The Well - Bar, Grill & Rooftop Ratings and Reviews
Open on Thanksgiving and WHAT A FIND!!! We were meeting family to eat and then head to The Plaza Lighting Ceremony . . . AWESOME!!! So fun and THE FOOD!!! We had Bruschetta and Spinach Artichoke app - YUMMY! Main dishes were so good we all had to share bites!!! Thai Chicken wrap was the surprise winner 100% across the board - girls and guys!! The Reuben was amazing! Burgers disgustingly good! And I had the Baja Fish Tacos!!! Portions were great - overall FANTASTIC value!!!
waited 30 min for waitress, hostess seemed upset with our party of 8, like not expecting us. Requested standard table, seated at high top. Had party of 10, said 8 the max, then saw a bachelorette party of 15????, 2 hrs to dine, late for Brew at the Zoo, birthday dinner, was never acknowledged, put us close to the bar, people standing at bar loud, rude, bumping us. Noise level was NOT energetic, it was obnoxious. Third an last time to dine at The Well.
We had out-of-town guests and needed a place where we wouldn't have too long a wait for dinner as we all needed to be elsewhere later that evening. Oddly, the hostess couldn't seem to locate our reservation though I had received confirmation from Open Table. They were able to quickly clear a booth for our party though it was cramped for a party of five.
The food at the Well is your typical bar fare. The selection is varied so one can find something to please their palate. I had the fried fish tacos and enjoyed them. It is a neighborhood gem.
Overall, my group of 8 enjoyed the food for Sunday Brunch. We did think after viewing the website that brunch would be served on the rooftop also. We sat at a round booth inside with 8 people which was a bit inconvenient for a brunch. We all agreed that more choices of food rather than of desserts and pastries would have made it a 10 in our book. Like I said, overall we enjoyed the Well.
We had a lovely visit. The roof is open seating, aka bar service. We sat there, so the service wasn't great and our waitress took quite a while in between visits. She wasn't the only person up there, but she had several tables. We arrived at 6 and hadn't ordered food until 6:30. If you want open air seating and good service, eat downstairs--on a nice day they open the garage door walls. The cocktails were interesting and delicious. Their menu had typical bar food but we didn't order that! The food was all very good.
This was not our first time at The Well. Service is always marginal, but the food tends to make up for it. Lots of tall tables so when reserving you should ask for a regular height table if that is what you want. The noise level is always LOUD in here, doesn't matter if it is packed as it was on Sunday, or not. Conversations can sometimes be a challenge. Went for Sunday Brunch and would suggest that the restaurant add stacks of bowls by the fruit bar and plates by the desserts and waffles - that would save a lot of back-tracking. Passing up food and people just to get a plate and return to what you really want. Will go back again.
The 'Well' provided a full selection of brunch food options, from B & G, to fresh fruit, many mini-deserts, omlet bar, meats & veggies and waffles plus 'build your own bloody marys'.
Getting around the tables, steps and lots of kids to the food was tricky. Service was spotty but friendly.
Lots of good food for the price: nice Sunday brunch option.
I made reservation and put special note that our party will be have two babies will need sling and we got there did not have table ready ( never read our special instructions( for our party right away we have to wait for 15 minutes to get a booth table. Service and food was good.
We made reservations for the Mother's Day Buffet. The food was good. I was excited about the bloody mary bar, but it was more expensive than it should have been for what they had to offer. We were also seated in an extra room in the back which was inconvenient when dinning with a toddler. I expect better seating when I have a reservation.
Besides the wait for our table, everything was delicious as usual. Really enjoyed the seafood & carving stations added on for Mother's Day Brunch, as well as the flowers given to the Mother's after brunch, really a nice touch! Also the bottomless mimosas were mixed to perfection! I will be returning in the near future!!
We made our reservation for a bachelorette party dinner. When we arrived they informed us that they did not have a table for us and it would be awhile. We waited about 20 minutes and the host told us we could go to the patio he had a table, as we were walking to the patio door a waitress stepped in front of us and proceeded to yell at us that we could not go out there it was reserved, I explained that we were told to come out here by the host and she said the sign says it is reserved so we needed to wait until the sign was down! By far the rudest waitress I have ever came across! So we went back to the front to wait and a while later the host told us he had a table on the same patio for us, he walked us out and we sat down, where the manager proceeded to come out and tell us we could not sit there he had a party reservation, I told him we also have a reservation and we would go back inside if he had a table for us to go to. He found us a table, went inside and the waiter did not come over for about 10 more minutes... in that time the host brought menus and we looked them over and the menu on the website is not accurate, they do not have steak or chicken all bar food. We decided to call our ride and leave.
We were there for over 50 minutes and never did get to order anything. I would not recommend this restaurant, was very disappointed with the whole experience. Wait staff was rude and service was terrible. They should not take reservations if they do not really acknowledge them in the first place.
Service inside the restaurant was significantly better than on the rooftop patio. Our intent was to enjoy our meal outside, however we did not receive service for 20 minutes. Our non-existence server did not acknowledge us once. Inside we received excellent service and great food!
Our service was horrible! Our server was non-existent, and we had to keep asking other employees to help. For example, I saw her when we were first seated and asked for four waters and menus. 20 minutes later, she had not come back, so we flagged down another server. The tables surrounding us also were experiencing the same issue. They were kind enough to give us their menus, and told us that they had to go to the bar to get drinks and menus.
When the hostess acknowledges you with a grunt, you should probably be able to guess the overall experience isn't going to be that great. And it wasn't. The service was slow...and it was not that busy. When our food was delivered, one of our kid's meals was missing. My husband had to get up and track down the server. My daughter (who is a slow eater) had finished her meal before our son's meal arrived. To her credit, we were. It charged for the late meal. I made an effort to observe all the wait staff...not a single smile, not a look of acknowledgement. When we left, the hostess was leaning on the host stand and didn't even acknowledge or thank us for dining. Don't go to this Well....it's all dried up.
Been to the Well several times, enjoyed each visit; however, the service was not great this time. Our server was absent a lot, talking to her co-workers in clear sight after we asked for silverware, napkins and refills. Thinking we were not supposed to be charged for our Dad's coffee refill? - but didn't want to wait any longer to ask. Food took quite a while to get out and presentation was not as spot on as it usually is; but is was a nice, busy Saturday afternoon, so I am sure the kitchen was slammed. We will be back, we like the place, just not its' best showing last Saturday.
We went during KC Restaurant Week, based on the menu selections and price, we figured it was a good deal. All 4 of us were very impressed with the entire meal, from apps to dessert, it was all very good. Good value for the amount of food we received, even had enough for lunch the next day. Food was hot when served, presentation was impressive and flavors were great. Would definitely be back, especially for the Sunday Brunch!
Atmosphere was good. Waitresses had nice welcoming personalities. The bartender woman on 12/31/16 had a bad attitude she should work on hiding that foul language. The hostess ladies where excellent and friendly. I had rooftop RSVP for 4 they honored that with no issues. The music was awesome really set the tone of the night. I will definitely be rsvp The Well for my next event. Food was delicious and classy! Bathrooms were clean.
We were pleased that The Well was open on Christmas Day. We went in for an early dinner. I thought there would be a few specials as they usually have, but only 1 was mentioned by our waitress. It really wasn't necessary to make a reservation, but we did. We were seated in the upper dining area close to the patio area. Be careful of the overly bright spotlights if you have sensitive eyes. We moved our table twice to avoid drafty vents and the spotlights.
The food was disappointingly average for dinner. We have eaten at The Well at least 8 times in the past, but nothing was special this time. We will still patronize The Well and hopefully their food will become above average again.
