The food was delicious, especially the road in the hole, best I ever had in fact. The ambience was good, however there was no music, but the noise from the bar downstairs was completely inaudible which was nice. The room is has a nice oldy look. The waitresses were nice, but a little oblivious. They took a while to come over and we had to bend over and look at them when we wanted to order food etc, especially when there was only one other table in the room. Overall though the food was so good I'd recommend it to anyone, the waitresses may have been a little oblivious because it was so quiet so weren't kept on their feet.
Excellent main courses, both meat and fish, slightly let down by very dense chocolate "mousse" after. Wait for food only just the right side of long and service inattentive at first, but overall a pretty good experience. Good coffee. Tiny water glasses. Have been before and will enjoy returning from time to time.
What has happened to this place? I always used to come here for quite a special meal for business contacts and the food was very very good - verging on fine dining. I went this week and the menu has completely changed and it is now nothing more than decent pub food. I was quite shocked. The food was decent but really not special at all.
I was disappointed with the White Swan compared to a previous visit I made. The food was lacking in flavour and was not sophiscated as I had previously. The food lacked flavour ie the fish stew I had and the brisket was extremely tough.
Very good value when using 50%.. service was fantastic. I was suprised the room was quite enpty
Five of us went on a Friday evening to try out their new menu. Very busy in the pub downstairs but the restaurant was an oasis of quiet. All starters and mains were delicious with the dirty salt beef sandwich notable. 50% off of the food bill promotion was a steal. Would highly recommend.
An excellent place for a business lunch. Authentic food and non pretentious service.
Fantastic night out, the staff were very helpful and friendly all evening. Food was very good with an interesting menu of British seasonal food.
Fantastic experience. The service and the food were absolutely to die for.
We will be back.
Visited for the soft opening relaunch of dining facelities. Varied menu with some nice individual twists. With 50% off excellent value. Attentive, personable and professional staff.
Lovely- very atmospheric and cozy for autumn/ winter meals! Menu is good hearty food- loved the black pudding croquettes! will be back
The newly refurbished White Swan, with its revamped menu, featuring really good-quality ingredients, cooked superbly, is a treasure in the Chancery Lane/Fetter Lane legal area. It is a great place to eat and talk business, with a very good wine list. Service is exceptional, with special mention to Matteo, who catered for our every need.
Lunch meeting with a client. The food was good, red mullet followed by steak. Slightly more expensive than expected, but much enjoyed.
Food good, service slow, little atmosphere. There were few people in the restaurant yet the service was so slow that we nearly left.
Decent food. Nice atmosphere. Not wildly exciting
Restaurant upstairs is a nice space away from the bar. Food quality was good with reasonable choice. Servers were very attentive and happy to help.
The restaurant was not busy and the noise levels were good to hold a business meeting.
The food is good on a classic menu. Given the position, it's useful for business meals in the Holborn / Fleet Street area. Although the dining room is a bit noisy when it gets crowded.
I've been to the White Swan before and really enjoyed it because of the quality of the food and the 50% discount. While that discount is going on I'll return over and over again, I'm sure!
The food was flavourful and cooking time was as we requested (the steaks were Perfect) . The white wine was crispy and refreshing and it spoused perfectly with the lobster we had as a starter. It was a pleasant surprise. We will come back
Inventive menu, good food and wine, friendly and very helpful staff. Overall excellent ambience
Great service, steak was pretty poor quality (65% fat).
The place was empty, dry and without a soul, like the service. The food was good but it was still really uncomfortable to eat in there. Eat at another place if you have to choose.
This pub is a nice find for a business meal, the menu is great, the wine list better and the staff lovely. Shame about the big gang of awful middle-aged men in shirtsleeves getting increasingly sh*tfaced and embarrassing in the corner.
We took some clients who were from Dubai and who wanted "traditional British pub food".... so the White Swan really hit the spot. Elegant dining with a great atmosphere. Will return...
Great to be able to eat here again after having been bounced a few times by the app. Super kind and attentive staff, great food. Pity about the loud, drunken folk at another table.
The goat was a little tough. When I asked for some in the water. Maple beer bottle. That was nearly 4 pound. I choose the special offers for a bargain - £4 for water it's not what I call a bargain!!!!!!!
Very impressed with the food overall; a good, varied menu. They were offering black gull's eggs (which are only available for 6 weeks) as a starter, which were delicious and a first for me. My friend had the kid goat and said it was truly delicious, which it certainly looked. With the current 50% off food, it was extremely reasonable for the quality. The upstairs dining room is cosy and welcoming, and allows conversation without any need to shout over music, as so many places do not! My only gripe was that the service was very slow - we were there nearly 3 hours - but this was because they had an unexpected number of walk-ins, and the waiters were extremely charming about it and put our desserts on the house. Said desserts were gorgeous and absolutely huge! We would definitely return there; it is ideal for food lovers wanting a catch up.
Met with a friend at The White Swan for dinner using their 50% off the food offer. At this price, the dining was good value, but I would struggle to enjoy at full price. Service was excellent, flavours and portion-size were good, wine list not over-priced. Best of all is that it is significantly quieter than the bar downstairs.
What a pity, we like this place very much but it's just that the White Swan don't seem to be playing the game according to Open Table's rules and have now disappointed us on three separate occasions.
We Had booked at the White Swan for what was to have been a romantic supper on the evening of Good Friday 2017. Our booking was accepted and acknowledged by email. However, when we got there, the lights were all off and there was no one there. This was at 20H30 so hmmmm...
On two previous occasions our booking had been accepted but the restaurant called before hand to cancel 'due to their having accepted a booking for a private party'.
Will we bother to try to go there a fourth time?
This was one of the best meals I have had out in London. The was very well prepared without being fussy and the se bing staff understood about the food. He even gave me some tips from the chef!
Fabulous - as always. The quality of the food is fantastic.
Once again the dining experience here was just outstanding. Always challenging to find restaurants that my friend can be pleased with, this spot has never disappointed. I highly recommend The White Swan.
Good simple menu, well cooked and nicely presented. Lovely room.
The service from Thomaz (from Hungary) was terrific. As was the wine. The devilled kidney were truly awful.
We always go when the 50% off deal is in, it never disappoints. Always excellent .
Dissappointing, no smoked salmon and only 1 steak left when we were given menus, at 7pm. Wine was expensive but the 50% off food helped keep the bill manageable. The overal experience was OK, try for yourself and review.
Totally let down by the food!
The menu for this place looked amazing and I was really looking forward to going. The restaurant itself, above a busy pub, was actually beautifully laid out and very quiet so a lovely space. The service was top notch and the waiter great!
Unfortunately the food let all of this down! Starters were disappointing and not what we expected to receive from the menu write up. A confit duck leg that arrives as a cold starter with just a few pieces of cold duck on a plate, accompanied by random bits, was a real let down. The steak main course was fine, except it was such a thin cut of rump steak, came with literally 5 chunky chips and a tiny bit of salad. Apparently the restaurant thought it was worth £30 though! Dessert again had sounded lovely, until they served cold treacle pudding and we had to ask for it to be heated. Who does a cold treacle pudding?
Basically, a prepared menu of cold stuff with the off hot dish if you're lucky. And to top it off, they tried to charge us £2.50pp for the bread that they served us up front - not only has they not told us that it wasn't complimentary upon serving it to us but it also literally consisted of a tiny slice of bread each ... for £2.50. I could buy a fancy loaf for that! Disappointing and I won't be eating there again.
As ever, the dining experience was most enjoyable. The service was excellent and the menu was interesting.
We had been here once before though not for a couple of years. On the top floor above a rather - to me - nondescript pub. But for a small room, the restaurant was surprisingly good. Cooking and presentation way above what I would expect to get above a pub. Certainly worth a third visit
Great food and service will definitely return
