The Wooden Nickel Restaurant & Lounge - Monroeville
It was a lovely experience we had a great table, our waitress Kim was knowledgeable about the menu and extremely friendly and attentive.
They took our reservation for a large party on very short notice which really helped me out of a jam. The service staff was pleasant and attentive. The appetizers were very good. The meals were good. The desserts were not great. The cocktails were just OK. The decor was a bit dated but clean. There price tag was on the higher side. Overall, I would visit again, but it certainly won’t be a “go to” restaurant for me.
Service was just right. Prompt, but not intrusive. Food was very good. The Wooden Nickel was not to crowded so we were able to have 2 1/2 hours of conversation in a very nice atmosphere. I'd go back again.
Amazing food service and environment. Plenty of food for the price.
Lovely place...good service. The food was good, but not exceptional.
Lunch with a friend, wanted a place to have quiet conversation, this was perfect. Food was excellent and service was great. I really enjoy this restaurant, and love their house vinagrette salad dressing. Staff is wonderful, easy to get to, easy to park and get inside.
Great service. Great food. Great birthday lunch or dinner location. Beautiful interior decorations and design.
Exceptional food and service. A little loud but not a deal breaker.
We both enjoyed our meals and the service was good. This is an expensive restaurant for the Pittsburgh area and you can find similar fare at a lower price.
We celebrated Father's Day at Wooden Nickel with a family dinner. Everyone found something that was perfect for their tastes. The special that night was lamb chops - pricey, but well worth it. The best lamb chops we've ever had, and the portions were huge, cooked to perfection.
I've always loved their salads and the house dressing, a champagne vinegrette that is one of my favorite dressings of any restaurant. For those who ordered seafood, it was super fresh, and cooked just right.
It's a great old world style restaurant, with white table clothes, excellent service and an incredible meal. A great place to celebrate any special occasoin. The service is truly impeccable. We'll be back for the next celebration.
We got a reservation right away, but when we arrived we were told it would be a little wait...40 minutes later we were seated. It was clear they were grossly understaffed. Food was average and a bit pricey.
There appeared to be 2 waitresses for the entire restaurant and the one doubled as a bartender. She did her very best and all with a smile...which we did appreciate! We won't go back.
Food and staff were great
We had reservations for 11:00 am on a Sunday. There was confusion with the opening and we didn't get seated for about 15 minutes or so. As we were in no rush, we just waited. Not a complaint, actually, just an observation. Certainly no complaints about the service or the food. We were the only customers in the place for a while and it was great to be able to relax, chat, eat very good food. Will definitely go back again. There were three of us who each drove 35-45 minutes to get there; it was worth it.
Excellent meal and excellent service! They made a point of mentioning that we were celebrating our anniversary and they could not have been more attentive.
My girlfriend brought me here for my birthday, I had never been to the wooden Nickel. I was pleasantly surprised, the outside of the building is deceiving. Once I got inside I was surprised how nice it was. Honestly it was the best steak I’ve had and the service was fantastic.
Service was great and we were all happy with our meals.
We had a wonderful Mother’s Day dinner!!
One of us had the Gilet, two had the Salmon, one had the Shrimp and Pasta and the other had the Lobster Mac and Cheese. Everything was delicious. Two people had never been here for dinner but said they were definitely coming back. The rest of us keep coming back for more!
I love The Wooden Nickel; I used to think it was our secret place..but now it’s become very popular which is great!!!
Great food & atmosphere!!
Mother’s Day not the day to go!!! Service was slow and had limited menu. Steaks not cooked properly, very bloody after being sent back 3 times!! And price very high for portion!! Also added 20% tip which is not right for slow service and waitresses fighting over who was going to wait on us!
We had a reservation for Mother's Day. When we arrived, the party previously at "our table" had not left yet and it was nearly 30 minutes after our reservation time before we were finally seated. This seems like a situation a restaurant should know how to handle, especially on a holiday where you might expect a lot of larger parties like Mother's Day. After we were seated, everything seemed OK - great server, and our drinks, salads, and appetizers came out quickly and were pretty good. But then, one person at our table had ordered the pasta with crab and they ran out of crab so they just brought it out with shrimp on top without notifying him/asking him if that was OK first. What if he had been allergic to shrimp, or just not liked or wanted it? Seemed amateurish. Also two people at our table got the chicken parm, and both said it was dry and flavorless, and neither took more than a bite or two. Normally I wouldn't even mention the chicken parm, but it was $21, which is a lot of money to spend on something semi-basic, so it ought to be really good. Overall, a super-expensive but mediocre experience. Won't be returning.
Horrible! Poor service, poor seating , inedible food - raw entrees and overcooked vegetables- so disappointed and we had a reservation
We wanted to sit outside but we also wanted to order from the bar menu because we were really in the mood for delicious burgers but you can’t have both! So we had a bigger dinner and it was fine and our server was terrific
When we arrived, the hostess was very polite, we were an hour early ( my fault!) and she said it was 100% fine, there was no problems, she was very accommodating and kind about my error ! We went to the bar, had a few drinks, enjoyed ourselves there while we waited for the rest of our party . Our waitress was amazing. She was knowledgeable about the menu, food choices and side dishes. She was there when we needed her and not when we didn't! Our water glasses were filled, our plates were removed our dinner was fabulous! We had brought a cake and it was offered without a hassle and at the perfect time! Even though you could have told us we should order dessert from your restaurant! If you could clone Kim ( our waitress) you should! We were celebrating my Moms birthday and had a terrific time. Thank you so much !
PS we have been there before, and of course enjoyed ourselves, but this visit was outstanding ! THANK YOU !
The food was good but the service was very poor. The staff catered to what seemed to be their regular customers and were not attentive otherwise.
Food was delicious! I got the veal and my husband ordered the filet. Both were outstanding!
Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. It's always a pleasure to dine here and feel welcomed.
It’s probably been 10 years since we last were at the Wooden Nickel. I remember their Greta barbecue shrimp, filet and pasta dishes. Everything has changed. The place was pretty quiet for a Friday night. The angel hair with crab and shrimp was good. So disappointed with the chicken parm! Chicken was dry, tough, over cooked with heavy breading and I believe deep fried so rock hard. Pasta was overcooked and gummy, with watery chopped tomatoes that really didn’t qualify as sauce. No sauce on chicken and barely any ‘parm’. Just awful. Our server was very prompt and pleasant. No complaints on that. I did not send back my dinner so s not to make a fuss but two of us had the chicken parm and we will not go back.
Sad to see the smoked salmon club sandwich has been removed from the menu. Good experience overall.
Very good food, value for the price! We will be back!
The ambiance is wonderful, food is delicious. We enjoyed our food so much. I would highly recommend!
The food was superb and the service spot on! Truly an enjoyable dining experience!
This place is s hidden jewel in the Monroeville area. The staff was excellent and food delicious. The food was reasonable priced in such a beautiful atmosphere
Everyone was so kind and we sat at a table by the fireplace and it was so welcoming
The service Lisa Hughes greeted us warmly when we entered and was so gracious and attentive. The food was delicious and the proportions were so generous that what I took home I enjoyed it again the next day.
This was our first visit but will not be our last. We are excited to hear about the Jazz music offered that we have spread the news to our "Jazz gang". We get together often and love wonderful places to go to enjoy an evening. Our friend Etta Cox has sung there while we were out of town or our visit would have been much sooner. ( PS We hope that she will be there again soon, for it is very close to our home! )
Thank you again and give our regards to Lisa. We found out before leaving that she was also a Hughes...just no relation. Her professionalism would make us proud to have her in our "clan".
The restaurant was a touch hard to find (Maps and Waze both failed) but it's a hidden gem. The food was great, wine selection excellent. The big mystery was why it was so deserted.
I love this restaurant and have been coming here for years.A special event always require us to dine here. This time it was a little different. One of our guests had ordered tuna.It was way overcooked and she didn't eat it.They were nice to deduct it from the bill.I usually eat the filet or a salmon dish. This time I ordered the $30 salmon Oscar. It was good but the portion comprised of maybe 4 bites.I was surprised since ,in the past the portions were very appropriate
Beautiful atmosphere, our Marylou waitress was great. Dinner was delicious.
My wife and I celebrated our birthdays there. First time we visited, and have found ourselves a new favorite upscale place to dine. The cost was reasonable even with drinks. I've paid twice this for other places that weren't as good service and food. Bravo Wooden Nickel, you have gotten a new life long customer.
The waitress was really friendly, nice and efficient. Hostess cleaning tables used ammonia based cleaner which was ruining taste of food. Maybe use at end of night not when customers still dining at table night to the ones your cleaning. Room lighting too bright. Beautiful room just too bright.
