The fried chicken is devine!!! We started with a butter leaf salad, plenty for two and so tasty. I had an elk dish served with polenta which was also amazing!!!

We went for the Sunday night special-great for comfort, not for conscientious dieters!!!
Very LOUD. If you're hoping for intimate conversation, this is NOT the place!

We have 2 kids who love to eat (they even have a blog and had their birthday dinner at Nodoguro) They never order off the child’s menu. They are very well behaved. We did not appreciate the eye roll from the hostess when we came in with two 9 year olds. But after that the service was awesome and the boys had a blast! They can’t wait to go back!

We always have a great meal here. Great food and not over priced - well worth it . Our waitress was excellent. And they have a superb whiskey selection!

The Woodsman is a great option for anyone who doesn't want to stand on a line waiting for brunch. Brunch options were more than sufficient for all of the different diets and tastes at our table, and ranged from the classic "Eggs, bacon and toast" to Shrimp and grits or fried chicken. All of the food was well prepared, and we even got to take home leftovers, which made for a great breakfast the following day!

Wonderful tavern ambience, with the typical PDX high noise level. Restaurant designers don't seem to be very interested in acoustics.

It takes a while for things to happen. I'd describe the service as attentive, yet leisurely. The double burger was good, but why not include a single-patty option on the menu?

The french fries were amazing. Crispy on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside, like they used to be before frying in animal fat became the cause of certain death of Western civilization.

A little overpriced, pretty noisy, leisurely service, decent food. Sounds like a perfect hipster hideaway, but not someplace I'll frequent.

The food at Woodsman truly is good. Our experience tonight just lets us know that good food in a foodie city like Portland just isn’t enough.
Despite arriving just prior to our reservation time, we were given the worst table in the house. You all which one this could be.
I requested to the hostess multiple other options which would have been preferred for my birthday dinner with my wife. I was told I could wait 45 minutes while at least 8 tables were open and most remained open for over an hour. Yes, they remained vacant nearly the whole time.
Bottom line, good food or not, a bad hostess ruined the experience and we’ll never go back. Ever. Don’t recommend it to anyone.

I booked a table through the app earlier today and the restaurant never received it and didn’t have a table for us. They managed to work it out in about 20 minutes but they had no knowledge of our open table reservation.

Our waitress was good, but the bar service was pretty slow, which is unusual. Our food came out about five minutes after our drinks showed up. The second round of drinks took just as long. The waitress made it right by comping part of our bill. She was at the mercy of the bartender. Still love this place - everyone has an off night once in awhile. Great food, great drinks, reasonably priced, nice people working there and within walking distance.

The service was so great - I arrived early for my reservation, but was able to wait at the bar. Their cocktails are fantastic and imaginative. Once we were seated we ordered the guajillo pork chop and the trout, with a side of mashed potatoes and two oysters. All were so delicious, and our waitress was fantastic. Would absolutely go again.

Very unimpressive . Had brunch there but the choices were very limited. No salt or pepper on the table and the only jelly they had was jalapeño. Could hardly talk due to the noise level

Food was very good and the atmosphere is casual but cozy and more upscale than casual. Very nice interior design. I went a couple months ago and the food was hit or miss, not as good as I remember. Decided to give it another chance and good thing, the menu has changed around a bit and food has improved. Excellent bar tender too!

Menu was light on gluten free options which limited the selection for 2 of 3 guests. Reviews touted gluten free and even calling restaurant to verify. Not a BIG deal but was part of the reason for choosing place. Too late (hungry) to search and travel to a different restaurant.

We first went to the Woodsman right after it opened and have loved it ever since. Too bad they do not serve the chocolate pudding anymore, as that was THE BEST! That said, we love the Tavern.

The food and service are great. Nice wine selection (not large, but some nice wines and nice values). Portions are large, plan for taking food home. I love this restaurant, it's a fun place to eat. The only complaint I have is that it is very loud.

Delicious food and a fund atmosphere! Very meat-heavy menu, so vegetarians would be wise to look it over before going...but the meat (of all types) was super tasty. I gave four stars because the desserts were just okay. That said, we'll definitely be back!

Woodsman, as always, was a wonderful, relaxing, delicious evening meal. Only glitch was that our 5:30 reservation came up at 7:30 on WTs computer. Absolutely no problem as we were seated immediately. Just FYI. We love Woodsman Tavern!

Very nice place! Read some reviews prior to and learned that the fried chicken is the most popular item on the menu. Of course I had to give it a shot, and It did not disappoint! Also got the cheeseburger, very good!!!

Can't forget my delicious Irish coffee for dessert. They definitely know how to mix a very good drink!!!

Very underwhelming dinner and experience. With all the great restaurant options in PDX, you can see why they weren't busy on a Friday night at prime dining hours. Hadn't been there for approximately 3 months, and will not be going back anytime soon.

Food was bland, and the large steak for the table was not good at all. Vegetables (Brussel Sprouts) were probably the best items on the menu.

The service was excellent and the staff were excellent.

But the menu, and the food, were a tremendous disappointment. We expected lots of beef options - that’s what they’re famous for - but found only two: a meatloaf sandwich and a 30 oz steak. We had the sandwich and the fried chicken. The meatloaf was fine but nothing to write home about. The fried chicken was gamey and soggy. The tomato salad was buried in shaved Parmesan - late September is THE TIME for tomatoes in Oregon - we wait long enough for them - and these were totally subsumed by the thick, waxy Parmesan. Very sad.

This used to be a go to place, and we hadn't been in a while. The food was TERRIBLE. For the 3 of us, it went from bland and ordinary (not ok in Portland, and at high prices,) to gross (creamy mussels served with saltine crackers! Yikes.) The dessert, pecan pie, was so bad (bad even for remade from Safeway) I actually told the waitress, who instantly took it off the bill, as if complaints like that were not unusual. I don't know what happened here, and if you just want a drink (but not to be able to talk, because even though it wasn't full, it was SO LOUD,) that might be ok. If you want to eat, this is a place to avoid.

Wow! What a meal! We were in town visiting from Atlanta and happened to drive by and figured we'd make a reservation later that night. The ambiance and the food were just terrific and so was the service. I will caution you that the place is a bit loud, as it's a smaller space and has a lively bar top but it a fantastic place with some really interesting food choices.

So many people recco this restaurant so thought it would be a great place to take my brother who was visiting. The ambience was cool and lively. The menu is good, but very limited offerings that don't quite cover all the proteins/meal options for entrees. It was pretty pricey too. The food was definitely delicious, but I would't say outstanding, and don't need to rush to go back.
