I ordered the pork tenderloin which was excellent and our server was very friendly and personable.
The Whitney lives up to its reputations as one of Detroit's premier dining experiences. Highlights include the incredibly intimate ambiance and flavorful food. I recommend taking the guided tour and visiting the bar after dinner to extend the experience as you may wish to take your time at this restaurant.
Not only is the food and atmosphere great but when you are done they do free tours of the mansion every 15 minutes.
Everything was excellent.
The ambience is incredible! The history and stories behind The Whitney is super cool. I highly recommend taking a tour before/after dinner to truly take in what the mansion has to offer.
Anywho, the food was fantastic. Everything was cooked to perfection and to how we requested it. It was a great start to our date night with us going to the theatre afterwards. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Steak came over cooked, otherwise everything else was great!
Went to The Whitney for Restaurant Week. Calamari was great. The rest of the food was okay. The entire three course meal looked better than it tasted, from the soup appetizer to the Whitefish entree. I would only hope that the regular dinner entrees taste better than what was offered for Restaurant Week.
The atmosphere, however, was where the restaurant really shined. Dining inside an exquisite historic mansion, the ambiance was spectacular, and I could not help but continuously gaze at my surroundings in awe as I dined. Definitely an A+ on for the atmosphere.
Great food and ambiance, and a little bit of history, too! Beautiful example of old Detroit! Great dining experience! Really nice menu for Detroit Restaurant week!
First time dining at The Whitney during Detroit Restaurant Week. Our server, Iris, made sure we fully enjoyed our evening. A wonderful, relaxing meal followed by a tour of the mansion made this a memorable experience! Outstanding food, service, and ambience. Will definitely be back to enjoy other selections on the regular menu!
What great service we had. The Host Nathan....Really Good. Our waitress Debbie. I felt like a queen. Although I had reserved reservations for five our ending numbers were three. They did not make us move from the large table we were sitting at. I have not been to The Whitney since 1998. What a great improvement. I did nor realize 2018, and 1998 could be so different. I will be back..
Thank you Nat and Debbie for your service.
Fantastic food, great waiter (Daniel).. slow service up in the bar area.. had to wait for service.
however once we got service the waiter was super friendly.
We brought our family from Boston to see the Whitney because we always rave about how great it is... they were not disappointed..
Went for Restaurant week. I have never been there and will definitely be back. We started with a quick bite appetizer sent by the chef of apple, blue cheese and cilantro. So fresh tasting. Loved the flavors. Next 3 of us decided on the Beef Wellington, one decided on the pork loin and one had the brick chicken. The Wellington had a wonderful cream on top and was cooked to perfection along with turnips that were surprisingly sweet. The Pork Loin had a wonderful sweet and savory sauce and was moist and flavorful. The chicken was crisp and so full of yumminess and the savory bread pudding was such a surprise to our taste buds. For dessert we all spilt the strawberry torte and it was light, fluffy and so decadent. The staff was attentive and provided great service . The Whitney is a throw back to old wealth and is stunning inside and out.
Simply amazing! From the service to the perfectly prepared entrees, as well as the live piano music adding to the romantic ambiance, everything was top notch! I highly recommend taking the tour of the mansion as well, if you're as into Detroit history as much as I am!
Fantastic ambiance, beautiful decor, and just an overall gem! The food was delicious and the waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful!
WOW! I went for my birthday dinner..and it was nothing short of amazing. From the door, the customer service was outstanding. All the diners were enjoying themselves , laughing, and dancing in the hallways. We were offered a tour and /or to sit at the bar until our table was ready. We had the private dining room. It was beautiful! Shawn was our waitress and she was phenomenal! I would request her personally next time. The food was exceptional! All of our guests loved the food. I only wish I'd went sooner!
The food was not adequately described. My girl ordered the chicken from the Restaurant Week Menu. It did not say mushrooms and she is allergic to mushrooms. So we switched plates. I had the pork tenderloin and that was over cooked.
The wine recommendation was amazing. My girl really liked the sweet red the server recommended.
The atmosphere was amazing. We walked around and saw the various rooms and stained glass. It was a great date. We explored a mansion and got to see how the other half lived. It was amazing. But the food - not the best.
Our first time there. The Whitney did not disappoint! We traveled from Jackson and it was worth the trip. (75 miles one way)
Absolutely wonderful! Could not have been more elegant!
I made the reservation based on the early evening menu shown at the time that I knew had options for all, including two with dietary/food allergy restrictions. We previously had items off the menu that I really enjoyed including the person with food allergies. When we arrived, we learned that menu was not available because it was replaced with Detroit Restaurant Week. We were open minded ordered from the new menu & full dinner menu. My Beef Wellington was a bit chewy and not worth the cost. There were very limited options for the food allergies and the tofu/mushroom meal was ordered. The main large mushroom was overcooked & tasted burnt. The tofu was not tasty. She does enjoy tofu & this one was not good. On the early evening menu, she really enjoys the filet. If I knew, I would have postponed our visit or had burgers & appetizers upstairs at the Ghost Bar. It was just unlucky timing of a menu change. The tomato/crap bisque & wedge salad were awesome!!! And, the bread, of course, is delicious. Most important, service was top notch, the atmosphere great and we always say being together to celebrate is more important than the food.
We went to see this magnificent mansion and we had a wonderful meal, superb service and thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the home after the meal. We were also welcomed up to the ghostbar for a ghost story. Will definitely be back for the Monday night Absinthe 101.
