Oddly empty at 8 pm...maybe that's a late reservation in Cannon Beach? Wedge salad surprisingly good, crab cakes only okay. Lots of nice tasting crab meat but texturally a bit mushy. Served naked on the plate without so much as a leaf of garnish; a bit disappointing for $22.
Food was just ok for both my wife and I. Salad didn't need a blob of cheese in it, didn't look appealing. Crab cakes were good but again the look of them was off (white) so that didn't make it as appealing either. Cobbler came out cold which was weird. Just needed some extra love coming out of the kitchen but other than that everything else was great.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and your restaurant was recommended
by the desk person at the Land's End At Cannon Beach. We had a excellent table looking at
the ocean and Haystack Rock. We both had your halibut dinner, and it was very good. The
service people were very friendly and helpful. We just want to say Thank you to all.
We have been coming to the wayfarer for about 30 years now. We've seen lots of changes and some of the latest ones are good. The food is fresh and well presented. The chicken the first night was over salted but the halibut the second night was very good. Well cooked and perfect portion.
The menu is limited,one sheet, and we miss the goat cheese with pepper and the calamari appetizers as well as the prawns and halibut steverino. Hopefully the chef and owner will consider bringing back some of the old favorites.
Looking forward to our visit in November.
We selected this restaurant based on reviews , location and a recommendation from our hotel. The location was amazing- great sunset with view of Haystack Rock.
Our meals were well prepared. Our waitress was very personable and did a great job answering questions about the menu.
Frankly, we thought that the menu was very limited. Although we really liked our waitress , the wait time to get drinks and between courses was very slow . Given the cost of the meal and the limited menu, I would not recommend this restaurant.
It was a nice restaurant, disappointed that I reserved for a birthday and didn't get a window seat like I requested. Would of changed my reservation request time if I would of known. Food quality wasn't up to pricing though. Ambiance was nice, very good service.
This was for a special occasion, our anniversary. I know restaurants cannot guarantee a window table to all who request one, but I thought this restaurant handled my request particularly badly. I made the reservation several weeks ago, and noted that it was our anniversary and that we would love a window table. We have gone to the Wayfarer for years. We have shown up without reservations, requested window tables, and were told they were for people who had requested them and had reservations. I thought this time maybe we would get lucky. We did not and that's okay, however, I was disappointed by the way the hostess handled it. I pointed out that there were two window tables available and she said they were reserved for someone else who requested them earlier. I asked very respectfully how this was possible given that I'd requested one weeks ago and she said the party checked in before us and asked for it. Not sure how this works, why the table sat empty as we were ushered elsewhere, when a party checked in before us and were seated after us. She was rude about it too, and that is never OK. Our experience was saved by an awesome waiter, great food, and a beautiful sunset we could see from our table, but the hostesses' rudeness obviously stuck with me and tainted the evening.
We celebrated our 50th Wedding anniversary at Wayfarer Restaurant. The food was delicious.
I ordered a piece of halibut that was perfection. My husband had a lamb shank that was prepared very well, falling off the bone in a lovely sauce. There was a fresh crab cocktail and a fresh green salad and a nectarine and elderberry cobbler with ice cream. A bit on the negative was the high volume of voices and yes, it was a Saturday night. We will return. It was a very good meal.
While I expect to pay more for a quality dining experience, these prices felt a bit "greedy". Although this was my first visit to Cannon Beach, I did not get the impression that this destination was "exclusive" or even geared towards the affluent. Conversely, I felt thoroughly at home everywhere I went. The ambiance of the Wayfarer feels casual and comfortable, as well. So I suppose I was unprepared to be hit with the $$$$ price tags. But, having said that, the meal and service were great.
We used to dine at wayfarer for years- good food, good prices. Not sure if new owners yet limited entrees, more gourmet, prices very expensive for what you get. My crab cocktail was good, yet not worth $24!!! My husband’s halibut was $39 and was ok, not special. Best was the crafted martini, exactly per my husbands instructions. Yet not worth going back ...
A beautiful view and delicious meal awaited us at The Wayfarer. We had the halibut and salmon which were wonderfully prepared and tasted just out of the ocean. The heirloom tomato appetizer was superb as was the chocolate haystack dessert. Service was excellent.
Food was excellent but our server offered us hot bread twice and never brought it. We had to walk up to a manager and ask him to send the server by our table as each time she passed us she never looked our direction in over 20 minutes. Chalking it up to one bad server as the place and the food were excellent and we would go there again!
The restaurant can't really be blamed for this, but we were surrounded by three tables with crying children at them. Why the parents would allow this is beyond us. Other than that, we really enjoyed the great crab appetizers. The main courses were also excellent. Our server was attentive and friendly.
Your first impression is that this large, commercial restaurant with impressive views of the Haystack Rocks / ocean, would be high volume / average and rushed food. Actually, we found on two separate occasions that the food and service was outstanding. Try the fish n' chips for instance, to our surprise, it was high quality Albacore Tuna, prepared with a light batter and perfectly cooked....not over fried and too breaded with a less quality fish. And the Dungeness crab cocktail - expensive ($24) but actually worth every penny. High quality, generously portioned, fresh lump Dungeness crab with a perfectly spiced horseradish sauce. Both the Fish and Crab were Excellent.
Been here many times. Each time we come for vacation to either Seaside or Cannon Beach, we eat at Wayfarer and can't help but keep going back. Food is amazing and service is impeccable. The staff are knowledgeable about the menu and provides good to know info on ingredients. Very accommodating with menu adjustments for my 3-yr old. Best restaurant in this area!!
I love this restaurant. I ate there for dinner one night and breakfast the next day. The breakfast was fabulously delicious. Dinner was very good, but expensive. I am from the East Coast, and was surprised by how expensive fish from the West Coast, served on the West Coast, is. I always thought it was expensive on the East Coast because of shipping from the West Coast, but it just must be expensive period. At any rate, I enjoyed this restaurant and will go back if I am ever privileged enough to return to Cannon Beach.
This restaurant was recommended by family friends of ours so we were excited to try it. The food was extremely overpriced for what you get, very bland (lots of salt added) and generally not that good. Not many people in the restaurant and service was just average. The view was absolutely amazing, but not worth paying as much as we did for the food we received. I would definitely go somewhere else the next time we're in Cannon Beach.
After perusing several of the local restaurants menus online, I chose to make reservations for our anniversary dinner at the Wayfarer. While there was about a 10-minute wait in order to get a window seat, the view of Haystack Rock was well worth the wait. The salmon was cooked to perfection, locally-sourced and probably the best I've ever had. My husband was just as pleased with his filet mignon and even the roasted vegetables that came alongside. My only complaint is that my salmon did not come with any vegetables but only a tomato risotto. The risotto was good, but not my favorite. I would have liked something fresh to go along with the richness of the salmon. The drinks were also good. My husband's Manhattan was to die for. The service was amazing. Our waiter was excellent and the staff went out of their way to make sure that we had a wonderful anniversary dinner. I would recommend to anyone going to Cannon Beach. Just make sure to make reservations ahead of time.
