The Westside Local Ratings and Reviews
Great restaurant! We are on the Whole 30 diet and they actually had food we could eat! Though we did chose to cheat just a little bit because the food was so amazing! The ambiance was also perfect, not too loud, but as cozy and intimate as it is casual or dressy. We went for a birthday and really enjoyed it!
Just went for brunch for my first time ever and -WHAT TOOK ME SO LONG?! I had the chicken and waffles (and a side of bacon because I'm a human being) and I'm always skeptical about getting it in certain places but this was decadent and savory and I finished every last bite on my plate. The portion size was perfect. I will be going back.
We were so surprised at Westside Local, the ambiance and vibe were great, very casual atmosphere. The food was awesome and unexpected. The cocktail list was fun and creative. I would definitely recommended trying this place out you will be happy and we will absolutely be coming back next time we are in Kansas City.
The Westside Local is such a great place to meet for a business lunch. The food was great fuel on a cold day. Megan did a super job with menu questions, serving and clearing and keeping the beverages full.
The menu features such great items as the bison meatballs or the summit burger for the carnivores but also has gluten free options and very creative salads.
This was a business lunch but the cocktail list is fantastic as well featuring a whole page of Tom Hanks movies themed cocktails that are creatively named and served. Can't wait to have a Forrest Gump. You won't go wrong by taking a client or a loved one to Westside Local.
First visit to Westside Local and it didn't disappoint. Great spot for a first date - cool vibe and quiet enough to talk and enjoy each other's company. Food was good for both of us. My burger was more MW than medium, but still OK. And, I'd probably get cheese on it next time - a bit dry without.
Went on NYE. Was called 2x indicating the kitchen was closing at 9. Was told at the table 4+ times the kitchen was closing at 9...was not inviting and borderline rude. Usually the food is awesome, but it was subpar on NYE.
We moved from KC and the North Westside neighborhood two years ago. And miss it terribly. Westside Local was my favorite eating and hanging spot. I had to return to my hangout and have all my favorite foods when visiting over the holiday. Yum. Still just as amazing as when we moved.
The food was excellent - all 5 of us liked what we ordered. We had burgers, grilled cheese, veggie burger, mac n cheese - all were delicious. Now I am on the hunt for a tomato/fennel soup recipe that tastes like the one I had. Great atmosphere, too. Small but does not feel crowded. Will come back again.
Went with family after event at the Music Hall. Artsy decor, reclaimed old building. Fun mature atmosphere. Menu had many items that sounded good and different so we all had hard time choosing. Apps: pint of fries was very good even if you don’t normally like fries, and green dirt crostini trio sounded good but was just ok, wouldn’t get it again but there are many others to choose from. Dinner: summit burger very good, west side Mac and cheese very good, chicken saltimbocca very good, and I had the seasonal quinoa which was just ok. My wife tried it though and she thought it was very good so I maybe trust her more than me. All portions were moderate to large and we had no room for dessert so I cannot tell you if those are good or not.
Family, and I, liked the place and plan to return again for dinner. I recommend making reservations as it is popular place. Also parking is on the street or in a small lot across from the restaurant. They have outside seating as well that was covered and had space heaters, looked nice but we were seated inside.
Chosen for Saturday lunch with the wife.
Deviled eggs weren't anything we couldn't make at home with minimal effort.
Crostini Trio was very good with a nice combination of flavors. One of them had prosciutto that was a little thick and quite chewy. Prefer thinner and melty...
Jalapeno and Jam Burger was above average and cooked right (medium) but honestly it was just another burger. I almost hate to say it like that because it wasn't "bad" but the description sure makes you think you're getting a doozy of a combination.
The Hatfield Dunkel Brisket sandwich was good, moist, flavorful and all at the same time a little pedestrian. It needs a little seasoning or more bite somewhere in it. The pretzel bun is good but overwhelms the brisket flavor in my opinion.
Service was pretty good and unobtrusive, which I appreciate. Never had an empty drink without a replacement already on the table. Our waitress was training and we couldn't hear her very well because of the crowd noise but overall good marks.
Bottom line: I think we expected to really be "wow'd" and in the end it was just an expensive lunch. Menu had good variety and love the farm to table approach. It seems like when we spend $60 on a 2 sandwich + appetizers lunch we should've walked away with complete satisfaction, but we both said it was "good but not great".
Great great food!! Fresh art. Had to flag down other servers so get attention from our server (who’s mental acuity left much to be desired). All the servers dressed like they either just came from a dungeon or from little house on the prairie. Other than the service- wonderful food, cozy spot!
No matter how early reservations are made, we always get tables right by the entrance. This past visit was the worst. We had a table where cold draft hits every time the door gets open (which was quite often). We had to beg a staff to close the curtains but it didn’t help much. Our waitress went missing after bringing our food, never came back to ask for the 2nd drink. (We had to catch her to ask for the check long after we were done eating). My husband ordered Mac&cheese with brisket and Brussel sprouts, but we found no sprouts in his dish. I love this place, but based on the service we received, I feel very discouraged to return anytime soon.
This is one of my favorite spots in KC. I had the tenderloin, medium rare. Cooked to perfection. One of my favorite sandwiches is the Veggie Burger (I order this even though I love meat!). There Grilled Cheese with Tomato Lentil Soup is stellar. And their Brunch is top notch!
We had a great night with friends who had not been here before. Most of our group had a burger variation and enjoyed them immensely. I had the seasonal quinoa with salmon and a kale salad, all wonderful. I also enjoyed the red wine blend!
So good and one of my favorites!
We discovered this neighborhood gem about a year ago. While we don't live close by, it has been a "go-to" whenever we have something going on downtown. It's perfect for dinner when friends are staying downtown, you have a work dinner that you don't want to "feel like a work dinner," or you have something special going on at the Kauffman. The food is always wonderful and the staff is warm and friendly, just like the atmosphere. From the exposed brick to the reclaimed wood tables and bar, this place makes you feel like you're "with friends."
