The Wooden Crate
We welcome you to join us for breakfast, lunch or dinner at our beautiful upcountry retreat property. We are the perfect setting for long table gatherings, intimate celebrations and those looking for locally grown, wholesome fare.
Please note that we occasionally close to provide full meal service to educational retreat groups staying at Lumeria Maui. Please make reservations for dinner at least 24 hrs in advance. We recommend reservations for lunch as well, or give us a call before you swing by!
The menu was my idea of heaven and the food did not disappoint. Fresh, delicious, healthy and in a beautiful setting.
Délicieux, des saveurs, comme dans un restaurant gastronomique
Gorgeous, intimate setting with a tasteful, fresh and simple nightly selection. We arrived a bit early for a self guided grounds tour and a fabulous massage in the spa. Will definitely be returning!
We dined at the Wooden Crate while staying at Lumeria and it was fantastic all around. Fresh farm to table fixed menu dinner which happened to be a kale salad, seared ahi tuna with amazing vegetables and a chocolate mousse dessert. All excellent and mouth watering. We also ordered shrimp skewers and a bottle of wine. Romantic ambiance outside on the deck and great service. Would highly recommend!
Best meal I've had on Maui. We were all so pleasantly surprised. Made for a memorable Christmas dinner.
Peaceful and relaxing as well as delicious! We enjoyed our time there very much.
Great experience the lamb was excellent with blueberry sauce and the salad with beet dressing was amazing with the flavor of beets in every bite
Absolutely gorgeous surrounding ,
Thanks for accommodating all the dietary restrictions and the attentiveness of Renée was a real delight and joy.
Coming back from Hana we didn't have time to go back and came to the property a bit too on the casual side but nevertheless felt very welcomed.
The food taste notes were well paired and balanced, well presented and everything superlative fresh.
Great setting on porch. Set menu and each course was great. They do have wine and beer options to go with dinner. No cocktails, but that was fine.
We ended up at Lumeria where The Wooden Crate is located at 4am in the morning due to a flight cancellation. The staff at the center were very helpful and we ended up having lunch and dinner at the
Wooden Crate. Dinner was outstanding, we both had Opa which I think was off the menu and it was
wonderful as was the general ambience. The salad was also terrific.
We ended up at Lumeria by accident but highly recommend it and will probably revisit.
From the moment we walked in, the service was amazing. Our server as well as others working were very attentive, friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable of the menu. The table we were at was very intimate and overall the environment was quiet and romantic. The food was phenomenal, especially the vinaigrette on the salad and the tempeh. As a vegan, it was amazing to have such a delicious, well-crafted meal that was more than just a salad (although that salad was divine). I would encourage anyone visiting Maui to make the Wooden Crate part of their trip.
We stayed at the resort two nights. The first night the food was amazing and the service was top notch. The second night, the entree was the same as the night before (Opah). My wife had it anyway and I opted for the vegan plate. Both her portion and mine seemed very small compared to the night before and we both left still hungry. We each had 2 glasses of wine and the bill was $142 plus tip. For that price I don't expect to leave hungry. I have mixed feelings about the place. 5 stars for dinner Saturday and 3 for dinner Sunday
Jess is amazing!!!!!
Quite pleased with our choice. We went on a Thursday night which had a special for kama'aina, a prix fixe menu of $40 with Caesar salad (vegan Caesar dressing, real cheese and croutons), choice of blue marlin or tofu or cauliflower steak, lilikoi haupia or lilikoi bar with whipped cream. The other diners thought it was an awesome meal. Food was generous in proportion. The salad was a dinner plate size and outstanding. One of the better Caesar salads I've had at a restaurant, with sunflower sprouts and fresh salad greens. They were not huge leaves of lettuce like at some places and it wasn't drenched in dressing nor skimpy. I had tofu, 2 large rectangular pieces of tofu over rice and a creamy like coconut lemongrass kind of cream. It was more than enough food. I was stuffed after eating 1 1/2 pieces of tofu. The tofu was firm and grilled and tasty. The rice was flavored well, and tasty, but a little undercooked. Not enough to not want to eat it, but just a slight bit. Still very delicious. We gulped our food. I tasted the marlin too, it was a generous size, more than 4 oz cooked. There was also some sauteed kale over the rice, also a good flavor. Dessert was lilikoi haupio, coconut custard, which was yummy. I also tried the lilikoi bar which was a more chewy dessert, kind of like a lemon bar. It was a quiet evening. Only 2 other tables were seated, so maybe 12 people total for the entire night. Server was nice but a little slow. Maybe used to a more mellow pace and who can blame her? Coffee was good too.
Small outdoor venue with limited seating and only the sound of birds. Great vegetables & fish.
Super good food and service for an amazing price considering the level of cooking and ingredients. Ambience is not ocean view obviously but serene and calm and you know what, that’s what upcountry is all about.
excellent food in a serene beautiful location. Highly recommend
Idea of the menu and ingredients is great, delivery leaves a lot to be desired. Food was not elevated at all...
Very healthy cuisine perfectly prepared. One has to be attuned to the value of finest fresh ingredients and of tasting their individual elements. Delightfully presented in a very serene rustic atmosphere.
We've been here once in the past. The food was great. We are vegetarian and vegan so seek these places out. The ambiance is perfect: quiet and peaceful. You gaze at a zen garden while you consume your healthy meal.
Today, the buffet breakfast was a bust.
All the food was sitting out in containers and the hot food was not hot at all. The oatmeal was cold.
The cook did make a fresh batch of eggs for me which was nice but the server never checked on us to see if we needed anything.
It was a disappointment today, unfortunately.
We always enjoy dining here. The food is incredibly fresh and tasty. We introduced the place to friends who live up the road and they'll be dining here too! Wines are a bit pricey so next time I'll ask if we can bring our own for a corkage fee. Definitely recommend it!
Great location, great food, and the best is the staff to make you enjoy all they offer....Mahalo
Amazing. Loved the intimate feel. More like being at someone’s home. Stayed two nights by myself at Lumeria and I couldn’t wait to get there at 6:30 for my dinner and wine. Both meals were just amazing. From farm fresh salad to fish to desert. The veggie sandwich at lunch is insane too!!!!
If a restaurant can serve us a decent 3 course vegan meal without a lot of advanced notice, that gets major points in my books. Service was prompt and on the ball. The crowd probably varies quite a bit. During our meal, a family in t-shirts dined next to a couple with a Dior purse and a collared shirt. Food seemed deceptively simple but was well executed.
Fabulous upcountry location, attentive service, amazing food
I ate at the wooden crate in March of 2018 and it was great. Now I’m back in December and it was lackluster. I am so shocked to sit down at a self proclaimed health and wellness center and have Marlin as the only offering on the menu. Marlin is commonly known to be very high in mercury. Not a fish I would ever choose to eat. Sadly I was already locked in to dinner and so I picked around it. The waitresses were loud in chatting with each other. I could hear that I was our waitresses last table and sure enough she was rushing us. My boyfriend was visibly lifting the fork to his mouth when she asked if he was done with his meal. There’s food on his plate, he’s actively eating ... UMMMMM???!! For 80 $ a head, I’ll skip it. Also they need to post their menu daily so folks know what theyre in for. I never would have come for marlin ... embarrassing.
Best veggie burger EVAH
Delicious three course meal, and great ambiance. We were one of a few here on the patio. Quiet and serene. Great service and delicious meal.
We had some time to kill before our flight back to California so we decided to drive upcountry. I queried Open Table and this restaurant got rave reviews. It is a retreat which is situated in an incredibly beautiful location surrounded by gardens. Our server Rory was wonderful, as were our meals. It was hard to decide if we like the veggie burger or meat burger better. A very enjoyable, delicious and peaceful lunch before heading to the airport.
The best ever
What a beautiful property, we walked the grounds after our meal. the entire experience was well worth the drive (we were staying on Wailea). The food was very high quality farm-to-table and creative. Delicious. Attentive service and very kind. Everything was perfect. A great destination-dining experience. Will definitely go back on our next trip to Maui.
Amazing fresh farm to table dining! We were served the A’u and was also hooked up with some fresh mahi from the chef. Amazing experience! The perfect for a quiet date. Definitely going again!
Always a wonderful experience!! Food is amazing!! Ambiance is perfect! Always love our visits to Wooden Crate!
This place was a great find! Everything was wonderful and the experience was a nice break from typical tourist stuff.
A terrific breakfast! Eggs, turkey sausage, gluten free bread...yummy!!
Wonderful fresh salad and dinner, avocado chocolate mousse was amazing!
Very quiet and beautiful location. We are vegan and by letting them know the day before were able to enjoy an incredible 3 course meal. Highly recommend
They have a great prefixed meal that changes every night depending on what's available. Their salad was incredible with amazing greens and edible flowers. Their main dish was a great portion of local fish and vegetables eloquently presented to you. You can't forget their delicious dessert!
Also, I was happy to find out that Thursday they have their Kama'aina night. I'd highly recommend going to them for dinner. I can't wait to go back!
The wooden crate is awesome! Best kept secret in upcountry Maui. Best deal for breakfast on the island hands down, and the nightly chef’s table dinners are elegant and romantic. They get extra points because even though dinners are a fixed menu, they do adjust for any special dietary requirements.
The Wooden Crate is rated 4.9 stars by 68 OpenTable diners.
