Overall the experience was good. Nice historical ambiance. I didn't give 5 stars as the waitstaff would get into discussions about personal items and that was loud enough to be annoying. It must be noted that it was not my waitress.
The Wharf was a great place to enjoy the multiple seafood choices of the DC, VA & MD area. Nice cozy ambiance, our waiter Tim was helpful, efficient,& professional. Parking is available right behind the Wharf. Enjoyed the Norfolk Trio and Bronzini.
Service was horrible. Our waiter kept forgetting everything and was challenging my boyfriend on the food he ordered, and she made us feel uncomfortable for the food we ordered.
From the moment we walked in, host staff was very unprofessional. Our table reservation was at 7:30, we got their right on time, and they still made us wait at the bar for 15 min until they got our table. Looks like they don’t care about the quality of service or acting professional even though they call themselves ‘fine seafood.’ Would never take out of towners here again. Food was actually very good though, but service was disgustingly rude.
Nice meal while visiting a beautiful city
Wonderful. Great Crab Cakes, service and overall experience. The rest of the menu has lots to like as well. Building dates from 1790, one of the few places where George Washington did not eat in Alexandria although he would have enjoyed the meal. Recommended!
I had the best crab cakes of my life here and the service was outstanding. Worth every penny : )
The Wharf in Alexandria, because of their truly exceptional food, has been our favorite Lunch spot every year after the Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Race in Washington DC, for more than 10years in a row. THIS TIME, it turned out to be a very disappointing (most likely last) visit. The atmosphere still pleasant and the service still friendly, they apparently were sold, lost their Head Chef or forgot how to cook, whatever. The food, except for a cup of She Crab soup, was so much under average as it used to be above. For us, a regrettable end to very enjoyable memories, and on top somewhat embarrassing, since we brought friends along with great expectations after our raving --- so our reputation as gourmet-judges took quite a hit.
Love the resturant. Always have. However, since the new chef came onboard meals have left much to be desired. Crabcakes benedict (poach eggs weren’t very poached and difficult to eat). Lobster may not be fresh anymore and i pray not from a can. This will not stop me from going as again, i’ve been dining here with my family for about
20yrs +.
However one of the specials last sunday was Flounder and it was cooked perfectly & delicious.
Great service and food. Prices typical for Alexandria seafood restaurants. Lump crab cake appetizer was delicious. For entrees we had several of the seafood pasta dishes, which were quite tasty and generous portions. Would recommend for date night.
My husband and I were looking for a restaurant with great seafood. Being in the DMV there are many restaurants that claim they have the best crab cakes or pride themselves on fresh seafood. Well The Wharf definitely delivers! This is a historical restaurant with a very cozy feeling. The food was ABSOLUTLEY DELICIOUS. We both ordered appetizers (bacon wrapped scallops and shrimp & crab fritters). The appetizers were so filling we could only eat half of our sandwiches (crab cake sandwich and scallop po-boy). Great seafood, Great location and Great price!
A very good restaurant focusing mainly on seafood.
We were on vacation in the area and selected The Wharf for dinner. We had a beautiful dinner and great service. Will definitely visit again.
Service was okay... one thing i observed was that when a Caucasian family sat down they were given bread drink options and menus but my family wasn’t. The waitress was really sweet though. Very small portion size for lunch ...
The waitress lacked patience and gave the wrong order to people. The wait staff reach over other dinner guest. I was told that dinner started after 2pm. When I asked for a dinner, was told that I had to order from the brunch menu. Food was okay, fries were cold. Would not recommend. Will go to the Fish Market next time.
Once again we enjoyed Easter dining at the Wharf, as did our guests who were new to the restaurant. The crab imperial was a hit, as was the she-crab soup. Thanks to the recommendation of our waitress, we also had a delicious sauvignon blanc, on sale, with it. Highly recommend this restaurant for its food, wine, service and atmosphere.
The Wharf restaurant can easily become an addiction, the food is that good.
The Wharf has been one of my favorites in Old Town for many years. The food is always very good. It is priced comparable to other Old Town seafood restaurants. The noise level was good so we could enjoy conversation across the table with friends. The servers were friendly and checked on us to make sure we and the food and drinks were ok. I would highly recommend this restaurant to locals and tourists alike.
We visited The Wharf on our first visit to Old Town Alexandria. Great restaurant with great food and friendly waitstaff. Lobster, crabs and lobster Mac and cheese enjoyed by all. We will recommend and hope to return someday soon!
food was good, especially the fish special. Nothing to rave about, but good. very vibrant bar scene which made the dining area very noisy. worst was the desert which seemed like it was bought at local grocery store and heated up. Service was very good.
Decided to stop after Mt Vernon.
We had great service from Tim. Our drinks were very good, the crab cake appetizer She crab soup were delicious & we could have stopped there if we ordered larger portions. The Virginia rockfish was cooked perfectly but a little under seasoned, the baked stuffed shrimp was a little over cooked and just “good”. Progress to desert, pecan pie & white chocolate raspberry bread pudding. I’ve experienced many pecan pies in my life and this rates pretty high with exception of the chocolate glaze on the plate, not a big fan of bread pudding unless in New Orleans, this one was ok but like most, it’s just bread no matter what you put on it. Thanks toTim for the great service.
There was an odd smell in the restaurant around where we were sitting - something akin to garbage. While the food was good, the service seemed a little more rushed that I would like. There didn't seem to be a lot of people waiting for a able, so I didn't understand that.
Loved the quiet setting, great ambience for sharing with friends. The food was amazing. Wasn't fond of the upsell attempts on wine selections but in all a very good experience.
I can't express how authentic this is. I had luncheon menu, shrimp and scallops augratan (lobster and scallops augratan on dinner menu). It is the best I have ever had, bar none. I will be back Everytime I am in the DC area.
Excellent food and service! I highly recommend the Wharf.
Was having a conversation with a friend and the waitress would interrupt every 3 minutes TK check in on us. While her drive to make our experience enjoyable was appreciated, we would have the interruptions more subtle.
Table was ready on arrival and food and service was excellent as always
The service was poor with a long wait for the server to come to our table to take our drinks order, errors on the food order, and accidentally spilling a drink. They did offer us desserts on the house (mine was excellent - peppermint crème Brule), but ultimately it was not enough to reverse my overall impression that the service was very poor. The meal itself was fine (dessert was the highlight for me) but I would not recommend the restaurant because of the poor service quality, especially considering that it is relatively expensive.
Filet wasnt as good. Made me question if it actually was a filet cut? Anyway, crab cakes, mussels, she-crab was all great as always. Service is always good!
Excellent customer service, our waiter was very attentive, the food was great me and my husband had the filet migon & lobster tail, asparagus, mash potatoes, and bacon mac & cheese. We were very satisfied and will be returning!
Unfortunately we were disappointed. The food quality was poor. The lobster was rubbery. The service was rushed and inattentive. I was overall not satisfied with the experience.
Went for lunch on National Crab Day and it was awesome. The crab cake lunch special was done just right as well as the scallops with crab socutash. Very tasty and Julie was great! Another great dining option in Old Town. We’ll be back for dinner!
Based on other reviews and the prices, I expected more. The crab cake was quite good, but the salad was overdressed with ranch dressing. Our server was friendly and attentive and we enjoyed a very nice wine which she recommended.
Excellent service with freshly prepared and tasty dishes.
The wharf is a great place for a romantic or date night
My husband and I loved the food. The service was great ...but the food was really wonderful. The portion sizes were good and we didn't leave stuffed. I would highly recommend.
Service and dinnerr was amazing! The food came out fast, fresh and hot! Stephanie was very sweet and attentive. It was our first time there, the manager came to the table to ask how everything was. We'll definitely be back.
Made reservations for early afternoon. It’s cozy and has an old fancier tavern feel. Wait staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Started either the PEI mussels with citrus cream. Amazing! The oysters were nice and plump. The sauce was creamy yet light - probably due to lemon peel. Also had the she-crab soup and the seafood chowder - which was in a tomato broth. I had the blackened scallops with crab succotash. It was a special. Superb. The 5 beautifully seared scallops were on top of the succotash that contained lump crab that was in a light cream sauce. Not heavy at all. Also had the shrimp in butter sauce over thin linguini. 5 huge shrimp. Perfectly cooked pasta. Oh - and the meals came with house salads. BTW - the blue cheese dressing is homemade and wonderful.
The she-crab soup was very good
We really appreciated the ability to have a conversation without shouting - my party of six was seated in the back in a quiet nook so we could share some special time with my 91 year old grandmother. The food was delicious and everyone enjoyed what they ordered.
