Food and service were both outstanding. Beautiful building. Little expensive.
The only problem I had is that our waiter was taking too much time between main course and the dessert and forgot to give us the requested coffee refill. Our brunch took 2.5. hours. Too long. Food was great though.
Great time at a true gem of Detroit! Had a wonderful brunch with excellent service.
Love the Whitney! The food, the service, and the atmosphere and history!
Unbelievable food, wonderful ambiance, great service. Overall experience couldn’t have been better. This is my new favorite place downtown Detroit.
My eleven year old daughter and I had a lovely brunch and look forward to returning.
Great service. The server made us feel special. The food was sublime.
Our Server Daniel was on point! The mansion has lots of History! Food was good but over priced.Steak had burnt pieces on it.But the evening was nice.
The building is magnificent. The service was as outstanding as would be expected for this price point. The food portions were hefty! Prepare to go in hungry. The food was amazing too.
What a beautiful and historic gem in Detroit! Our waiter Stephen was amazing, gave us pieces of the history throughout our meal and we loved it! Took the champagne tour after brunch and Jim (the mansion historian) gave an excellent tour! Highly recommend as the house is exquisite- original Tiffany glass and fixtures and many other beautiful features.
This was the worst dining experience ever! The service was lousy, the food was unbelievably bad. How can you mess up a chopped salad? Leave out the bacon and cheese, that’s how the Whitney did it! Oh, and cut that beef Wellington in half before serving! The management tried to compensate by taking money off the bill. No thank you, we can afford fine dining, we just didn’t get at the Whitney. Never again. Such a shame.
I loved the property, the staff and building were great, however the food was certainly not worth the bill. All of our dishes came ot cold and did not taste good. For the price tag, I wouldn't eat here again. However, for the ambiance and historic charm, I'll go back for cocktails for sure.
Went there for a romantic anniversary dinner and was not disappointed. The ambiance was wonderful and the food tasted great. Our waitress was very accommodating and helpful throughout the night.
Good was a little bland. To much dressing in poached pear salad. Bread was delicious.
Elegant atmosphere and excellent food.
Waiter gave excellent service.
Ugly chocolate cake was great and gluten free. What a surprise for such a tasty dessert.
My husband had loved this restaurant years ago and was so disappointed in the food this time.
I was surprised at the limited nature of the menu. There were no chicken dishes, no pasta option, and only one vegetarian option that was really very marginal and overpriced. Three of us ordered it-the cauliflower steak- and it wasn’t good. There was no marinade, no flavor, it was too huge, the vegetable side was bad. They really need to bring their menu up to the times by adding real well prepared vegan and vegetarian dishes. My husband was very happy with the salmon. The ambience was lovely and the server was very good, if verbose.
Wonderful relaxibg, delicious meal in an incredible setting.
We had talked about going to the Whitney for a while, so about a month ago, I booked a table for 5:00 Saturday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We didn’t mind paying a little extra for the meal because it’s definitely worth the experience to support this beautiful, historic place (plus, the food and the service was amazing!). Loved it! We will definitely be returning!
The food, the staff, the ambiance, the beautiful architecture...I cannot say anything except excellent.
What a fantastic evening we had at The Whitney. My wife and I were celebrating my PhD graduation and the staff made our dinner over the top special. Our server Anne was outstanding. She was genuinely excited and happy for me and my accomplishment and made our dinner so memorable. She gave us a private tour while our food was cooking, and even had Pastry Chef Eric write congratulations on my dessert. We had the key lime cheesecake, and Anne was right; its the best cheesecake around! Chef Eric is incredible, and you should go to The Whitney if only for the desserts. The entrees held their own though and were exceptionally prepared. Steaks were cooked to temp, sides were hot and flavorful; it was a true culinary experience. The prices were very reasonable for the level of service and food. You cannot go wrong with selecting The Whitney for dinner, and bonus, ask for Anne... we know we will!
Ahmed was great waiter. Ambiance w/live piano was great. Food terrific. Would have been 5 stars across if there hadn’t been a bug in my wine. 25th wedding anniversary made special
Such a beautiful place! The setting overcomes all the other shortfalls (Cold side dishes, lukewarm coffee and limited menu for any plant-based eaters out there...). To their credit we were there on a Sunday evening, but there were only three or four other tables there. While the menu is limited if you are vegan, the pesto sauce served with the Cauliflower steak is really good. And again, the ambiance is awesome.
I was impressed with the service we (my husband and I) received. The food was super delicious and I can’t wait to go back. It was my husband’s birthday and the staff exceeded our expectations. He loved the atmosphere as well.
I had a wonderful brunch with my friend, a “bride-to-be”. Our server Keith was super friendly and knowledgeable. Food and drinks were amazing.
I had an unpleasant experience here for my sons birthday. Upon contacting The Whitney, the general manager immediately phoned me to address my concerns. He was understanding and apologetic. He invited us back and promised a more enjoyable experience. Looking forward to returning to the Detroit staple.
The beef Wellington was just terrific!
We were going to a concert and the valet had our car moved to the lot across the street so that we didn't have to worry about when we would arrive back! That was impressive!
Everything was excellent as usual. The only complaint is the restrooms. We went here 3 years ago for dinner and the toilets were overflowing. This time the toilets didn’t flush. The men’s or the women’s. Fix the plumbing issues.
What a Detroit Treasure, it was our first time at The Whitney and it was an amazing experience. Looking forward to Afternoon Tea with my friends in the near future.
I understand you want to keep the royal vintage look but updates are necessary.
The service by "Keith" was outstanding. The food was VERY good. In addition, the ambience, although a bit "dark" (building was constructed in the 1890's) was warm and supportive. My only complaint is that the elevator to the second and third floors was inoperative. Thus, a less abled person would not have been able to visit the very cool third floor bar. The neighborhood is a bit "dicey" but the valet parking gives one a sense of comfort. We are from Chicago but we plan to return to this venue when next in metro Detroit.
The venue was lovely and the server was delightful. That said, there are many tired aspects to the dining room where we ate. The padding in the chairs is degraded and we were basically sitting on the frames. The ceiling needs repairs. While dessert was very good, the potatoes which came with our mains were tasteless, cold and under cooked. Yet, the crab cakes were good, not laced with fillers. Perhaps because this was an Easter Brunch, the restaurant’s usual standards were lacking and quality was uneven.
We enjoyed the Easter Brunch prior to attending a play at the Fisher Theater. The food was excellent, our server was only fair. He was somewhat unresponsive to our requests-although he eventually responded.
The manager made sure we got our vehicle pulled up when it became clear we we’re running late due to our server’s lack of attention.
Wonderful dining experience!
We went for Easter Brunch. The food was very good and the service was exceptional. The setting is very special. it was well worth driving into the city on a dreary saturday morning. We will definitely return to The Whitney.
You should know. $5 Valet parking. Portions are very large.
We were having brunch before seeing “Hamilton”.
Paul was absolutely outstanding on the service side. Food was perfection and the ambiance could not be better. Thank you for making my birthday outstanding!
They were so good to my parents and I, thank you for the special treatment for our birthaversary dinner! Service was excellent as was the food! We were not disappointed. The piano was a bit loud at our table, but playing Happy Birthday for three of us made up for it.
