Possibly the noisiest restaurant I have ever (almost) dined in. Horrible acoustics coupled with live entertainment made it impossible to have a conversation without shouting, the booths were claustrophobic for four people, the drinks were peculiar tasting, and the service was slow. We left before ordering our entree and. This may be THE most disappointing restaurant I have ever (almost) eaten in.
Great food and friendly service one of Newport’s best
Requested a window seat, but were sat in the middle of the restaurant. Asked if we could have one of the several open tables at the window and were told that it was for customers that requested in advance (which we did). Also, noted that this visit was for our birthdays in our Open Table reservation and they were unaware. Filet was average at best.
Valentines Day dinner. Turns out this is less of a restaurant and more of a lounge/bar geared towards customers that are very well off or at least people who try incredibly hard to appear as such. Nothing wrong with that of course, however, the food and the service were not inline with the price tag. We paid $300 (no wine) for a mediocre set meal that should have been closer to $100 incl tip. Even the lobster at an Outback is better and how can’t they even get the bread right? The food seemed like a buffet level afterthought, it reminded me of what you would expect at a busy wedding. Now, we’d had much pricier romantic dinners in the Hollywood area but they’d always been worth it. This one was not. I’m not saying this is a terrible place. All I’m saying is the prices levels are shockingly pretentious with nothing behind it.
The food and wine were quite good, not exceptional. Unfortunately, the service was abysmal. After arriving it was a full 30 minutes until we had our order taken. The first course, a prosciutto-wrapped shrimp over a parmesan risotto was excellent. However, our bread came out after we received our appetizer nearly an hour after arriving. Strangely in-between our appetizer and entree our amuse bouche arrived which I assumed they had forgotten. The entrees were quite tasty, I had lobster and tenderloin over a creamed mash potato and caramelized carrots. The lobster was perfect, but the tenderloin was extremely chewy, which was sad because it tasted quite good. For dessert, a selection of bite-size pastries was provided, which tasted like warmed up frozen 3 days old Albertson's pastries. Granted it wasn't, horrible, but not worth the price. All-in-all I cannot recommend The Winery to anyone, which is sad, because certain aspects were quite nice. Aslo caviar was a little old.
We went early on purpose to have a drink before dinner - but, The tables in the bar area were unavailable for seating while we were waiting for our reservations ... the remaining bar seating was too limited, which was a poor start to the evening.
Celebrate Valentine a day early so I don’t get the same meal as everyone. Great Steam clamps for appetizer. Venison is good (Medium is recommended since venison tends to be tougher meat than beef). Scallops is great. Pricey but you pay for ambience.
Waiter is not good. I feel like being rushed the whole time
We came on a scouting mission for a possible Rehearsal Dinner for our fall wedding and doubled it as a Valentine's Day date...it was excellent! The food was delicious, the service prompt, and the wine was fantastic--so many choices. It is a little more on the pricey side for a typical date night, but we would definitely go back for special occasions.
Seafood tower was wonderful. Great service. Yummy!
really great wine list, solid menu and service. You better go or someone else will be eating your lobster.
We had a table by the window which was fantastic. The waiter was great. That was where the great experience stopped.
The steaks came out dry and very sad looking! No sauce offered. The vegetarian cauliflower steak was only Luke warm when it arrived at the table and the sides were not that appealing.
We were rushed out of the restaurant at the end of the night.
Wait staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful! The food was excellent and wait time was minimal. We loved it!
Service was not as stellar as it should have been for this level of restaurant. The food was well prepared but the salad order was incorrect but after waiting so long for it - we did not let the server know. I do appreciate the fact they were not rushing us out! I requested a window table and they honored my request. The decor is very lovely inside.
First experience at this restaurant. Enjoyed exceptional service and a delicious meal! A new go to special occasion venue for my wife and I!
Great food, environment, and excellent service
Wedding Anniversary! From the valet, to hostess, to bartender, to general Manager to our server 5 stars all the way! Everyone was fabulous. We felt like family!! Highly recommend The Winery to all!!!
Our experience was Fantastic! Our server was wonderful the food was Fantastic plus we had a table with a view. Can’t wait to return
Great time with great friends and food.
Birthday dinner, great food, great service, great time!
We enjoy the restaurant except this visit the noise level from the adjacent bar was overwhelming. We were not sure if it was because it was a Friday night. Nonetheless, for the cost of our dinner, we would have enjoyed our dining experience much more with a reasonable noise level.
Food was delicious, table service superb. The table was outside..unfortunately the private party are on the way to the table, people were smoking right outside a side door, that only had 5 feet to move away from the door, so when the door opened a closed the smoke came inside..the smoke smell was so intens it seemed they were smoking inside of the restaurant. If I would have been told that to get to our table and to visit the restroom we would have to go through the smoke area, I would have gone to a different restaurant. I never experienced this issue here..next time I will request to only be seated on the 1sr floor. The Winery should let people heads up about the upstairs sitting.
Beautiful atmosphere with lovely ocean view. The food was acceptable but not great...too expensive for the taste.
Food and ambiance were terrific. Our waiter was so nice and attentive. Sorry I can’t remember his name to give him kudos.
Kevin was an excellent waiter and surprised us with champagne for our anniversary
The flavors were delicious but the food was served cold. Our “medium” steaks were fully cooked, no pink. But we chose not to send them back because the staff was clearly overwhelmed with the number of tables that night. Service was friendly but very slow.
Service was very good. Food tasted great. Music was a little louder than I liked.
Amazing place with great food and environment !
Very nice decor with a nice view of Newport bay. Food is excellent as well, especially the octopus and cioppino. Best of all is the staff. The most friendly and attentive waitress I've ever come across, sorry I forgot your name. But everyone from the manager to the busboys was friendly and acknowledged you. Made for a wonderful and memorable anniversary.
JT was amazing the 2011 Jarvis was amazing also!! Don’t book the window ( near ocean early) late comers beat you! Food excellent!
Went for restaurant week and it was fabulous. Madison was our server and she was very friendly and helpful with questions and recommendations.
We have visited the Winery Tustin and Newport numerous times since they have opened. Their service, food, and wine selection is always outstanding. This is a restaurant that you can trust with your special occasions and business dinners. We really appreciate our waiter James making us feel welcome and spoiled. He was very attentive to our needs without interrupting our conversation. We brought guests to the restaurant as our belated holiday gift to them. They were thoroughly impressed and genuinely enjoyed themselves. There are so many great fine dining locations in Orange County but few are as consistent with their food, wine and service as the Winery. We are so thankful for a fantastic evening.
This is an amazing restaurant with beautiful views, all personnel taking such great care of you, and the most delicious food. I would love to visit again soon. It truly is so special!!
Great food but even greater service. Romantic atmosphere.
Came here to celebrate my friend’s birthday. Food was good. Service was excellent. Valet parking was fine.
The lovely table on the patio, upstairs was perfect! The service was very professional . The food was very nice quality and nice portions.
Great date !
Everything was great including the service. This is the second time i have been here and it was a great experience. Our server was awesome. Would def recommend this place to other people.
It was New Years Eve and they definitely wanted to turn over patrons . Service was good but we felt pressured to order, eat and move on. Food was so so. Fish was soft and tasteless. No wine list offered or prices offered. By the glass was over priced at $25. A glass. No sure I’ll return.
New Years Eve
Food was good, not overly impressed with the lobster. Our service with Pat was phenomenal. Ambience was as expected for a roaring 20s party for New Year’s. Noise level, because we are upstairs I believe, was a little on the loud side. All in all though a five star rating!
Excellent service. Food is outstanding each time. Our waitress Efi was great. Looking forward to our next visit!!
