The Wine Cellar & Bistro
Co-owned by Executive Chef Craig Cyr and Sommelier Sarah Cyr, The Wine Cellar & Bistro has been a locavore haven since established in 2003. Focusing on local and organic products complimented by a Wine Spectator Award-winning wine list, this little bistro has lots to offer. They serve the same seasonally-inspired menu for lunch and dinner, featuring products from The Wine Cellar Garden Project at the Cyr's home and farm. The wine-on-tap Cruvinet allows customers to enjoy 12 seasonally selected wines by the glass to complement any dish.
I'd recommend this restaurant with a couple of notes. The place is noisy. It's not intimate at all. The entrance and exit ramp that patrons and workers go up and down is hollow so you constantly hear the boom, boom of footsteps while in the dining room. When the weather is nice, which it was, they have outdoor seating and this increases the foot traffic up and down the ramp.
Food: the food was very well prepared. My two notes, however, are that 1) both entree's we ordered needed salt and seasoning. I think this is a big problem when the menu prices are as high as they are. 2nd) We were in early at 6 pm on a Friday night. The kitchen was already out of an appetizer (oysters) and a side dish on a main entree. Kind of a bummer.
On a good note: great service and they had a great piano player on site.
The service is always top-notch here. They have the best wine selection in Columbia and at good price points. The menu is varied and delicious, especially enjoy the presentation.
Good food and great atmosphere. Service was great too.
Love the vibe. Our wait staff is very knowledgeable about wines. Her recommendations did not disappoint. The food was beautifully presented, we thought our food was under seasoned., we needed to add some salt to bring out the flavors of our meals. We will return.
The food was interesting and quite good. They had a nice selection of small starters (3 of which would make a nice dinner) or nicely portioned entrees. My wife and I had the scallop salad and a mushroom/chestnut soup to start and a pork chop and a rainbow trout. Everything was excellent except the pork chop which was a bit weird (billed as sage/walnut crusted but it was more of a paste and overpoweringly thick) still it was good.
The wine list was not huge but nicely chosen and approchably priced. Until 6 they have a nice happy hour which discounts wines by the glass and many starters.
We'd go back
This is a smaller/quaint venue but transforms you into a wine cellar. Would love to eat here everytime in Columbia. It has amazing /unique food, great wine list and great ambiance. Great bar scene too. A nicer dining experience. Get your reservation early before coming into town. We will be back!
Excellent food. Excellent service. Excellent drinks. Excellent everything! Had a wonderful dinner here. We shared the goat cheese appetizer, then I had spaghetti squash alfredo with cauliflower, son had a steak, husband had trout. Everything was delicious, unique and special. (The "white martini" was also outstanding.) Thank you!
Another great meal. The Wine Cellar is one of our favorite restaurants in town. We often go there to celebrate special occasions -- this time it was my birthday. My wife and I went with my brother-in-law. We started sharing the cheese board. My wife and I each had the coconut curry scallops, which is reliably excellent. My brother-in-law had the sweet potato and pecan ravioli. We enjoyed them all a lot. They have a rotating list of wine specials and we always get tastes and usually find things we like by the glass. We have found that some restaurants that we have liked stop being as satisfying as they used to be. I'm glad to say that we have found the Wine Cellar to be consistently very nice. So I feel comfortable recommending it.
Very nice, creative menu, nicely executed, good service, overall, an excellent experience!
Always great food with emphasis on fresh and local.
Great food, great service, reasonably priced. Wonderful.
We were super disappointed to see the small selection of wine by the glass as well as the fact that their current menu didn't match what was online and they didn't have any of the items we were there to enjoy. Such a great opportunity that fell short.
This was a great meal to celebrate a birthday. We were in the Columbia for a couple of nights and made reservations here since there was availability during the busy homecoming weekend.
The food was really tasty and the variety was great. We had the trout and the ravioli, both were great in their own ways. The appetizers (cheese board and scallops) were very good and the dessert was excellent.
I would certainly recommend eating here.
Loved the live piano music they have on the weekends.
Delicious food! It has been years since I have been and the food was just as delicious as I remembered. My huaband and I celebrated five years and enjoyed every minute of our meal.
Our server was very good. He accidentally gave us a goat cheese dish we did not order. I am not a fan of goat cheese. I ate it a little...surprise. He took it off of our bill. Awesome.
The food was good. Enjoyed the atmosphere and conversation was easy. Not loud at all.
Cool place if you are not a picky eater. I am not. If you love trying new things this is the place for you. Loved the menu.
My go-to place for special occasions, or fine dining in general. I am very disappointed that it is now necessary to order the pre-meal bread and olive oil. The gazpacho was outstanding! Both entrees were excellent. Service, as always, was excellent. While portions never seem large, I am always just a bit too full (which is obviously not the fault of the restraint). Despite this I once again finished with the gooey bread pudding which, sadly, was not up to the usual standard. If I was slightly disappointed this visit, it is only because the bar has been set very high in the past.
We picked this spot out of the 'blue' and were very glad we did. Great food and service that was so personal and pleasant. Helped us get through the perfect menu. WILL GO BACK!
Nothing special and not worth the money.
As always, delicious fresh local seasonal food.
Outstanding meal. The Wine Cellar is one of our favorite restaurants in Columbia and we had a fabulous experience this time. The chef really pays a lot of attention to making the dishes as good as possible, using local ingredients when possible. They add new dishes every season and this time we had their seasonal dishes of baked wild salmon and creamy sweet corn risotto. Both were incredibly tasty. They have quite a selection of wines and beer and are happy to provide tastes. Our server, Emilio (I hope I spelled this correctly), was so friendly and helpful. I couldn't imagine a better time.
Enjoyed a great Sunday evening at the Wine Cellar. We arrived in time for special pricing on drinks and select wines - all of which were excellent. The meal's ingredients were locally sourced, fresh, and flavorful.
It seemed like the server was relatively new, and was awkward/didn’t know the menu. I ordered the crab cake crepes as an appetizer, and for $16 they were not worth it. There was very little crab meat in them, and they were served with guacamole (weird). For the entree I had the tenderloin and it was cooked to perfection. The potatoes were a little over cooked. And for dessert I had the creme brûlée, which again was made to perfection. My wife did the tasting menu which was probably the better option. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this place just due to the price and quality of service. The interior is dark, and wasn’t very busy while we were there. I thought the interior was kind of cheesy, and they took the “wine cellar” theme too far. I think there is potential with the food/atmosphere, but its not there yet.
Even though not full, the noise level made dinner conversation among four people challenging. The food was quite good. Service was good but a bit slow.
Wonderful restaurant. Food and wine are incredible. Only complaint is that the service was slow. It took 2.5 hours without dessert.
The food was really good, but portions are small. The service, however, was horrible! Our server would disappear for long period of times. After waiting for over 20 minutes with empty glasses, I finally went to the bar to order drink refills.
It seemed like you didn't have your A game on for the graduation weekend my daughter graduated from Mizzou we flew in from Gainesville and were very disappointed in the surface and not getting the food that we ordered.
We always have a good time at the Wine Cellar and Bistro! We like to go for Happy Hour at 5 when they have half price specials and then morph into dinner. Very sweet service. Interesting menu and well executed. Probably best wine list in Columbia.
The perfect spot for our son's college graduation. Service was terrific and the food is always outstanding!
We love this restaurant. The service is fantastic and the food is delicious. We always look forward to their seasonal menu, but they do everything well.
The food is always great and very creative. The waiter was very polite and knowledgeable. Small dining room adds to A warm private feeling
The Wine Cellar continues to be at the top of my list for happy hour and meeting friends for great wine and small plates.
Food & Wine exceeded my expectations. Service was excellent. Server was very knowledgeable and assisted us in choosing a worderful selection of items to share. The next time I am in Columbia, MO. I will make sure to dine again at The Wine Cellar & Bistro
Great place. Very quiet and comfortable.
The food at the wine cellar was very good. It seemed a little pricey for what you got, but it was very good.
Great food and wine. The service was excellent!
Excellent! Full selection of wines for every pallette and wallet. The Chestnut soup was outstanding. The brisket stroganoff was tender and flavorful. Amelio, our server was a delight.
Our dinner was great, just the right sized portions so that we could still have dessert. The server was wonderful with a great personality!
Excellent service and a lovely wine selection. Chose this restaurant for a date night with my partner and she LOVED it. Very happy with the experience and will definitely return soon!
We go to the Wine Cellar for special occasions and this was my birthday. We had the filet and coconut curry scallops, which we always love. We also had the risotto, which wasn't as good as it has been in the past. They have lots of good wines and they rotate the wines by the glass. We always try several and found some we liked. They have very good bread with oil and balsamic vinegar, which is the best in town. Unfortunately, they charge $3 for the bread. Our servers are always attentive, including the one who served us that night, who was in training. It's generally pretty quiet, though there always can be some loud groups. There were only two other groups in the main dining room, so it was generally pretty quiet, though one group erupted at times. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would recommend it.
