of seeing to it that we were well served. The salmon dish, calamari, and split pea soup were all superb.
This restaurant has been great a couple of times that we were there. However, we have gone there for New Years Eve the last two times we visited and both times were very disappointing.
For one thing, they have a special menu for New Year’s (both of the times we were there on the holiday), which omits a couple of really great dishes that are on their regular menu. They omitted a filet mignon dish that is outstanding and instead had a strip steak, which we both ordered. The strip steak was not very good. It was tough and dry - neither of us finished it.
The big problem we had was with the service we received. It took quite a while for our server to come to our table, but so far not so bad. We ordered dessert which included ice cream. After we ordered it, our waiter seemed to disappear for a while. After waiting 10-15 minutes and not seeing our waiter, we asked another server if they knew where he was. Apparently, they found him and he came to our table (without the dessert). We asked where the dessert was and he left and came back with it 5 minutes later and, surprise!, the ice cream was completely melted. He took the dessert off of our check, but never explained the delay.
We got the impression that the restaurant does not use their experienced wait staff for this holiday, since we had the same issues both times we came on New Years Eve. We had great service every other time we visited.
Needless to say, we will not be celebrating New Years there again!
Beautiful, out the the way location, excellent NYE menu, great service.
The food was for a bird I left hungry and for two people 170.00 is absolutely ridiculous. I will never be going back
We were at a holiday reunion. So, the tine together was precious! Our service was good. The young man was attentive. However, we needed the togetherness time to just talk without interruption. The food was outstanding! The Would always is top notch!
Went there a week before Christmas. Decorations were beautiful. Wonderful atmosphere. We were a party of 5. Everyone ordered something different. We all loved our food. Everything was excellent so I won't more you with our choices. I will definitely go again and again!!
The service was excellent, Thomas was very professional, as usual as was the rest of the wait staff. My wife loved the hot butternut squash and her scallops. I enjoyed my trout and spinach with rice. It made for a very good dinner.
Came her on a whim while passing through, everything was excellent from beginning to end, service, meal, ambiance.
Professional, courteous service and great food ! Also a pleasure to dine at the Would. It's nice having such a treasure so close to my house.
This was our first time to The Would. We loved it and will be back. Our server, Stefan, was very attentive. The food was perfect. It was a great experience.
Everything we tried was excellent. The clam appetizer was unusual and hearty; we asked for spoons to savor every last bit of the rich broth. The elegant atmosphere would make the Would a good choice for a special event dinner.
This was a return visit for my wife and I, it was well worth the visit. The service was again excellent and the food superb. The Halibut dish was truly wonderful and part of the prix fixe menu along with their salmon dish. We will return.
We really loved the chopped kale salad!! That was the only thing we really raved about. The small portion of salmon was well-cooked with a nice crispness on the outside. Everything else was good, but we may have been able to find a closer restaurant to home that had food that was just as good. They ran out of the dessert that I was looking forward to :(
The atmosphere was great - it was a freezing cold night outside and the restaurant was a comfortable temperature - no drafts! We were able to take our time eating and linger over coffee/tea and dessert.
I was glad to see vegetarian items (even though I am not vegetarian, I sometimes do not want meat). The risotto was good. Someone else had pork osso Bucco which they loved.
I’ve eaten at The Would before. It’s always a positive experience. I’ll be back!
Excellent great food and nice people good prices and a very good experience.
Outstanding awesome Bartender, awesome food , outstanding waiter
I was very disappointed in my food. I found the tuna tartare appetizer delicious but difficult to eat. My dining companion had the scallop entree. Scallops cooked perfectly! Unfortunately, I ordered shrimp and grits with andouille sausage. Sausage was bland and tasteless. Grits were not hot. Shrimp was so over cooked. Not a good dish at all. I was visiting from Florida. Don’t think I will return.
Enjoyed dinner out with friends. I ordered salmon with a Dijon sauce and diced Brussels sprouts with quinoa. Really delicious!!
Lovely, welcoming place, friendly communicative staff made us feel very welcome. And wonderful to say it was delightfully quiet enough for normal conversation... a huge blessing! My martini was perfect, short ribs excellent and well seasoned. My wife’s scallops and vegetables needed seasoning, but were otherwise fine. The lovely calamari appetizer we shared might have been better served with a more savory dipping sauce, at least in our opinion. Do not pass this place up if you are in the area because it is a treat!
Excellent food, service a wonderful restaurant. I highly recommend The Would.
Food was nice. The staff was seemingly nervous/inexperienced and overly attentive...bordering on hovering.
Went to celebrate my son’s 18th bday. Place was adorably cute, service was amazing. We loved our waitress Judy! She was a senior in college and was so super interactive with us. Even when the kitchen was backed up, she explained and apologized and kept us informed. Crispy Brussels sprout appetizer was my favorite! I got the risotto cake vegetarian dish, was delicious, my son got a steak, but asked for medium, but came rare. I told him to send it back, but he was worried, it would come back well done. My husband loved his scallops. It was a great night.
We had an amazing dinner with our friends. From the cocktails to appetizers to main course the food & service was excellent!
Thomas was great and attentive as per usual. Summer Menu selections were great. Maybe best Moscow Mule I ever had
Mahi over cooked was not terrible but not great either
Hidden gem. Ribeye was superior to one I had at a NY steakhouse and scallops tastier than a Florida fish house. And the greens were amazing.
Excellent food and service, can recommend the Scallops and Salmon, quite reasonably priced given the quality of the food. If they have pie on the desert menu, get it, amongst the best, but more a seasonal thing.
Spent a delightful evening at The Would Restaurant. Weather was terrific so we were able to have dinner outside on the porch. The service was efficient but not very warm or friendly. Food was delivered as ordered. Two of us had the BBQ ribs. The smoked flavor was great. They were delicious as were the fries. The roasted chicken was good but not flavorful. One guest had the rib steak and he thought it was very good as well. We did not have dessert. Options were not as creative as the entrees.
My husband and I have been here before but this was a first for the rest of our party. We had an amazing dining experience. It was such a relaxing evening, the weather held out and we dined outside on the covered porch. Our waitress, Amanda was delightful took care of all 9 of us! Food was fabulous!
The food was excellent and not too expensive....we would definitely recommend to our friends.
Menu was changed and new Menu was very limited. We were really looking forward to the Beef short ribs and were disappointed when we found out they were no longer available.
Love the Would. The food is always excellent. And thank you Thomas for serving us. A great meal.
Everytime we go to The Would we say we should come more often as the food is outstanding. Always innovative! Thank you
Very nice setting for pre commencement celebration, but service was very slow. Took an hour from seating to getting food.
The staff was wonderful and incredibly accommodating making my husband's 70th birthday celebration very special. The food was phenomenal and noteworthy. Although we were just visiting the Poughkeepsie area, we would make a special trip back to go to this restaurant again. Excellent experience all around.
