It was our 26th Anniversary and a special celebration. The Whaling Station never lets you down, always a first class experience and well worth the indulgence.

Food was delicious, and service was good. However, it was absolutely ridiculous that the establishment does not allow for seperate checks. We had a large party in town for a conference, and calculating the bill was a nightmare. This is an archaic policy.

They sat us in the very back of the restaurant by the kitchen so we couldn’t see anything. They kept bragging about the steak and the Cowboy Ribeye was good but not life changing. Service was mediocre.

The parking was easy. The ambiance was nice. The service was excellent and so was the food. Over the years, this is what we have come to expect from this restaurant .
It is a little pricy, but compared to a lot of other restaurants in this area, what you receive is well worth what you pay.

Exceptional Place. Jum, our waiter, was highly knowledgeable and always instantly there. To have this happen during Valentine's day with all the busy-ness was truly amazing!

Warm, friendly greeting on arrival . Knowledgable and friendly waiter ....not too obtrusive . Good range of dishes on the menu . I had Fillet Mignon and it was probably the best tasting and tenderest steak I have had in all my travels .

Calamari appetizer was heavily breaded, the cocktail and tartar sauce that accompanied it was very bland.
Lobster fettuccine was ok. I had the special of wild caught abalone. What a disappointment. Two slices of abalone over 1/4 inch thick so heavily seasoned and breaded that you could not taste any abalone. It was tenderize almost to the point of being mushy. I am somewhat suspicious that it was not really abalone but maybe manta wing. I mentioned this to the manager Freddie. He said to make sure to let him know when we come back that he “ will take care of us”. Interesting though he did not assure me that what I had was really abalone.

We used to come here years ago when we lived in Northern California and always loved it. It didn’t disappoint. Same great food and amazing service. Nothing seemed to change which we loved.

Fabulous steak house! They only have a limited amount of cuts of meat, but all prime and beautifully cooked. No choice on the side dishes, but we were very happy. Service was impeccable - we loved the hand-tossed Caesar salad. Pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for.

We've been to this establishment several times over the past 30+ years, so we've seen significant changes to the menu and decor. Our visit was for a special occasion and we were treated very well, although the noise level was a little over the top. Today's menu is upscale steakhouse with some fresh fish thrown in. Everything is well prepared and the presentation was very well done. The wine list is wide ranging with a few gems thrown in at a reasonable price, you just have to know what to look for. We'll come back again when we're in Monterey.

The steak is the main reason to come here. Out of this world. The pasta dishes are ok but not quite as good.
Our server was wonderful. She provided excellent service!!

Firstly, all of the employees couldn't have been nicer. Service was great. Biggest problem is given the high cost of dining there, the restaurant is not in the same class as Ruth Chriss, Spencer's or Mortons or many other top of the line premier steak houses. Tables are way to close to each other. There is very little ambiance and it is extremely noisy making conversation difficult.

Hands down very best service.. from the hostess when we walked in, the manager saying happy birthday with out even being told, to the server (Brandon) was fabulous. The meats there are just so delicious.
Thank you for a wonderful first time experience we will be back for sure.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner on Saturday evening here. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the dessert (we shared the pavlova) was fabulous! All of the waitstaff were very engaged and friendly.

Went with a friend on recommendation from a local. Old style steakhouse with classic decor. There was a communication problem with my order. Prices are high, but reasonable since you get full meal without ordering side dishes. Service good except the original mixup.

This is my favorite restaurant on the West Coast. Possibly my favorite steakhouse in the world. Worth every penny of the cost and every mile I drive to get to it. Get the egg rolls or you’re not living your best life.

They do know their meat- all beef we had was amazing. It's just it felt like they forgot everything else on the menu. Everything but the meat was below-average, which was a bummer.

Yorkshire pudding...that's not Yorkshire pudding. It was an over-cooked popover. Spinach as a side to the beef was ugh....so incredibly bland. Onion rings, no flavor, and mashed potato also no taste.

Beef was excellent, though.

We had a nice time. The food was good. The fillet was outstanding. The service was fantastic. My wife and I wanted to split the dinner and they put it in 2 plates for us which I thought was very nice. It was pretty expensive though.

Great food, especially the Steaks and Prime Rib. Good service, but noisy due to tile floor. Once the restaurant filled up, it was hard to carry on conversations at our table.

Great steak and service! Would love to see some evening entertainment. Maybe a two ot three piece band singing well-known favorites. We'd have stayed for a few more drinks if there was music. Instead, we went next door.
