Very nice. Highly recommend!
Great place. Wonderful atmosphere and amazing food
It was great! The server was very attentive to our needs.
Very nice place if you are looking for a quiet cozy spot to enjoy great conversation over an extremely delicious meal. The filet mignon was spot on and the veal with a pan sauce was mouth watering. Our waitress was very attentive as well as the rest of the staff as they all worked together to give us an exceptional experience. Well worth it you won't be disappointed.
Very good food and service but our server
charged us for the thing she says it was not
going to be charged.
Food was great, did not know this restaurant was still around. My husband I had one of our dates here more than 30 years ago. Beautiful and romantic, love the fireplaces!!
We always love the food and it's a great place to celebrate New Years eve.
We dined here on New Year's Eve. There was a special menu for the evening, but there were still a good many selections. The food was prepared to our liking, and there was obvious attention made to making sure the guests were taken care of.
Excellent as always, friendly staff, comfortable ambiance.
We went for an early New Year's Eve dinner and weren't disappointed. The atmosphere was cosy and elegant, with soft christmas lights and a fire in the fireplace. The service was excellent and attentive. We enjoyed the vanilla shrimp appetizer and the steak, lobster and lamb entrees were delicious. The only area where food fell short was the risotto which came in a very large portion with both of our meals and was very heavy and pasty... neither of us ate much of it. The brussels sprouts were ok, but a little bland. Other than that, we enjoyed the meal! The prices were on the high side with most of the entrees starting around $30 and going up to about $60.
this is the second time I went for dinner - enjoyed the food immensely both times - very elegant upscale dining experiences. Raved about the food
In my opinion, it would be hard to find any steaks in the Pittsburgh area that are better prepared than those at the Wooden Nickel. In addition, the service was very knowledgeable and friendly. (Katlyn) Look forward to going again soon.
We had my wife’s birthday dinner her again. We had the scotch eggs for the appetizer . For dinner the lamb chops and crab cakes both excellent.
Very comfortable , atmosphere was great had a very good experience.
This restaurant is quite the find, drove by it many times, first time here. The food was very good, I ordered the salmon oscar, the salmon was not dry with plenty of crab flakes and delicious asparagus. The sirloin was just as good, well cooked, with the potatoes that were seasoned well. The waitress was very friendly, and the restaurant was very clean and just well decorated. Definitely will go here again!!!
Was pleasantly surprised... drove by this restaurant for YEARS but had never been there. It was excellent. Pricey but worth the $. Excellent service. We appreciated the spacing between tables, it was nice to not be on top of your "neighbor." A great special occasion restaurant.
I took a friend there for lunch. The food was good. We both had the Pittsburgh salad. We had hot tea. My only complaint was the water was only lukewarm. They did bring me a new pot of water which was hot when I requested it.
The three of us each got something different...Meatloaf, Filet Oscar and scallops.
Everything was so good...wonderful restaurant and have never been disappointed.
A true culinary delight in the suburbs. Excellent food and service.
One of the few non-chain restaurants left in Monroeville
This was the first time I was at this restaurant and went at the recommendation of a friend. The food was excellent - fine dining at its best. The wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. I also liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. My friend and I are already making plans to return perhaps around the holidays. Great overall experience
Ambience was nice waitress was pleasant but took too long to get a second drink
We ate there last Wednesday and had a 7pm reso. When we walked in you can hear a baby screaming and crying in the dining room so the host asked if the bar area was ok since the baby had been crying for awhile...we said yes. We got sat in the bar area and it took 15 minutes for a server to come over. We ordered a beer and a wine along with a calamari app which was great!! Our server brought us our app and took our dinner order. We weren't finished with our appetizer and our meals came. We got crabcakes and the scallops...both were very good. After we were done with our meals it took her a long time to check on us and give us our bill. It seemed like she was more interested in going outside to smoke and talk to the bar crowd then give us good service. We will be back for the food and hopefully the service is more attentive.
Ok food - wine by the glass special on Wednesdays
Came in pretty late for dinner, about 8:45 on a Wednesday, so it was pretty quiet already. It was our first time there, and the server was very attentive and answered our questions.
The atmosphere was really nice but only 3 people truly enjoyed the food out of 15, they are a lil too light on the sauce and seasoning. Our server seemed to be annoyed until my husband asked her if we were bothering her with our request, then she was fine afterwards! We spent a little under $500 and I myself was not happy with the experience. It was my son's 21st birthday and he was disappointed in his meal.
Everything was fine except we were not informed that tip was automatically added for a party our size. However, when I called the manager to discuss she graciously said she would refund the overpayment.
Went on Mother's day. Only a limited menu was available. Ordered prime rib medium but came medium well. Rolls seem to be store bought.
Granted we went on Mother's Day with a fixed menu, but we were not overall pleased. Once seated, we were told by the waitress that they were already out of a few things from the already limited amount of selections. She said it was because we were dining so late. This was a 4:30pm dinner, so I would hate to see what was left if we would have come at 6pm. The service was slow in our opinion. We were asked if we wanted desert which we replied no, so the waitress left we assumed to go get our checks. She came back several minutes later with no checks and only to ask if we wanted desert again. We told her that she had already asked us that, so then she had to leave again to go get the checks which caused us to wait longer. For the price paid, I felt the portions were too small. A small salad, 4 oz. filet(seemed even smaller), and a scoop of mashed potatoes for $24 is not good value. My brother had the same meal and was not pleased with the portions nor taste of his entire meal. The brussel sprouts were undercooked and not edible. We definitely will be dining elsewhere for Mothers Day next year.
The menu selection was very sparse due to it being Mother's Day. The service was VERY SLOW! The food was not good....you needed a steak knife to cut the chicken. And the chicken was dry! Will not make reservations for any future Mother's Day. I have been here on other occasions and have had a much better experience. Now I know not to come here on special occasions/holidays.
Went with a group of 7 for Mother's Day. Food wasn't as good as I've had previously, and my mother in law had to send back her steak 3 times for it not being cooked to her liking. However the manager took her meal off our bill and gave her some lobster Mac to take home.
We had reservations for 3 people at 2 o'clock. When we got there and checked in the hostess said it would be a few minutes. Twenty minutes had passed and we asked her how much longer she said 5 more minutes. When she came to get us she says your with the party of 10? We said no? We checked in with her from the start and said we were the party of three. She Walked us to the dining area and then left us standing in the middle of everyone eating and didn't show us our table. Finally as two more
Minutes passed she came back and our table was still not ready. We asked to be able to sit down because we felt awkward standing in the middle of the room as everyone was eating. We never received bread plates. We asked the server for them and they never came. The coffee was cold. For the second cup she said she would brew a new pot and that took 15 minutes. Overall the service was poor, we looked around and felt like our table was the only one getting bad service. My water cup was empty and when I asked for more I felt like the server was annoyed. Overall we do not plan to return.
Great food, great service. However the service was slow, however I believe it's meant to be that way to add to the experience. If you are in a hurry think twice about going here. But if you enjoy the long dining experience then this place is amazing.
There were three of us having dinner that evening, two were celebrating birthdays. I ordered Scallops with vegetables, DH had Parmesean encrusted chicken, and friend had Salmon over a bed of spinach. We were all pleased with our meals, the service could not have been better and the Birthday desserts were delightful (comped). I liked that the chef came to our table to inquire how we liked our meals. The meals included a soup or salad, both of which were perfect. I would definitely return here.
Made 8:15pm reservation (accepted by restaurant). Kitchen closed at 8pm. No call to let us know. Oh well.
Everything was good, food price too high to go often.
We went for Easter and had an enjoyable experience. The fried risotto was absolutely amazing and if it isn't on the regular menu, it should be! The prime rib was ordered medium rare and came out a little more done than that, but the salmon was good.
Eaten there several times and food was always good. Fries were cold and hard. portions were smaller than usual and was over charged. Prices were less on the website than on menu. Waitress left a lot to be desired. Will probably not be back.
Great Food! Great atmosphere! Wonderful BIG desserts! Great for a nice date!
