The Wharf-Madison Beach Hotel Ratings and Reviews
What an excellent meal, and the service was phenomenal. The short ribs and duck dishes were simply excellent.
Brian our waiter had great recommendations and we we’re encouraged to relax and take our time. We even were offered hot tea to take upstairs when we left.
I have eaten at The Wharf on many occasions. It has never disappointed. My friend and I take a yearly shopping trip during the holiday season to the outlets and make this a stop on the way home each year. I live in Trumbull and my husband and I have made the trip to eat there as well. Have ordered all kinds of food and always had a great meal. Although it is not cheap, it is not overly priced either. You are not getting ordinary food here, it is outstanding! We have sat out on the porch even in the coldest weather and they have kept it warm and cozy. Dining room is very nice as well, especially at Christmas.
I really want to like this restaurant but this is the fourth time brunch has been substandard so it was my last attempt. At an earlier brunch the temperature of the water bath beneath the Eggs Benedict was so low the product was barely lukewarm. This time the English muffins literally had to be scraped out of the serving container. Every salad ... farro, pasta, etc. ... was completely dry and therefore tasteless. Attempts to give them a gentle stir with the serving spoon yielded no dressing at all. Even the roasted vegetables were tasteless. I will say that my guests ordered customized omelets which appeared to satisfy them. Other than those omelets the meal was abysmal and the price therefore inexcusable.
My recommendation for Sunday brunch: forego the Sound for the CT River and make a reservation at the Griswold Inn in Essex.
The food is always ok but never spectacular. The staff is wonderful although sometimes there’s a long wait to order or get food. We always want it to be better than it is. There’s no reason it can’t be. Ambiance is good and their live music series is terrific.
Enjoyed lunch with my mom on her birthday. Beautiful hotel and restaurant. Spectacular view of the beach in Madison. Indoor and porch seating available. Ambiance was perfect with fireplace lit and oceanside views. We enjoyed the clam chowder which was delicious. My mom loved her warm lobster roll on brioche with a side salad and I enjoyed the duck confit grilled cheese with french fries. We split the most fabulous chocolate mouse cake for dessert. It’s a must visit spot.
Service was very disconnected. Bread was not offered. Two of the five main entrees were delivered 10 minutes after the first three. Presentation of food was definately not up to the level of this type of restaurant. Food tasted good, but not especially different than a chain restaurant. We have enjoyed meals here in the past. Not sure if this was just a one time problem or an ongoing issue.
Scenic view in summer from their dining deck, is second to none. More importantly, the menu was creative, something for everyone one. I order the tuna tartare on a round bed of avocado..the item came with chips but I substituted a small salad. The meal was perfect in every way. Highly recommend.
You can't beat the Wharf for the view of the sound , and a walk on the beach or on the large rock that juts out in the sound makes it an extra special place to stop for lunch. Our server Brian was excellent . Calamari is always good, we order without the sausage . Fish and chips also a good choice . Fries are crispy . The watermelon salad was good but the dressing was very light. We shared the calamari and the salad. Add in two drinks and the bill is over $80. You just have to factor in the view and location to make it worthwhile.
Food was good, as usual and the scenery beautiful. I made my reservation through open table and requested a table outside at 12:30. We got there early and every single table outside was taken already. I thought it was kind of odd that every outside table had already been reserved prior to 12:3o. I thought since I made the reservation and the request they would save one for me. Got to sit outside anyway in the high bar area, still beautiful scenery, but not a table and not easy to talk to lunch guests with.
Asked for bread. It finally came at the same time lunch was delivered. We didn't even touch it . Also, when I got home I had an email from Open Table asking why I didn't keep my reservation, which I obviously did, so had to go back and forth with Open Table explaining I was there!
Very good lunch with excellent service and super view of Long Island Sound. Hotel and restaurant have been completely redone by Hilton and is immaculate . Super service starts with complimentary valet parking and then excellent service through meal. Reasonably priced for quality of food and drink. Really nice place to have lunch or dinner.
Lacks the charm of the original Madison Beach Hotel - service was friendly, but slow and food was well seasoned but entrees were overcooked. Good appetizers, reasonably priced drinks, not a good place for a large crowd as the bar scene is loud and rowdy. Sit outside and enjoy the view.
We had a very enjoyable evening at the Wharf last Saturday! Our waitress was fantastic and the food was very good. Next time, we will go when the weather is warmer and we can sit on the outside deck overlooking the ocean--without the protective tarp that is now necessarily on the windows.
madison resident for 22 years, so wanting a place in town that is really good. we have been the the wharf many times and recently, went on a Sunday for brunch and then this past Saturday for dinner. The dinner was meh.... we won't go back for dinner. It is a great brunch spot -their sunday spread is very good - a little pricey, but, the food was good. Saturday's dinner: First, the tables that are closest to the bar are very very loud. it was 7:00 on a Saturday night and the bar wasn't "energetic", it was just loud. if you want to avoid that a bit, ask for a table that is further into the restaurant away from the bar or on the porch. The service was good initially, then, as things got busier, it fell off dramatically. Our food was delivered to another table and had to be prepared again...it happens. they did offer to buy us dessert. However, the food was just OK - had seafood casserole/cassoulet, pork chop and sword fish. the Sword was very over cooked and smothered in butter. The casserole was small and very salty. The pork chop was very good. I wouldn't go back for dinner - there are other options nearby - not many, but, wouldn't spend my money here.
