The Wharf Pub
Service was slow, never asked if we wanted drink refills and never offered desert.
We picked up our two daughters from Saint George’s and two of their friends and headed into Newport for a fun dinner. It was the Newport boat show so there weren’t a lot of options are kids love the tater tot’s at the wharf pub so we had a wonderful dinner with them and cookies right next-door afterwards
Food was ok, service was nonexistent
Great day. Good food. Atmosphere fabulous. Server wonderful.
Nice selection of food. Cod fish sandwich was very good
I didn't see the previous menu until after going there, I think the menu was great. There were several items I wanted to try but the pimento cheese and crab dip was tops. It did not disappoint, coming from Maryland this was so much better than MD crab dip. We also had the BBQ pork Mac and cheese and the chicken and waffles both good. The drinks were also top notch! If I come back to Newport, I'd go there again.
We had the most amazing server.
We placed our order and told the waitress one person in our party had an allergy. We waited an hour for our food, and the waitress comes saying that dish was made with the allergy ingredient!! An hour later!! Manager was not made aware since she was bringing out the plate as the waitress was telling us we couldn't have it. We ended up ordering something else and the Manager took the plate of our bill. But this is serious, allergies need to be paid close attention to. Food was ok, drinks were pretty boozy, but that incident just made me give it 3 stars and never go back again.
Be aware that the name and menu have changed for this restaurant. The menu posted on here is much more extensive from what they currently offer. I was disappointed because I booked this place to try a specific chicken dish and they no longer had it.
Great food and atmosphere. Our waitress Laurie was awesome! My girls are still raving about those crawfish hush puppies... damn are they good!
This pub is very dark & dingy.- no ambience. The bartender was our waiter & so he wasn’t as responsive by any means. I ordered the fish & chips & there was more batter than fish. They didn’t have tartar sauce just this mustard sauce. Won’t return.
Excellent choice for diners that will enjoy a fusion of Southern comfort and New England ingredients, think lobster and clams mixed into a hush puppie...good atmosphere in the outside bar as well.
Food was subpar. Had the hush puppies to start. The best thing about those was the jelly. Then had the grilled wedge. Did not like it at all - it had a weird taste and the Tasso was pretty spicy. Husband had the brisket, which was pretty fatty. Banana pudding was the only highlight.
We have been coming here for the past few summers and this year we really didn’t like the menu changes. My three teenagers liked their meals but my husband and I did not. The brisket bbq platter was not good...the cornbread was so terrible and the meat was thick and dry. Our waitress was really nice but she was also tending bar and we didn’t see her very often.
Our server was very nice, but service was very slow. Food was just okay, nothing really special. Selection of beers was good if you like IPAs and citrus beers but otherwise not impressed.
Service was excellent. Food was very good. Lobster roll, seafood chowder, burgers. oyster po'boy all very good. The only bad thing was the air conditioner dripped on us the entire time!!! Please fix that.
Great service.. loved that they made all their own sauces. Fried pickles were amazing, we split the Chicken and Waffles they are good. We also tried the Pork Belly Tots they were good.
My husband and I met up with our friends from Sweden for dinner. The service was great, no long wait time for our food, all around a great experience. Highly recommend!
Our server never put our food order in and it took 1.5 hours for our appetizers to come out. There was an air conditioner dripping on my friends head. The waiter was very dismissive. Go to Diego’s instead. That place rocks.
Service was excellent, appetizers were very good..tater tots, fried pickles, ribs. Our meals were not very good. A few of us had the brisket sandwich special and it was dry and tough, fried oysters were chewy, fish and chips were okay. I would not go back.
We had brunch here on a Saturday morning. There is an outdoor space but we ate inside which was more of a dark pub vibe. I got the impression that they did not do much to change the decor since they became a southern restaurant.
We each got a drink and something from the brunch menu. The beer selection was good. The presentation of the food was bare bones simple but tasted pretty good. The portions were a little small. My husband ordered chicken and waffles (his go-to) and though he enjoyed the taste thought it was inappropriate to have wings instead of tenders with the dish.
This place seems like it’d be better suited for a beer and apps late night, but it did the job fine.
I am really shocked at the lack of service we received tonight. Some of the drinks we ordered were never delivered, the food took more than 45 min to arrive, and was way too salty. We were offered free ice cream to make up for the slow service, but not offered for them to put the appetizer on the house when we said we did not want ice cream. I am embarrassed for taking our out-of-town guest here.
Lost reservation stuck in a tiny table when there were open booths. We should have been given a booth. I was able to prove my reservation. Won't go back.
They changed the menu to southern food. Does not go with the newport vibe. Extremely disappointed. I hope they change it back. Was a fun place to eat and drink.
We have been to several on-the-waterfront restaurants in our visits to Newport over the years, and while this one was more dark and pub-like (the opposite, I would say, from light, airy, waterfront), the food was very good. We enjoyed this place as a change of pace, and thought the rustic somewhat sea-faring motif was cool. Loved the kale salad with lobster (even though the lobster salad description might give a sense of mayo; there was really no (very little?) mayo in it, which was great). There was a lively young-persons bar scene happening; and we noticed a lot of younger people dining there, too (maybe bc the prices weren't awful for proximity to the waterfront?). Our waiter was great; solicitous and professional for such a young woman.
Food was good and interesting selections. Inside seating very dark and dreary for the location. Really need to find a way to brighten. We ended up getting seat outside at bar which worked for us but very disappointed in interior. Hadn’t been here in years but would only eat outside.
Not our best visit to the Wharf Pub. The pickles in the fried pickles were not pickled enough and the southern slaw lacked enough dressing. On the plus side, the barbecue pork (gone hog in’) sandwich was delicious, the lobster roll was overstuffed, and the tater tots were a surprising throwback to my childhood.
We love the wharf pub. The only thing I would change was we sat at the table near the kitchen it was very dark could use a light there. Also we ordered the fried pickles and there is no description that lists them as sweet pickles, had we known we would have ordered them.
Loved the staff, atmosphere outside, drinks were amazing and the seafood jambalaya was outstanding
It was an early reservation (4:30) so the restaurant wasn’t quite ready for us. The waitress was the highlight of our time there. We both had the fish chowder and I loved it but my wife hated it - too Smokey. The wings were ok with the bourbon sauce - a bit heavy on the sauce and my wife liked her tots. Disappointed that the only dark beer was Guinness, and there were many selections. I would probably go back to order something else in the future.
The restaurant is cute and cozy and the menu looked promising. But all in all it was disappointing. Food was overcooked- both of our meals. Server was friendly but not attentive. We would have told him about the overdone food but he never came by. Good location and reasonably priced if the food had been good.
Mediocre food. Super noisy.
Great southern food, fun share plates. Great casual atmosphere.
Mediocre , not my style, but they accommodated me
Went for brunch and had the fried green tomato eggs benedict -- still thinking about it. I could eat it every day
I have been to the Wharf Pub many times over the years and I do like it overall. The food is great and the drinks are great. I love the sliders and tater tots. However, the service always seems to be lacking. It doesn't matter if I go for lunch on a weekday in the off season or for dinner in the middle of summer. For instance when I went in this week for dinner we arrived 15 minutes early for our reservation and they asked us to please wait at the bar until our table was ready in a few minutes which was no problem. However, twenty minutes later when they hadn't seated us, we inquired with the host and they said their computer said we were already seated. Our table had been ready but they had forgotten to seat us. I believe this was caused by them having multiple hostesses working at once that miscommunications happen. Over all I really like the Wharf Pub and will be back but the service is repeatedly lacking.
Slow service, dirty environment, grab a burger elsewhere
We went to the Wharf Pub for my birthday dinner this weekend. I chose the place because I wanted to dine outdoors. The food was delicious, but the service was horrible. It took 20 minutes to just get the drinks we ordered. Another 45 minutes to get our appetizer and an hour to get out meals. After someone who wasn’t our server packed up our leftovers, we waited another 20 minutes just to get our check. We had plans to go out for dessert after which we never did because we were at the restaurant so long. Definitely not the place to go for a special occasion. Also the manager avoided our table and did not step in to help his staff even though he could clearly see how long we had been waiting. Not a well managed restaurant. I feel bad for the cook because he can obviously do his job extremely well but the staff will prevent people from coming back.
Great food, great drinks and amazing service. Wouldn't got to Newport without stopping in this place!
Post graduation late dinner
