The Whaling Station Steakhouse
A private, 50-seat banquet room is also available.
The manager was great and very welcoming. The bartender was very accommodating and made amazing drinks. Our server was very attentive and gave us great service.
Best restaurant in Monterey hands down.
The Cow Boy steak is a must try!!
great steaks and the best ceasar salad. Looking forward to returning
Went there last Thursday night for my daughters birthday. A great experience.
Oysters were great, the squash soup delicious, the stakes...oh, the stakes absolutely fantastic. Only the lobster was a bit less in quality. The Irish cream coffee was a great ending.
Turbo provided great service and so did the manager. On sight parking is very helpful.
This is one of my favorite special occasion destinations in Monterey. The food has a premium price on it because, well, it is a premium meal. I have not had a dinner here that was short of exceptional. No place I would rather go for a streak in Monterey.
A favorite place of ours for their bar menu. Table menu expensive but food well done. Their cioppino isn't what it used to be before they changed to being a steakhouse. Service excellent.
Highly recommend the whaling station. You cannot go wrong dining here
Best restaurant on the Monterey Peninsula!!!
Freddie runs this place like a fine tuned race car.
The Chef cooks the best steaks in town!
And the service from all the gals and guys is phenomenal!
Give it a try you will not be disappointed!
The food was disappointing.
We ordered the surf and turf and the lobster was absolutely horrible. It was as tough as leather and dry.
We also ordered Prime Rib end cut that lacked in crust and although it was medium rare it was dry.
We made reservations fairly far in advance and was so excited to be going here.
It was such a bummer.
The waiter was friendly and polite but was inattentive.
Atmosphere was nice.
Would not go again based on price and experience.
We were very disappointed in our experience at The Whaling Station. The wine menu looked like the middle row of the local grocery store, but double the price for the CA wines. We had Filet Mignon dinners which were quite expensive at $66.00 per dinner. The meat was great but it was served with instant mashed potatoes and spinach which didn't have fresh garlic in it. Honestly the sides were awful! The half of the restaurant which contains the bar looks like a Chili's restaurant and the other half was a bit better but not a glamorous place. I've lived in this area all of my life and thought that this was so much more than the tourist rip off it is today. I'll never go bace or recommend it to anyone.
The Whaling Station is always a good choice, and now it has become a Thanksgiving tradition for us!
The Whaling Station provided the perfect experience for me as a lone diner. The entire staff was extremely kind and accommodating, the food came out with excellent timing and every dish was delicious. I enjoyed the prosciutto wrapped scallops to start, a wedge salad, the 10 ounce lobster tail dinner, and took the creme brûlée home with me.
Great food in a lovely space with incredible service! Will definitely dine here again!
Food was delicious and the service was wonderful. Staff was very attentive.
Best steak i have ever had! Cocktails were also great, the strawberry basil martini is a must try. I ordered the petite filet mignon and my partner had the NY and both of our steaks were cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. Our server was very knowledgeable and made our experience great! Would highly recommend the whaling station
Excellent service, a bit pricey but worth it
Favorite restaurant in Monterey! Caesar salad prepared table side from scratch and sand dabs. Friendly fun service. What could be better??
My entree was delicious (I had the pork chop). But they could use a couple more entrees. The selection was rather limited. But it's a beautiful restaurant and we will definitely return.
Please check you review. Our Whaling Station Steakhouse does not serve a pork chop. Perhaps your review was meant to be with another restaurant. Thank you.
Another great Anniversary dinner at the Whaling Station. Our waiter was fantastic. The steaks melted in your mouth and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the Whaling station for any occasion.
We went early on a Saturday night. It gets busy quick. Service was great. Everyone is very attentive. Table side Caesar was amazing, bread was delicious and the prime rib rolls were great. I got the rib eye with the twice baked potato and my husband got the prime rib. He loved it, mine was ok. We skipped dessert but they looked wonderful. I would dine here again when I’m in the area.
Our waiter Carl was Great!
Valet parking so helpful as we had a guest in a wheelchair.
My son asked for a green peppercorn sauce and they made it fresh for him.
Our second time visiting. Will definitely eat there again.
The bar is a happening place.
We were mostly impressed with the busing staff. The ambiance is exactly like I would want a Steak House to feel like. Our steaks were what we were hoping they would be and more.
We had the cowboy ribeye and the beef wellington and the quality of the beef in both was very poor. I was very disappointed.
The food was mediocre at best. The salad was oily, the meat was of poor quality (extremely fatty). The noise level was through the roof. The wait staff seem to be shorthanded. We did not feel the quality of the food, the service and environment was worth the $200 price tag.
Was on a date with my amazing wife, Arrived on time to our reservation (which we didn't need - plenty of seats) and we were greeted and welcomed with a smile. they seated us at a good table, served delicions bread which we ate too much of ( as usual), food was served timely and was good. We shared the prime rib with lobster tail and had cocktails (they were good too). Steak was good but wife says could have been slightly more tender - i wanted the Filet mignon: should have gone with that. See babe. ilu anyway..MUAH enjoy y'all.... go experience it for yourself.
The Whaling Station was a great restaurant for a special occasion dinner. We went on a Monday which was great to get a table, but almost so empty it felt weird. Overall excellent evening!
Fantastic dining experience. Our waiter, Antonio, was spot on. Steaks cooked to perfection. Deserts were just amazing.
Corkage fee of $35 was a bit steep. Wish it was listed on the menu. But other than that, everything was perfect.
Service was great. All very friendly but towards the end it felt like they were rushing us to go. I was disappointed to be served spinach instead of the carrots and veggies stated on the menu. Food was good overall but definitely not the best.
I ordered the bone-in ribeye medium rare, it was served medium well. The Server offered to replace it, but I didn’t want to waste it so I kept it.
Service was excellent as always. Food was not well prepared this time.
You'll pay the Best price for the Best food and enjoy the ambience of a fine restaurant. From the front desk to the seating area, a clean, well maintained dinning experience. I took my family for dinner and chose this Steakhouse for the Best cuts of meat. We started off with cocktails e.g. Cosmo, Ketel One, and my favorite Crown Royal on the rocks. All were well rated by my family. How about an appetizer of a 4 count of Oysters Rockefeller, and a good cup of clam chowder. Nothing there went to waste for sure. Katie, our server was right on time with everything that we ordered. Katie had Great recommendations about drink and food. She even brought out a platter of steaks so that we could compare the possibilities of the mouthwatering meats. Really good presentation, Katie. Our choices were 2 Petite Filets, 1 Top Sirloin and a Rib Eye. Each one came out as perfection. We paired this incredible meal with a Fine bottle of 555 Justin Cabernet Sauvignon. We were not surprised at the melt in your mouth tenderness but the wonderful taste of the charcoal flavor of the crust of the meat itself. There was Spinach and Brocolli among a sweet bed of mashed potatoes. The drippings from the steak made a wonderful combination with the vegetables and mashed potatoes. With the help of Katies' suggestions we ordered dessert, a wonderful New York Cheesecake and dessert to die for in a Pavlova (Incredible). At the door was the manager to ask if we had a good time and to Thank us for coming. The price of this meal is insignificant compared to the pleasure of the palates in which everyone agreed. I will tell friends and other family members of this experience in hopes that they can enjoy it as much as we did as a family. .
We tried this place for the first time and loved it!! Very popular with the locals. We received nods of approval with all who we mentioned it to. I had the filet and my husband had the rib eye soooo good. Then our server brought us a dessert that was to die for! It was a New Zeland delight and looked like a cloud of light sweetness with kiwi and mango on top. Very delish!
Incredible service and food. We just had appetizers for dinner because they all sounded great. The prime rib egg rolls were off the charts and the ravioli was a labor of love. Topped off with the best pavola ever. And...a hug from the owner good bye.
Server confusion caused delay in getting getting drinks for some time. Prime rib was excellent. Wine selection and value good.
Like always, everything was amazing.
I love this place and try and get here every time i am in monterey, first of all it has parking lol, but beyond that the food is amazing, the staff is attentive and friendly management has been the same friendly guy since i have been coming here at least 5 years. Its a little pricey but well worth the money. 65 dollars or so for the large filet mignon and that does include some excellent sides (spinach and mash potatoes)
This place is perfect! It was our 14th Anniversary and we wanted to enjoy a nice atmosphere with good food. Well we hit it right on the spot at the Whaling Station. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We had the calamari and artichoke for an appetizer. The Cowboy Cut is incredible. Perfectly cooked and taste was on point. They even added a dessert to help us celebrate our Anniversary. Highly recommend this place.
Tina was our server, and she took excellent care of us. She was very knowledgeable about the steak offerings, the specials, and even which wine to pair with our meal. I felt very well cared for and was able to enjoy a semi-relaxing evening without kids screaming.
The restaurant does get loud, especially if you're situated near the bar. So be sure to specify if you want quiet when you make your reservations so that they can seat you in a quiet nook.
One of the best steaks I’ve had in a restaurant before. Staff was exceptional. Wine selection was great and cocktails were over the top. Definitely recommend it. Although, it’s very noisy.
Dinner was delicious. Service was superb. I highly recommend this restaurant.
