The Whaling Station Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Clam chowder was just ok—-but the Porterhouse steak was out of this world. Take the waiters recommendation on how it is cooked—you won’t be disappointed. We shared it and had leftovers—plus our dog was thrilled with the bone. Potatoes and spinach sides were tasty. The Pavlova would have been perfect if the sour/bitter sauce had been left off. We will be back.
My husband and I had a wonderful dining experience at The Whaling Station. Our server was excellent! Food was excellent! My husband had the 14 oz New York Strip. He opted for a twice baked potato that he said was average. I had the sand dabs and they were excellent as were the garlic mashed potatoes. Both of our meals were served with cooked spinach...we wish we had asked for a different vegetable as neither of us our fans of cooked spinach. And, for dessert, we ordered Pavlova. I was absolutely too full to enjoy more than a bite, but my husband ate the whole thing! He loved it! This is obviously the dessert of choice because virtually every table ordered it. Also, our server corked our bottle of wine and wrapped it for us so we could enjoy it at home.
The decor is very nice. The ambiance was a little loud for our taste.
Overall, so happy that we finally tried The Whaling Station and look forward to going back!
We arrived 50 minutes early for our reservation. The gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and sat us in 5 minutes. Our waiter, Carl, was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was very attentive. We each had the prime rib dinner and caesar salad mixed at the table. The prime rib was cooked very much to our liking . We were celebrating our anniversary and they acknowledged it with a cannoli desert. This was our second time at The Whaling Station and we will definitely return again.
Our meal was very good, but the odor of "Mr Clean" or some other cleaner was strong and powerful and made for an uncomfortable evening. We considered leaving, but it was late and we stayed. Our food was very good as was the service, but the ammonia smell needs to be addressed.
We made a reservation for a Friday evening. The food and service was so good we went back our second night in Monterey. From the moment you walk in the door you feel welcome. The ambiance is great. Service is remarkable, and the food was just simply amazing. Highly recommended by this Chef!
The food was excellent. However it took an hour and a half to get our food due to "a computer error." We watched people who came in after us get their food before us. We wanted a second glass of wine but weren't asked. Again, the food was great and I'm sure we would go again.
The service was first class, we felt welcome and well taken care of. The staff was professional and courteous. Our meals were fantastic, well prepared, and delivered with care. The only interesting part of the evening that didn't seem to fit in was the casual dress of the patrons. I'm not sure why you wouldn't get a little dressed up, like wear shoes and not flip flops for such a great experience.
First time diner for this restaurant. Definitely would come back again when in Monterey. I had the seafood cioppino and my wife had the prime rib. Both meals were cooked to perfection with generous portions. The service was outstanding and added to the overall experience.
