The Wharf Pub Ratings and Reviews
Nice meal and dinner - pub style which was what we expected. A bit spicy - everything was spicy including the Margerhita pizza which was totally unexpected.
The host on New Years was a bit rude. I made reservations about a month out. I did not request a booth but did when we arrived because 2 were open and another booth was fairly close to finishing. The table we were being seated at was at the end of a bar in the middle of the dining room - not ideal. The waiter said he had other reservations that Js requested booths - I asked if there were 3 that Had requested given the availability that I saw. He finally said "fine" go sit in a booth. Then 5-10 minutes later proceeded to walk by our table and throw a pile of menus at us and kept walking. There was only one other party that came in to sit in a booth from 7:30-9:15 when we left. The booth behind us - away from the door sat empty. I'm not quite sure why the attitude or rudeness - not necessary especially since I had a reservation and had made it a good 4 weeks prior!
Great hometown bar and restaurant great comfort food with a nice edge. Love the bourbon sampler! The chowder and oysters were aeesome. The added entertainment that came on at 8 PM was an added surprise. Singer with guitar and he was great. We will be back to the Wharf Pub on our next visit to Newport. Try the Pizza Tots what an awesome surprise.
My family and I recently had dinner at The Wharf Pub. This restaurant features a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, comfortable seating, great service, and nice live entertainment. Unfortunately, the food was a little disappointing. Overall, very bland, from the wings to the tater tots to the dipping sauces. Some more creative use of seasoning blends would make the food a winner.
We visited Newport during Restaurant Week and after much review of many of the local restaurants offerings we chose Wharf Pub; especially for the fact they were offering a beverage choice included in the overall experience.
We had Ryann as a server and she was everything you could ask for in a great server. She was friendly and welcoming, she was suggestive and educational on the menu items and drink choices, she was quick but not pushy and she paid clear attention to detail in everything she did (serving us a soup we decided to try with two spoons, without being asked...impressive). She did her best to up sell on a bottle of Sparkling Water; which we declined but it was nice to know the offer was there. We are both Restaurant managers in CT and would be more than lucky to employ anyone equal to her.
The food was presented nicely, portion sizes were far from skimpy and very flavorful. A little heavy on the salt for some choices but overall the food was worth while. We have eaten at Wharf Pub before but typically sit outside and have a cocktail and tots. (ALWAYS AN AMAZING CHOICE!!)
We will be back again to visit and would absolutely recommend for anyone visiting the area, to stop in!!
Interested pub in a great location. Some dishes were excellent, some average. We were able to get reservations on an extremely busy weekend but that wasn’t a negative reflection on the restaurant. It was packed. I’d rate it 3.5 stars overall. Not handicap accessible, stairs on both front and side entry.
On vacation, went for brunch. Hubby ordered Texas Toast spread with avocado and topped with smoked salmon, capers, and creme fraiche w dill. Tasty, but more like an appetizer portion. My eggs Benny were a disappointment, only a tiny drizzle of sauce, and a couple teaspoons of crabmeat. Not inclined to go back, or recommend, although the table next to ours ordered deep fried cod portions, which smelled wonderful and looked more like a lunch than a snack.
We have been to the Wharf Pub a number of times and have been happy with the food and service each time. The Black Sea tater tots are my favorite of the wide variety of tater tots that they have. Great shrimp Po' Boy sandwich as well. Good beer selection and the waiter provided helpful suggestions.
Food and drinks were excellent...gluten free options for me were perfect. Service was lovely and seating was comfortable. Only 1 tiny problem-condensation from an overhead pipe kept dripping on one of our party member's head throughout the meal. But the staff kept kindly stepping up to wipe the pipe for us. I'm sure this is only a problem on hot steamy summer days
The condensation from the pipes was dripping all over our table. It took several requests to get moved. And then a bachelorette party was seated next to us. It was non-stop loud screaming all night long. I was surprised that the management did not go to the table and remind the group that they were not in a private party room and some respect should be shown to the other patrons. Food was good, but I will not be back and unless you are celebrating a bachelorette party, I would not recommend it.
Inside is dark and gloomy, definitely a pup atmosphere. Luckily was able to snag a seat outside after a short wait. Impressive spirits collection (probably 30) bourbons with an equally long list of scotch, him, etc... Food was good, not fantastic but it was fine. About as expected. Service wasn't great, once we ordered apps and told the server we would order dinner after she didn't come back for quite some time. My order was wrong (with elements I asked to be left out and missing elements I asked to be included). Service was also very slow. I think that is par for the course in Newport during busy season.
We had reservations & were seated right away. Our server was great. We ordered the tater tots as an appetizer- meh nothing special. I had a salad w/ fried chicken - they so clearly over cooked the chicken I'm shocked they served it. They took the chicken off- the bill not the salad- though I only suggested that they take the chicken off. Another member had the Mac n cheese & Ive never seen him leave so much food uneaten on his plate. The other 2 dishes were fine but nothing memorable. Our server though was great! Absolutely would not recommend for food- drinks would be fine.
