We are always happy with our visits here. We reserve this for special occasions as it is not inexpensive. But we have celebrated birthdays and anniversaries here and they have always made the experience worth it.

Food was overpriced. I ordered the abalone dinner. The abalone was brought in from Mexico. I was surprised, since Monterey has an abalone farm, which is strictly fresh! I found the abalone from Mexico, to be tasteless, very disappointing. Besides that, it was extremely overpriced, at $85! I’ve recently bought it at other restaurants in the area, for $50-$60! My husband ordered the prime rib dinner and enjoyed it very much. Being that it was our anniversary, we brought our own wine. Corkage was high-$25! We were left to pour own. They did give us a complimentary cannoli, which we shared and enjoyed.

My husband and I are from WV. He has been working in CA and found this gem. He said it would be worth it to fly me out there for the weekend just to eat here. He took me and I understand why he loves this place. It was the best steak I have ever had. We had the prime rib egg rolls, petite filet and cheesecake.

My friend and I were looking to go to dinner somewhere outside of our home town. This place was a gem to find! They had same day reservations (which is wonderful, because we were quite indecisive when it came time to pick a place), and we were seated fairly quickly. The gentleman who greeted us was very friendly and the service was absolutely amazing!

We were not locals so our options were limited, Our reservation was for 6:30, we arrived at 6:00, we we’re interested in having prime rib, how ever we were told it would be an hour wait. This surprised us since the restaurant was not full, We asked our server about their French dip. We where told it was only available at the bar. OK, we ordered other items. Another group that came in after us, when their food was delivered, all had French Dip’s! As we were paying out bill, we asked our server. Apparently they where local customers and they could order from a different menu that non-locals could not. Considering our bill was around $260, this upset us. We asked to talk to the manager. He come over and offered to make it up to us the next time we came in. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed...

This is a classic steakhouse with absolutely wonderful steak and seafood. We shared a filet mignon, a lobster tail, a twice-baked potato after stating with carpaccio. Everything was prepared perfectly.

Enjoyed my steak very much. Unfortunately, my husbands beef Wellington was undercooked and he had to eat after I was finished eating. They took off our corkage fee and gave us a free dessert. I would go back! Very good service.

We had a great experience, very knowledgeable about the best steaks and seafood and not to mention excellent at wine pairing. The manager and staff are can-do people that work to make your experience the very best. I am a local but do not frequent the restaurant but that will change!

Everyone enjoyed the food and friendly servers. Upon leaving, the host greeted us outside
with a smile and handshake. Made us feel really special. We love going there for dinner and

The Whaling Station is known for their beef and it does not dissappoint. We have celebrated here a couple of times and have left very happy. Our waiter was wonderful. One of our group ordered the prime rib and our waiter suggested anything but the prime rib because it was a bit more done than usual. We were impressed by his honesty. The only thing that was a bit bothersome is that they bring the tray to showcase the cuts of beef as soon as you sit down. In our opinion they should wait until after drinks are ordered.

I was so disappointed in the Whaling Station. The rib eye was tough which is unusual for this type of cut. The twice baked potato looked like it was a week old and was served cold. The only thing that was worth it was the salad.

Food was delicious, and service was good. However, it was absolutely ridiculous that the establishment does not allow for seperate checks. We had a large party in town for a conference, and calculating the bill was a nightmare. This is an archaic policy.

They sat us in the very back of the restaurant by the kitchen so we couldn’t see anything. They kept bragging about the steak and the Cowboy Ribeye was good but not life changing. Service was mediocre.

The parking was easy. The ambiance was nice. The service was excellent and so was the food. Over the years, this is what we have come to expect from this restaurant .
It is a little pricy, but compared to a lot of other restaurants in this area, what you receive is well worth what you pay.

Warm, friendly greeting on arrival . Knowledgable and friendly waiter ....not too obtrusive . Good range of dishes on the menu . I had Fillet Mignon and it was probably the best tasting and tenderest steak I have had in all my travels .

Calamari appetizer was heavily breaded, the cocktail and tartar sauce that accompanied it was very bland.
Lobster fettuccine was ok. I had the special of wild caught abalone. What a disappointment. Two slices of abalone over 1/4 inch thick so heavily seasoned and breaded that you could not taste any abalone. It was tenderize almost to the point of being mushy. I am somewhat suspicious that it was not really abalone but maybe manta wing. I mentioned this to the manager Freddie. He said to make sure to let him know when we come back that he “ will take care of us”. Interesting though he did not assure me that what I had was really abalone.

We used to come here years ago when we lived in Northern California and always loved it. It didn’t disappoint. Same great food and amazing service. Nothing seemed to change which we loved.

Fabulous steak house! They only have a limited amount of cuts of meat, but all prime and beautifully cooked. No choice on the side dishes, but we were very happy. Service was impeccable - we loved the hand-tossed Caesar salad. Pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for.

We've been to this establishment several times over the past 30+ years, so we've seen significant changes to the menu and decor. Our visit was for a special occasion and we were treated very well, although the noise level was a little over the top. Today's menu is upscale steakhouse with some fresh fish thrown in. Everything is well prepared and the presentation was very well done. The wine list is wide ranging with a few gems thrown in at a reasonable price, you just have to know what to look for. We'll come back again when we're in Monterey.

The steak is the main reason to come here. Out of this world. The pasta dishes are ok but not quite as good.

Firstly, all of the employees couldn't have been nicer. Service was great. Biggest problem is given the high cost of dining there, the restaurant is not in the same class as Ruth Chriss, Spencer's or Mortons or many other top of the line premier steak houses. Tables are way to close to each other. There is very little ambiance and it is extremely noisy making conversation difficult.
