About The Winery Restaurant

The Winery Restaurant has been an icon among western Colorado restaurants for over 35 years. The restaurant makes its home in a 95 year old building that used to house a horse drawn fire station. A gas lamp lit, grapevine canopied alley frames this romantic location perfectly. The beautifully remodeled building contains flowered stain glass windows, barn wood and bricks.

Steve Thoms acquired the restaurant in late June of 2004 after taking a couple of years off from his previous restaurant. His mission at he Winery is simple: Show the restaurant and its patrons the attention that they deserve. Use only top quality ingredients, and establish The Winery as the premiere restaurant in the Grand Junction area.

The Winery provides a variety of steaks, chicken, pork and fresh seafood specials nightly in an atmosphere that can not be rivaled anywhere!

Dinner at The Winery was amazing. A little pricey, but definitely worth it. Both of our meals were incredible!

Went to The Winery for a first date because I wanted to make a good first impression and just like I thought, the restaurant delivered. The service was excellent, the food was exceptional, and the environment was very comfortable. My date was very thankful for me taking her there since it was her first time. It's not a cheap meal, but you definitely get what u pay for. The food is great and my water glass was never under half full the whole night. I will definitely recommend The Winery to my friends and family!

Everything was good but I think is too much expensive.good service except the ticket ,we were celebrating my friend birthday and didn’t ask for a desert but they gave us one anyway. The waitress said it was from the restaurant so we accepted.we didn’t want to be rude but what a gift, they charged us this $12.99 for that, I think that was very rude and disrespectful.so we pay and left. The dessert wasn’t any good and we didn’t choose it!i almost forgot that they were cleaning everything so we have to go even we were having drinks.

Our table was Very loud & the manager visited our table & said, “he wasn’t going to apologize for being busy”. Two of us got very sick immediately after our dinner. Our server was awesome though!!

Overall a very good restaurant. Very consistent in quality. There fish servings are small. I new that coming in and ordered the sea bass knowing that. Very tasty but still for the price the size of the fish fillet is small. I look at the winery as more of a chop house style restaurant and I know that with any of the meat dishes you order you won't be disappointed. Staff friendly and professional.

It was my sons birthday and I wanted a nice setting for the celebration. We relocated to Grand Junction quite recently and I was pleased to find an upscale restaurant here. My son had Chilean Sea Bass, his wife had the Filet Mignon and I had the Filet Oscar, everything was perfect.
The waiter was excellant, even got my coat for me. We'll be back!

The Winery was a fabulous place to celebrate our anniversary! The food was top-notch, the wine list extensive, the service very attentive (without interfering with conversation) and the atmosphere very comfortable. A hidden retreat from the ordinary.

This was our second golf trip to Grand Junction and our second trip to The Winery. Dinner at The Winery was a must do for our group. There are 12 of us (mostly senior citizens) and I believe we had the same server both years. Our server was very patient with our group.
The food was exceptional! My only criticism is that the food was so good, I ate it all and didn't have room for dessert.
We'll see you next year!

The food was okay, but for the price I would not consider it a great experience. For a place that has a lot of red meat on the menu, they would do well to figure out how to prepare steaks like competitive steakhouses. There is another higher end restaurant nearby (whose name I won't mention here) that is similarly priced but provides a better dining experience.

I was in town on business and chose this restaurant based upon open table reviews. Although my experience here was satisfactory, the food was good (not excellent) and for the price a bit disappointing. I had the lamb chop special with a cherry glaze. The glaze was good and the chops average. Although the portion was sufficient for me, it would not have been for a hearty appetite. This is probably a good restaurant for this area, but compared to many that I have eaten at overall it was ok.

Even though this restaurant was never an actual winery, The Winery delivers many strong points.

We arrived at 4:40 for a 5:00 reservation and were seated in the lounge until a table was ready. I had the Peach Sangria and my wife had the Peach Martini, both of which were excellent. We were seated at about 10 til 5:00 and our server greeted us warmly.

We decided to try a couple of apps, one being something we'd never heard of called "Bone-in Bacon", which was more like a pork rib. It was prepared with a wine reduction glaze, picked carrots and a wine sauce. The only reason I didn't give the food give stars was that this dish was burnt in spots and the taste of char was very present. Not enough for us to send it back, though...

We also had their riff on an Insalata Caprese with Frisee and local heirloom tomatoes, which was very good but could've used a titch more balsamic to our taste.

Rather than trying two entrees, we opted to spilt their play on surf-and-turf, the Mixed Grill – Tournedos And Sea Scallops, which is tournedos of beef tenderloin with a mushroom cognac sauce and pan seared sea scallops with macadamia nut spinach pesto. This was very tasty and our server had the kitchen split the proteins so we each could have a side.

Last but not least was dessert, which was complimentary because we were celebrating my birthday. We opted for The Palisade, The Winery’s signature dessert, a five layer chocolate mousse pie: Oreo cookie crust, chocolate crownie, chocolate ganache, chocolate mousse, white chocolate drizzle and a chocolate sail all served on a seedless red raspberry sauce. Decadent, rich, YUMMY! Couldn't finish it all and our server was happy to box up the leftovers.

Overall, an outstanding experience with a couple of minor hiccups that absolutely would NOT detract from us returning.

My husband and I chose the Winery for our anniversary dinner because the atmosphere is cozy, romantic, and less pretentious than some other local restaurants. The food is good and the service outstanding. Thanks, Winery staff!

We planned a very special evening to celebrate an important day. We were given several very strong recommendations to dine here for special occasions. The place was nice but after waiting 1-1/2 hours for our food to arrive we were long past hungry and did not take but a bit of our entree. Nice place if you prepare by eating somewhere else prior to hold off your hunger while waiting for your meal to be served

Sometimes you just order the wrong thing, but both my husband and my orders were disappointing. And they were expensive too. I ordered the lamb chop special. It came with gloppy cream sauce, breaded zucchini and potatoes. If I ate all that fattening food I'd be sick. The lamb was so tough it was inedible. My husband ordered the mixed grill. The scallops were mushy but his steak was good at least. So, I thought I'll just skip my dinner and have ice cream for dessert. Well, two scoops cost $11. No thanks. We won't be going back.

We went to the Winery to celebrate our anniversary. Everything was perfect. The Hostess, our wait staff, the meal and preparation. It all combined for a great evening. Even the owner stopped by our table two or three times to check on things. Highly recommend the Winery.

Our server, Will, was excellent!!! My husband ordered the monster (30 oz) T-Bone without asking the price.. $60 !.it was pricey, but did not taste extraordinary... it was ok...I had the mixed grill, sea scallops & beef tournedos, (sp.?) which was Ok, the scallops were probably bay scallops, small guys... I really think that business would be better if their pricing on entrees was re-worked. The restaurant is nice, good decor.

We love The Winery. Everything went well. The food was excellent. The table ideal. Service was very good if a touch slow but perhaps that was not the servers doing? The only negative was there was table that came in after us a short distance away that were inappropriately rowdy and loud as if they thought they were at Country Jam. Not The Winery's fault these people showed up. We attend the winery on rare special occasions, like an anniversary, to actually get away from that kind of behavior though. We do feel it was bad enough that the server or management should have tended to matter. (maybe they did after we left?)

I was looking for a restaurant to go along with our weekend in Palisade wine country and the ambiance of this restaurant fit that perfectly. We made a reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival, granted the place was mostly empty at 8:30 on a Saturday night. The service was excellent and the entire waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The wine and drink list were not only extensive, but included a lot of local wines and liquors which was nice to see. The menu included a lot of local ingredients as well, and for the most part was well prepared, most notably the appetizers. For our entrees my fiance and I both ordered steaks, her the filet and me the porterhouse, which was a special of theirs for the evening. Despite ordering the filet medium and the porterhouse medium rare, I'm not sure if the waitress noted them incorrectly or the chef cooked them incorrectly, but the filet came out medium rare and the porterhouse medium. She was fine with the filet as it was and really enjoyed it. As for the porterhouse, it was overcooked and there was no sear on it so it was definitely a let down and the low point of the meal for me. We shared a dessert and a specialty coffee after, both of which were delicious and a good close to the meal. I would definitely go back and recommend this restaurant to friends, I would just avoid the steaks next time because they can't seem to cook them correctly. Everything else was well worth the money.
